These are my favourite type of shunters!
Very good model
Perfect for a shunting layout!
Great to hear that mate - they are lovely! :D
CHeers,
Sam :)
The true sign of Valentine's Day: A Sentinel
haha absolutely ;D
Hey! It's Den from T&F! That model would make a great custom of him! Great work, Sam! Keep the reviews coming ^^
haha yeah people have been saying that! Ooh I wonder if anyone will try that?? :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I got this engine a couple of days ago as a very late Christmas present I love it
Ooh that's fantastic - enjoy it mate! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Ey up Sam, good review, your sentinel is in the ‘crossley evans’ livery (which is a scrap yard in shipley, only a few miles away from me!) so I’ve had to take the plunge and buy one! :)
Just bought one of these. Very happy with my purchase.
Like some users mentioned, the Sentinel diesel is the class used for the basis of Den from Thomas And Friends who first appeared in the 2011 movie Day of the Diesels
Thanks for the comment mate - yes you're right!! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
That's the diesel Den from Thomas is based on.
Is it?! I've not heard of him I don't think!! :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Wildcat 1999 no he's based on a delic I think but I'm sure it's not a sentinel but there is a dealse based on the sentinel
But now that I think it might be him
A train's the deltic is way to big to be den
Yes I knew I just thought it was an auto correct and I thought he ment to spell deisle ten not den but yes that's den irl
Great review! I love how in the beginning you talked about 0-4-0’s and “Pocket Rockets” XD I just bought my first Hornby train in the West Coast Highlander starter set. Can’t wait to get it. Keep making great videos like this! Also I like the new intro music, it’s a nice change from the old classic music.
haha thanks mate - I have lots of good memories of pocket rockets! Glad you enjoyed it anyway mate - I try to put modern music on more modern loco designs :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
The littlest models always have impressive detail.
An amazing little diesel, sam
Thanks a lot mate - yeah for the price these are fantastic! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Nice one.
Love these little things. But yeah...even looking at Den (from Thomas and Friends) the longer hood is the front. The little thing on the grill is the company crest with the pair of lights above it.
Thanks a lot Den - ahh yes you might be right about that - but then again, their Arry and Bert have faces on the back ;D
Thanks for the info,
Sam :)
Do they? O.o
Seems odd, that.
Nice model! And that centre cab type design has also worked well in Europe too.
Thanks Nick - is that so? It definitely looks to be quite a familiar design anyway!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Nice. The Sentinel-Diesel was made by the same company which build the legendary Sentinel-Steam Lorrys. And they made fascinating steam-motor locos also around this time. This locos had the shape of a diesel and a quick-heating boiler also, the last of these where in use in bolivia until few years ago. The diesel from sentinel is also a fine design, Sentinel had built nice equipment.
Thanks a lot Paul - yes indeed - what a multi-faceted company!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
2 big things i noticed with the Sentinel in this video Sam, the front left handrail is broken at the bottom, and the reason the green/yellow striping isn't lining up on the body is because it appears the "cab" section is not fully fitted, it's riding higher than it should. Other than that another great video, with brilliant information about a great loco, keep it up!
Hi Jack - yes you're right about the handrail, I noticed that too while I was editing this - luckily I managed to fix it though!
I think you might be right about the cab too - but I've tried to push it down, and it doesn't shift - so I don't dare put too much force on it!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
The long nose is forward but you do turn around and look out that way when going that direction. Also you can surprising see quite well that way. I drove DH16 on my birthday on the east somerset railway (that's the number of the sentinel).
Ahh very cool - thanks for the tips, and it's great that you got to properly experience one!!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Good video Sam! The burgandy Sentinel shunter that you showed after doing your history of the locomotive is actually the Sentinel I have (obivously mine is in model form) But as always loved watching the video!
Thanks a lot Ollie - and thanks for the info! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice Review and that engine is the 0-4-0 Diesel Sentinel which is Den's basis on Thomas & Friends also happy Valentine's Day.
Thanks very much! hehe yeah - I've been hearing a lot about Den too! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
He looks like Den from Thomas. But this one is blue. Love it.
Ooh does he?! I've not heard of him before - I'll have to look him up!
