Nissan has been cutting quality for over 30 years. German cars have perfected the art of making very expensive cars with patchy reliability. They live off of the status of the name more than actual quality.
Don’t buy a car that is turbo charged, direct injection, CVT, and has a computer viewer and control devise! That only leaves you pre 2000 cars. My 1997 Honda is looking real good.
Consider a Toyota hybrid. Great for what you don't get. No turbos. No GDI without port injection. No sleazy mechanical CVT. No belts (accessory, timing, or Wet). No start/stop system. No 11 speed torque converter automatic. No torque converter. No 12 Volt starter or alternator. No belt driven AC compressor (it's electric like your home frig). Electric car goodness without the electric car drawbacks.
Direct injected and CVT yes I agree, Hyundai. Turbos are ok as long as you maintain them properly. I have a 17’ GTI with over 125K and it’s running nicely!
@ You just hit ! Do you think for even the masses will take care of a turbo and all it entails? So in mass the turbo should never be part of Of consumer transportation. I believe it is planned for the masses of cars to fail on purpose. It is the screwing of the public.
@ Well you can buy a three cylinder direct injection turbo charged engine SUV ,with variable speed transmission and course the video screen devise that controls the car total system…. You can start a gambling pool in which area will self destruct first!
Even if they don’t have issues, they’re just soooo unsatisfying to drive and usually very slow. I once drove a 2020 Nissan pathfinder with a CVT and I couldn’t believe how sluggish it was. Like if you wanna pass on a two lane road, it just ain’t gonna happen 😂
I have a kia forte, and I LOVE it. People complaining about the ride and comfort need to remember that it is supposed to be an affordable econo-box, not a Rolls Royce. You can't have your cake and eat it too. I personally think the forte is an excellent car
I also own a 2019 forte and it’s really comfortable and to me it runs perfect. What we really have to consider is oil consumption. I am already asking for a solution (still under warranty) but I don’t have any other complaint about the car, better than many of it’s competitors
Nuts to CVT and turbochargers. I own a 2014 Impala with a 3.6L engine and a 6 speed transmission. Lots of smooth power and zero issues. Excellent ride quality and handling.,
The problem with turbocharger is that people do oil changes 6k+ miles and not at 3k miles (depending on oil color). In other words, maintenance is not a key factor for most owners. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I have a cvt 13 years and it still problem free. Also. Turbocharged 7 years no problems. So much gor the info here. BTW, you can get a bad engine in ANY car
Yes CVT are fine. It depends on how one drives. If you’re are spirited driver than CVT isn’t for you. I hate my wife’s Xtrek, it can’t out of its own way!
I'm with you I have one of the most unreliable cars that I use for my daily commuter to keep miles off my good cars. 2013 Chevy Cruze 1.4t. 230,000 mi and no problems but I change my oil every 4,000 MI and drive it like an economy car and not a race car
I liked my 2019 Jetta SE and I really like my current car which is a 2024 GLI. I’ve also had 2 Elantra N’s, a Supra, Mazda CX30, Kia Forte GT, and an Alfa Romero Giulia. They all have their pros and cons but there wasn’t any particular car that I had buyers remorse with
The problem that you didn't mention with the Kicks is that those ratings probably apply to the old one which was hideous. Not that I really trust Nissan to deliver anything great these days, but you have to also acknowledge that the brand new Kicks is literally just barely coming out right now, and those ratings don't necessarily reflect on the new one just yet and judgement should still be reserved. At least the new one looks a thousand times better.
People who buy lower price cars will almost always hope to buy a higher level car, so CRs question of "Would you buy that car again?" unfairly makes cheap cars seem less desirable.
You talk about how slow the forte is, but the forte you had in the video was the GT which at 200hp, fully independent suspension and cool sounding exhaust is more fun to drive than most variants of the civic, corolla, and mazda 3. Not too mention how generously equipt it is. It even comes with cooled seats among a host of other cool features.
Dumped my 23 Jetta Sport manual at 10k miles. The dealership I traded at also sold Volkswagen and they had a bunch of Jettas at 10k miles or less. Besides being a low quality piece of crap, it doesn’t take long to realize the downside of turbocharging an underpowered engine. Great gas mileage but downright dangerous pulling away from a stop without sufficient boost. Will be my last Volkswagen and my last turbo.
I looked at a 25 VW Jetta and the ride was rather hard and it had 18 inch wheels so I went acros the street and brought a 24 Honda Accord and I'm so very happy I did.
I don't understand why people would buy an economy car and then complain about how slow it is. It's not meant to be fast, but efficient and easy to drive daily
My Jetta GLI is not the same car as the base Jetta. Different engine, DSG, and LSD. It's a blast to drive (like the GTI) and super fast (0-60 around 5.5 with the DSG). Plus reliability wise never had an issue. And an inexpensive tune and some inexpensive suspension mods make it a true pocket rocket (my tune has it at over 350hp at the wheels) mant rivaling BMW's for the money. I agree that the base Jetta sucks. My lady had one. Underpowered, vague steering and handling, etc.
Noticing its a lot of smaller "affordable" cars on the list. They arent all that affordable and when you're paying that much money its hard to feel cheated if its subpar. Its 2024. It really should be illegal for any car to have under 160 hp. And why does it seem impossible for these companies to make quality reliable cars? They have been doing it for decades. I had a 2018 Honda Fit and was completely floored with how low quality and unreliable it was. The industry might say these cars are cheap but they are aimed at people who low finances make it a very very big deal. These cars are incredibly expensive. And when you look at these products that take up huge amounts of your income and they end up sub par, how are you not suppose to feel anything but dissapointment. Automakers have given up on the segment.
At this point I wouldn’t listen to consumer reports with 2 cars in the list. The Jetta and the Taos. The Jetta is pulling me away from the Civic and the Taos I didn’t find bad at all. Along with understanding of how a A DSG behaves, the one I tested didn’t feel jerky as they claim.
I have always been a fan of the Jetta but VW missed the mark turning them into a bloated Chevy Malibu. I have had about every era of Jetta in the latest body style has turned me elsewhere.
Im surprised the Versa aint up there with their crappy CVT transmission and the same engine as the Kicks Only reason my Versa transmission hasn't crapped its pants at 222,xxx miles is because its a manual #savethemanuals

