I have to admit, I do find Alex and Addie adorable. They are basically the only thing I like about this dumpster fire of a movie. I just wished they were in a much better movie than this.
It’s actually kind of impressive how bad the Emoji Movie was. Like, how can you make EVERY internet/pop-culture reference feel dated in a movie that is ENTIRELY BASED OFF OF INTERNET AND POP-CULTURE?? How does Wreck-it-Ralph feel less dated than this movie?? That movie is literally based off of retro video games from 40 years ago and it still feels more fresh and relevant than the Emoji movie. You know why that happened? Because Wreck-it-Ralph was a film with effort and passion put into it. It knew what it was doing with every reference. Every video game character was iconic and memorable, so of course they wouldn’t feel dated! Can you say that about the Emoji Movie?? Can you say the cat videos and ‘pen-pineapple-apple-pen’ were iconic and memorable, with passion and effort in every frame!? And the worst part about this is that these stupid memes and internet references are basically the whole movie. First, Gene and his forgettable friends go to Candyland (instead of using the hallways between each app WHICH WOULD BE MUCH QUICKER), and then Just Dance (wait is Just Dance even available on a phone??) and then, at the fucking CLIMAX OF THE FILM, Girlboss Wildstyle Independent Woman (Jailbreak) calls the fucking Twitter bird to fly to Gene’s rescue. Wait, what? That doesn’t even make any sense! If apps are settings in this universe, wouldn’t the Twitter bird flying look like an entire fucking building careening into the room!?!? And the story… it’s just awful. It’s some stupid thing where “Character wants to be themself, but is told by society they can’t be themself, but then ‘wait no being yourself is good and cool.’” And this message is, quote unquote, “Developed,” over Gene’s adventure through apps in an attempt to re-program himself. No, I will not describe this further, talking about the Emoji Movie in a UA-cam comments section alone makes me feel sick. Fun fact, I actually have a cold at the making of this comment. Huh. So anyway. There’s this weird sub-plot where Alex, the kid who owns the phone, tries to impress Addy, the cool girl he’s into. Buuuut some random “glitches” across his phone (our terrible protagonist trio) keep embarrassing himself. It’s actually really creepy how they show his affection for her. At some point in the movie, “Addy” is the password for Alex’s firewall. Anyway. So, naturally, he wants to get his phone reset because of the glitches. But! Before he can do it, Gene turns into some weird super-emoji that impresses the girl and convinces Alex not to reset the phone. Wait, the super-emoji is still a glitch. So why would he decide against reseting his phone? Sure, it turned out well for him this time, but it’s still a glitch. Anyway. The phone isn’t reset and the protagonists have a cringe dance-off before this nightmare of a movie ends. In conclusion: Every negative thing said about this movie is true, and I never want to see it again.
Besides, it doesn't make sense. How come the guy's crush can see the emoji? She needs to have that emoji to see it You don't need to go in a store to reset your phone, you can just simply reset it on settings. You can't cancel a Factory Reset and recover the deleted stuff (in reality, it would corrupt the phone's files) Thats not how it seems to reset the phone
This is much better, basically these were the parts that mattered at all. Honestly I think it’s significantly better than the film in full, which is saying something, even with some things being illogical, other fictional animated series have done the unrealistic too. If these parts weren’t surrounded by what you’re supposed to watch the film for, they could have easily been their own thing, it would have been more enjoyable and it just looks overall better design/animation wise and it shows to an extent.

When this movie was made I was in 3rd Grade. Now I'm actually a freshman in High School. The movie was bad then but even worse now.
I had the displeasure of seeing it in the theater. It’s even more horrifying on the big screen. My life has never been the same
My sister was in 1st grade (I was also in 3rd) and she had the nightmare of seeing it as a drive in movie with her friend.
Better than the whole movie
I love Addie and Alex
So do I
sending an emoji... is _not_ equivalent to "being able to express their feeling". That's just fcking insecure if anything.
And cringe, don't forget it's cringe (until you're doing it ironically)
And it's lazy has hell.. If someone sent me a single emoji and expected me to take that as expressing thier feelings then I'd tell them to go get some help
As cringe as this movie is, viewing emojis as the modern hieroglyphics is kinda interesting .
not as interesting as bofadie
Travis is a good friend to Alex I can understand why they’re best friends
How’d you know his name (not talking about Alex)

Ahh yess because by one press of a button and a single emoji is the best way fo express your feelings
0:46-0:53 Ahh yes, hieroglyphics, the most important invention.