Cheers,
Sam :)
ttte.wikia.com/wiki/Den
He’s based off the warship class diesel
Garry King 2
He probebly read ten
Sam'sTrains when I see these trains that look like Thomas characters that are not made yet, I really want to make a diy character out of it 😭
While the R2382 0-4-0 Diesel Sentinel is what Den is based off of it appears that the end you have facing toward the train you have yours hauling would be where the face would be located.
Yeah that's right - a few other people spotted that too! :D
Thanks for the comment,
Sam :)
Looks like Den from Thomas.
Edit: Happy Valentine's Day.
haha so I'm told!! :D
Same to you too!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Hi Sam. The striped rods on the sides of the Sentinel are not "connecting rods". Diesels do not have visible connecting rods. They are called "coupling rods" because they couple the wheels together. It is the same on steam locos. Connecting rods on steam locos connect the driving axle to the piston rods via the crosshead. Just a little more information to add to your growing railway vocabulary. A way to smooth the slow running out would be to permanently couple a metal wheeled wagon to the loco. The wagon would need to have pick-ups fitted to ALL wheels and wired directly to the loco wiring. I did this to a model of mine and it has never faltered. Regards, Alan.
Hi Alan, I stand corrected - I did know this, but for some reason I got it wrong here - my apologies!
That's a good idea with the wagon, but it's a touch messy for me - I'm happy to keep her as she is, she's not that bad!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I've just got my sentinel today. It's a Graham one
Good review to review Sam. I bought a Heljan class 05 and it ran wonderfully even it's slow crawl. See Sam the influence you have, slow crawl, value for money hey it's all there. Cheers again
Thanks Guy! I've heard lots about those - would love to try one! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
lovely model, i think these were the engines that replaced the lil pug shunters by the docks as they were cheaper to run, but they did still have steam engines there as high seas or bad weather would meant he engine would not work well but a steam engine would,
Thanks a lot mate - yeah more than likely actually!
Thanks for the comment,
Sam :)
Awesome little engine, it's hard to not love little diesel shunters.
Thanks mate - haha yeah, got to love them! :3
All the best,
Sam :)
Hi Sam. Great video. I am thinking of buying one of these. Just wondering, how many wagons can the diesel sentinel pull? Thx-cal :)
Hey Cal! They're not particularly powerful, but easily able to haul a prototypical load! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hey Sam, good review by the way!! I’ve became very fond of this loco. I live in the us and I can’t find this train anywhere not even online
Hi sam I absolutely love the hornby sentinel I got one of the earlier one in ncb blue. Such a lovely runner.
Hi! Ooh awesome - glad you like them too - I was really impressed by this! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
I believe that Crossley and Evans scrapyard still has 2 of these in there loco shed although I think I heard one of them has a tree growing in it. The first lot of these that Hornby released where all based on the chain driven version thats why the con rods look like there just for decoration. Although have 1 of each (NCB blue chain drive & Barabel NCB Maroon con rod) I do think the con rod one is better just because its funny to watch the counterweight rotate.
Ooh really?! I take it they don't work any more then? lol!
Ahh okay - thanks for letting me know, that makes sense! Yeah I like seeing that too - it adds visual interest!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Taggart00 I used to live near the Shipley Crossley Evans scrapyard, as well as work trains passed it.
There are 4 diesel on site:
2 are old Ruston 4wDM shunters (which are the ones with trees). 1 is the blue sentinel 4wDH, which doesn't do a lot these days. And the 4th is their green Ruston 0-6-0DM (class 01.5) 01507, but numbered as 426 and named Venom.
However I don't think there's much for them to do a lot of the time. They never seemed to have moved when I kept going passed.
There is also the Hunslet Prince of Wales but the tyres on that are like pulleys. Well they have lost there rail connection now haven't they?
I've never seen that one in there. I think they got rid of it... as for the rail connection it's still there and signalled.
I have one of these but in red and without coupling rods.
Oooh nice - how does that one compare?? :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains Quite well to yours and no problem, however my one is older.
Judging by Den from Thomas and Friends, I think the other end is the front. Also, the 04 shunter is the basis of Mavis from Thomas and Friends, although she is based on the tramway version.