the video screen devise that controls the car total system…. You can start a gambling pool in which area will self destruct first!
So in other words, don't buy anything with a CVT
i own 3 cars with CVT… no problems
Just Nissan CVT’s other cars with CVT’s do very well even though CVT’s are generally disliked.
In theory CVT transmissions should be superior to conventional automatic transmissions but they still have a ways to go.
STI Impreza that I owned didn't have any issues in it's CVT, at least maybe the problem it's who made it tbh

So I want to buy a cheap car but then complain it's not as smooth as a Cadillac and doesn't handle like a sports car. Makes total sense!
Toyotas, Mazdas and Hondas all have fantastic quality compared to these vehicles. They don't have to be expensive to be made right or nice.
I have a cvt 13 years and it still problem free. Also. Turbocharged 7 years no problems. So much gor the info here. BTW, you can get a bad engine in ANY car

You can't pay $20 to $25,000. and expect it to be a $50,000 vehicle.
I liked my 2019 Jetta SE and I really like my current car which is a 2024 GLI. I’ve also had 2 Elantra N’s, a Supra, Mazda CX30, Kia Forte GT, and an Alfa Romero Giulia. They all have their pros and cons but there wasn’t any particular car that I had buyers remorse with
Dude. You go through cars quick.
1.5 litre. Shows a pic of a 2 liter GLI.Stopped watching this BS.
Right, two completely different cars

Still driving my 08'3.5SE 6MT BAE...it's still an awesome reliable beast!!
When did VW have solid satisfaction ratings? 1975?

IRS too compared with regular Jetta.
@@mawelsh IRS? Independent rear suspension?
@@SamLed1111 Yes, regular Jetta has torsion beam.
I am old enough (70) to remember when Nissans were reliable. I can’t figure out why Nissan decided to commit corporate suicide with their Jatco CVT’s.
Its almost like if people cared about reliability you should only ever buy toyota, honda and mazda 😂. People never learn
Jetta Owners have complained about dated design......yet they still bought one lol😂
What's GOOOOOD Ideal Fam!!
Is the Kia sportage reliable?

Con-job reports is a shame of a magazine. They are one of the most biased. Just look who's on their board.
I'd buy my 1999 Intrepid again, but I can't find one anywhere. 🤣
I really understand the C class being underwhelming. just buy a Giulia or 330i instead if you are ok with a less classy interior.
Germany, Kia and Nissan...so no real surprises.
3 series is so much better than the C class. Interior wise C class is better but that’s about it
As in our new '24 RAV 4 Prime XSE, you have shift paddles to create a "six speed", silly
If the several car companies go bust because of incompetence, and greed. They will deserve their fate.
Be warned. Chevy Trax and Ford Fiesta might still use Wet Belt technology.
The Altima has become a boring basic RENTAL CAR only kind of thing, meh
Altimas quickly on their way to their 5th owner
Are there any Nissan's that are worth buying?
