I used loctite super glue. Guaranteed not to wobble after extended use (two years without adjustment, but ffs be careful with the super glue!). And I would suggest if you have a screen protector, to modify the bumpers on your 3DS unless you want your new psp 1000 stick to scratch you screen.
i wanted to warn people to NOT use super glue on this (i used Krazy Glue). I wanted to give an example of my old 3ds that i did it to and show how badly i messed it up, but for some reason i totally forgot to do it while filming. i put super glue and it ended up drifting while it was on. when i took the cap off, part of the cstick component came off with it, thus rendering a completely useless cstick that drifted everywhere in the home screen and whatever games that required it. so, moral of the story here, DONT USE SUPER GLUE 😭 if you really feel the need to glue it together, the safest option would be the tiniest bit of hot glue. at least if it messes up, it’s just silicone that you can rip off. here’s the 3ds i’m talking about in these videos. in its prime: ua-cam.com/video/R4F8qqklZc4/v-deo.html when it’s broken: ua-cam.com/video/4kPUkDKeiww/v-deo.html

Also, you need to let the glue sit for it to harden. Don’t use it immediately after application.

An update after another year (August 2023): The glue is still holding fine and I have put 200+ hours in mh4u since I posted this comment. (Among other games obviously). I will reply to this comment again in 2024 where I predict my glue job will still be holding up! (Hopefully I will remember, we will see). PS: Someone had a question about bumpers. There are two plastic nubs on the top of the inside of the 3DS. They are right above the top screen. I glued bits of neoprene (the SCUBA diver stuff) to them to add space and cushion to separate the psp 1000 stick from the top screen’s screen protector.
Using the original circle pad caused my thumb to hurt, and gave me anxiety 😂 it's a terrible design, I agree it never worked the way it should, but this mod makes it way better, I do recommend it, just be sure to get the right screwdriver for the job. I almost messed up using a flat one.
As soon as I get the chance, I'm going to apply this to my 3DS as well because playing Minecraft with that nub kind of starts cramping your hand after a while and it is not an enjoyable experience, and I'm only mentioning this because I have to do a Minecraft for new Nintendo 3DS series on my other channel.

There are pictures for each step of the process. Step 9 of the tear down showcases the optimal way to access these cables when working on the console.

I gotta say that the nub really sucks. Tried it with all the resident evil titles, also with metal gear. I just turned circle pad pro controls off. It's not too bad with RE because it's kinda made to be played without. Can't imagine myself doing this mod, it's just kinds unnecessary in my opinion. Not enough games use it and I don't really play the ones that do.
The thing that should be always mentioned is that the PSP stick won't work the same way as it did on the PSP, or like the circle pad on the other side of the 3DS. It doesn't 'hover' in a circular fashion; it's still acts like a cap that you have to press on a direction while it stays still in the middle point. It DOES NOT moves around like you said on 06:08. In fact, you can clearly see on the video that you aren't moving it around at all.