Yeah you're probably right - but they were designed to run in either direction, so I don't think it matters too much :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Hi Sam nice review as always. This model is Den the diesel engine and he was introduced in the CGI show that is probably why you don't know him he works with another diesel called Dart that Hornby produces some time ago. they both work at the Sodor diesel works repairing the other diesels that work on the island. I've been wanting this model but never got the urge to buy one due to the price though I got one in dark blue and it doesn't have the coupling rods.
Thanks a lot Joseph - yeah I've been hearing about Den! Thanks for the info mate,
Cheers,
Sam :)
I've got one in wabtech livery their lovely little locos and this review shows how amazing models they are
That's good to hear Harry - yeah they are great models - really glad you liked the review mate!! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I spotted three 08 shunters (two were double-heading), the black Dock Shunter, the weird green tank engine, E2 Thomas' brother and black Jimmy the Jinty with an LMS Milk Van on the turntable. Enjoyed watching the grey P Class tank engine, the 04 shunter and the Sentinel Shunter very much. If this helps you out any, Thomas the Tank Engine was only performing shunting duties on Sodor at first. He had a go at hauling proper passenger and goods trains, running into trouble along the way. Last but not least, after helping newcomer James the Red Engine, Thomas was given his own Branch Line. In the season 1 story Thomas in Trouble, he is seen hauling four coal wagons and Annie and Clarabel together. Thomas is a mixed traffic engine, and his brother E2 is the same. So E2 is the odd one out, as he's of the mixed traffic persuasion. Hope I've straightened this out for you.
Very well spotted with those Kelly - that's right! Thanks again for playing and commenting!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yes Sam you did the HORNBY SENTINEL AWSOME
Yeah I did! Glad you liked it mate!
Cheers,
Sam :)
This Diesel looks cool imo, and it's a good companion piece to the Hornby Dart
Thank you! Yeah for sure - they'd be great together! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
That livery is amazing
Thanks James - glad you liked that!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Hi Sam. The Sentinel is quite a pretty model, but it was a shame that some of the ratings couldn't have been a little higher (not that they were unfair). I'm not convinced as to which end is the front or back as many shunters (both steam and diesel) seem to be used mostly in reverse!
Thanks Paul - yes some aspects could have been better, but it's a decent model overall! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
They are nice model! Got one when they first came out.
Ooh awesome! I missed out on them for a while - glad to have her now though!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Some Sentinel Diesel Shunters were also produced with 8 wheels. Thus making them an 0-8-0 shunter.
That's pretty awesome - I didn't know that!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam'sTrains Well, now you know. With the 0-8-0 sentinel shunter, the cab is in the middle, like a class 17 Clayton diesel, for a more symmetrical appearance and an even weight distribution.
Great Video Sam And That Diesel Engine Looks Like Den From Thomas And Friends
Thanks Jacob, yeah it does actually! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I always wanted a Hornby layout. I always want a Sentiel (but I have not enough money). If you have a Hornby Dart, you could print a face of Den (Darts companion) and use it as Den :)
Awhh sorry to hear that mate- maybe you could save up for some?? Yeah you could - that'd be very cool to try! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam, loving your content as always. Keep it up and you might have your own television show! I am currently constructing a new layout. For scenery any tips on what to use and what to be careful of.
Ron. 😁
haha thanks Ron - I don't think I'd be able to speak on TV even if I got the chance - I don't think I have the guts lol ;D
Ooh that's very cool - I don't know very much about scenery to be honest (as you can tell by my layout!) But if there's anything you think I can help with, I'd be glad to try and help!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I think your scenery is lovely, that's why I asked! 😁
Sam'sTrains If you can do it on UA-cam, you can do it on TV
12:45 I see the long end as the front! Den from Thomas and Friends is based on this engine, and his face is at the long end! But you are right that shunting locomotives don't really have a front!
Yeah a lot of people have said that - I guess that might be right! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I have one ( Graham ) And I agree with you that you should not hold it by the sides you should hold it by the cab. ( but not the windows)
Ahh fantastic - I've seen that one! It's definitely tricky finding a good place to grip this one!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I don’t know why but the design of counter weights on the wheels is really interesting to me. Shame the wheel base is so small is it clearly cases some problems going over the express points. Either way it’s a nice little diesel.
Yeah me too! Very very unusual looking - quite like it though! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I found that sometimes letting the trains run in and warm up can help them over the points not sure why but it seems to work.
Yeah that's true - if the wheels or pickups are dirty, running will improve slightly as it warms up!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I admire the way you respond to comments so quickly I always like it when a channel engages with its fans :)
I really love the look of the dual counterweights and I was already looking out for one of these before you made the review so now I'm even more excited and I know to look on railsofsheffield because they're £58 on Hattons without DCC
Thanks mate! Yeah I really like that too - such an interesting look! Yeah for sure - definitely do some shopping around! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Your sentinel looks like it has been taken apart before. The handrails need to be removed for taking apart and there is also a bit of a gap between the body and the chassis. That would also explain the lining not being lined up. Mine in this livery has none of these issues. everything on mine was intact with no gaps and all hand rails were properly attached.
Hmm, that's very interesting - I didn't really get that impression, but you could be right! It was brand new though!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Woahhhh that's a colorful one! I love something other than just black!
Maybe you could find an American booster tank - they are quite energetic!
Thanks a lot Alex - I agree, the colour on these sentinels is lovely!! :D
I'll take a look for those - thanks for the tip!
Cheers,
Sam :)
I'm not a great 0-4-0 fan, but I would buy a Sentinel - plenty character for a diesel. Btw - you did show an image of an 0-6-0 Sentinel from a trip - 7:11 (maybe allow longer distance between pick-ups if a manufacturer took it up (though very unlikely). Another excellent review. Alan.
i want one they look awsome thanks for the great review sam
Thanks mate, I can recommend these! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
hi sam
they are nice if they do a bass one i may get one but as you know they not my cup of tea
is the lms pug (l&yr 25) or hornby new w4 got smaller wheel gap?
the e2 are dock shunters
top video
keep safe arp
Thanks Adi - would would a bass one look like?
I'm not sure about that - If I ever get one, I'll compare them!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
The Sentinel has much happening with design but never looks cluttered, well that's how I see it. Very nice purchase. Could a small capacitor help with smoothing out power over the points? Enjoyed the video as always. Thanks Sam and Bullman too of course
Yes you're right Jimmy - a lovely looking shunter actually! Unfortunately you'd need a very large capacitor (capacitance-wise) in order to do that - but I hear it can be done! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
15:46 Bullman the Christmas 🐄 with Sentinel O-4-0, Sentinel O-4-0 is very happy with Bullman.
16:59 I think that is Mavis
haha absolutely - they get on very well together! ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I've never been too keen on these, they have a look to them that's... not railwaylike. We have a similar machine here which I could only describe to look like a Mercedes on rails. Still, model looks fair enough. As for being troublesome on points: perhaps you could fit a few capacitors between the pickups and decoder/motor to give it a few seconds of battery power?
haha that's okay mate - I know what you mean, they're not railway like in a traditional sense! Yeah that's a possibility - but I don't know how you'd wire it, since normal capacitors are polarised, and it's dangerous to reverse their polarity!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Great Video Sam And I Like To Watch The Movie Unstoppable And It's Pretty Cool All The Action Is Pretty Cool And With Tony Scott Being The Director Of The Movie Unstoppable And It Was Pretty Cool That Will Calson Got Inside Of Triple 7 To Stop It By Putting On The Brakes
Thanks so much Jacob, yeah that is a very cool film! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video as always Sam! Really loved it! I know a lot of people have said this, but I do believe the Thomas And Friends locomotive Den was based off this. Also, just curious, when will the next live stream be, I don't wanna miss it! I'm always in school when you do it (U.S. time is 6 hrs ahead of U.K, so it's about 11:00am over here when you do them) Cheers mate, Tyson :)
Thanks a lot Tyson - yes others have said that too, so I think you're right! I'm hoping to start streams again on the 25th! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
The only realistic solution to the point problem with these short wheelbase loco's is electrofrogs but they would cause other issues without a bit of rewiring to your layout.
Yes you're right Rob - there's no other easy fix, unless you take points at speed of course ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hey Sam, which steam loco do you think would be nice to get as a first loco (mainly tender locomotives)
Hmmm.. take a look at the Hornby Railroad Range, those are great! The Hornby Railroad Hall Class is brilliant for example! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
What a lovely loco, I want one now
Thanks a lot Cooper - well they're good and cheap actually! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Great video mate! Seems like a pretty good little loco, the running looks pretty good too! And I'd imagine with some of those fancy points that huge layouts have she'd get on fine! Pulling power seems a bit of a shame considering she's a shunter, loved seeing the 04 out and about, really must get one of those, all the best mate --- Ben
Thanks very much mate - yeah I was super impressed by this too! Yeah for sure - non-insulfrog points will probably cope fine with these! Yeah absolutely - I had expected her to pull more... but then again, the whole body just seems to be plastic!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Great video Sam I think the diesel videos are a good idea and maybe some modern locomotives suck as the class 150 or something like that I'm not so shure
Thanks A! Oh yeah for sure - I will try to show some more modern ones soon! :3
Cheers,
Sam :)
Hi Sam , lovely little diesel shunter and this would benefit from having a stay alive decoder fitted . .......Peter
Thanks a lot peter - yeah absolutely - can you get stay alives for DC then? I take it they don't have a polarity?
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I have never fitted one as yet , just seen them on UA-cam so don't know about DC only . I was in a shop the other day and someone was buying a DCC decoder with a stay alive unit in the same pack . .......Peter
Maybe a flywheel would help, but no matter who is the manufacturer is, any small wheel based 0-4-0 will have the same pick up issues on big dead sections, so no complaining for that. And yes it order+shipping price is what keeps me away from this loco, its hard to find a used one, but i saw some nicely weathered ones on the net, but they (obviously) even more expensive.
Yeah maybe - I don't know if this has one actually, but it doesn't seem like it! Yes that's true - but if there's the right pressure between the pick-up and the wheel, the performance issues will be minimal!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Hi Sam a great video again.
And are you gonna buy the 80th anniversary Mallard edition?
I am going to maybe if i have the money.
Greetings Jens.
Hi Jens, thanks so much! As lovely as it looks, I'll give it a miss - you pay a lot of money for the mechanism in that loco - but if you run her, the gold is ruined - so I don't think it's one for me sadly :/
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Actually Sam the gold has a special coating so it last a lot longer but your right some people don’t want to spend a lot on locos like that
Jens Treinman Yes, that is a good idea!
Looks good in blue and a nice little model, but a shame about some of the little details like the line along the side. I am the sort of person who would find that very irritating. I was thinking of getting something of this size myself for getting coaches in my sidings sorted out for the big engines. As, by its nature, this involves going over a lot of points a four wheeler would probably not do. It is a Bachmann 44T that I have in mind for the job.
Thanks Ian - I love the blue too! I did find it irritating to be honest - but I need to lay off on Hornby a bit really! Yeah absolutely - these definitely aren't to keen on complicated pointwork!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
The front looks like the long end, based on that's where the console is inside the cab.
Yeah you're probably right, thanks for the comment!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Just a guess though based on that. Though I would agree that it'd make more sense the other way round given viability reasons, but it's the same for class 08s and class 04s forwards has less viability.
I know that the LMR had a 0-8-0 version and I saw one at the Hitachi javelin depot
Blimey that's very impressive - I'd love to get a look at one of those!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Perhaps Hornby in the future could sell a separate wagon that could plug into the 0-4-0 locomotives to add 4 extra pickups similar to the new Rustin diesel shunter.
I'd definitely love that - great idea!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Even small locomotives can have high detail. As can be said with hattons. Who's your favourite EPL team Sam?
Absolutely - some of them are so impressive! OOh I'm not sure mate - what's an EPL team?! D:
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Half expected a showing of the Ruston 48DS Shunter. How would you like to do a comparison?
That'd be awesome! Maybe some time! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hey Sam, you know that Hatton’s put your video on their page about the P class? Lucky you!! Looks like you’re getting a bonus to seeing it early. Hopefully it brings in some new viewers for you.
Ooh did they? I'll have a look - thanks for letting me know!! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam said you don't get steam locomotives that some in the class were built with extra driving wheels.
What about the austerity 2-8-0 they had 2-10-0 variants.
Ooh really? I should have said that I've never heard of any so far - I stand corrected if that's true! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I will get this. It will probably my only diesel. But it looks so beautifull
That's great to hear - I'm sure you'll really enjoy this one! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
I’m not sure what train I like the best the Janus or the sentinel shunter.
haha I know - hard to choose!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The sentinal was desighed to cross over short points at yards not express points
Yeah absolutely - it wasn't absolutely fair to test her on express points, but I let the score reflect that! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
12:50 That is the back. The side with the Flaps is the front
Ahh okay! I guess it's not important though - since they went both ways right??
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Hi! Sam, do you have a Gresley V4, only asking because I saw the boiler and cab today. Being built by the team that built the Tornado. They are also building the Prince of Wales! What's your thoughts? Thank for your brilliant channel.
Hi Trevor, I don't think I have a V4 - I do have the V3 though - I'm really looking forward to seeing those done - it should be brilliant finally! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains Hi! Sam, you're most welcome. I can't remember what the Prince of Wales locomotive is going to be, but when I find out I'll let you know. Keep up with the excellent reviews.
Hey Sam
Great review
I believe that they also did 0-8-0 variants too, possible new model's maybe?
I do love the sentinels but then I guess there is a heavy bias on my part due my love of things born of necessity
Thanks for the upload
Olly
Hi Oliver! Ooh that's very interesting - I'll google that and see if I can see any!
Glad you like her anyway mate,
Cheers,
Sam :)
yo the camera angle at 20:04 is epic!
haha thanks mate - people always like that one :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Brilliant review Sam have seen a lot of review on these
Thanks a lot David - glad you liked it, yes I've seen a fair few too, hehe! ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
What Did You Like Best?
Rails Of Sheffield Or Hattons.
Actually, these days the service from both of those is brilliant - so just go with whoever has the lowest price for whatever you're looking for! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Something ive always wanted to know... Why do diesels like this Sentinel, and the class 08, have side rods??? What good does it do???
It allows multiple sets of wheels to be driven, producing greater pulling power! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
THE FIRST CLIP IS SHOWING THE LOCO GOING BACKWARDS!!! 😂😂
haha I didn't know they had a 'back' - I thought they could go either way! ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Spud 607 Shunters can pull or push either way as that’s how they’d move wagons in goods yards.
Ah I have seen these. Always wondered where the front was
haha yeah! I think in truth either end could be the front really ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains Your welcome Sam. :)
What wagons are being pulled by the 04, I really like them. Nice video aswell :)
Hi mate! Yeah I like those too - I found them at a train fair once, they're just the longer style Hornby ones! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
this seems like a really good loco
Yeah I think so - she's a great little runner! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Its great I have the red one Barabel it’s absolutely famtastic
Ooh nice - glad that one's good too - I'd love to get some more of these one day! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Yep they’re great
Quite an impressive loco. Shows Hornby can make a good product every so often. ;)
Thanks a lot mate! Yeah absolutely - and for a reasonable price too! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
I think the box had crosley and evens on it because I think this locomotive is/was at crosley and evens scrap yard. :D
AHh I see - thanks for the info Michael!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Nice review. He looks like Den from Thomas and Friends
Thanks mate! Apparently Den was based on this :3
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
0:00 Was that Spencer's whistle?
Which steam class did this engine replace? Don't all the diesels from the 60s replace a steam engine from then?
Ooh I'm not sure - I think these were more for industrial/private use, so they probably existed outside of the steam/diesel feud!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
What's up with the roof of the building at 18:02 Sam!
haha! That's the room that the crane mechanism is inside.... it keeps trying to burst out ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I like them. You forgot Steel Works. Nice model.
Thanks Nigel! Oh yeah of course - they came from all over really! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
I would like to point out that you were running her backwards the whole time, the long end is the front.
