Nothing beats an old babit beater. I've got a 47 myself with no oil filter. It was actually kinda pointless on the 216 because it only really filtered part of the oil. Your cank case system was separate from the rocker system. I guess it beat nothing but one has to wonder how much filtration those filters actually had.
Hello … nice truck …. I just got me a 51 Chevy truck and wanted to do an oil change.. but not sure what oil to go with. I’ve been told to use sae 30 or 15-40
The good old american way Use filters that dont clean oil then drain the dirty oil. I stopped draining oil in 1963..with a toilet paper oil filter. Started with a Frantz oil cleaner. All I use now are the easier to service Motor Guards and Gulf Coasts. They all clean oil. I use Great Value 1000 from Walmart now. Many use Scott 1000.
I recently put a Jackmaster Classic on the Pontiac. I converted a flat head Ford bypass filter to take a roll of Scott 1000. Im putting it on 1900 Ford tractor I just bought. Was looking for a 8 N in good condition. Ended up with a 79 1900 4 wheel drive diesel that needs work.
I have a 1951 Chevrolet truck and was told that I need to run non -detergent oil because oil with detergent in it will destroy the bearings , is there any truth in this ?
They gave you two choices on the old cars. No oil filter and a filter that didnt clean oil. My 38 chevy sedan had no filter. Even the people that had the filters were content as hell draining the dirty oil. No thought that the sludge and other contaminants should be in the filter. People were so content with draining dirty oil that when John Frantz invented the filter that cleaned oil and used a 10 cent roll of toilet paper it was considered snake oil.by many. Filters that didnt work were legitimate. I put a 235 in my father in laws old 50 chevy.I put a Motor Guard oil cleaner on it.and Standard Delo 30 weight. He told his wife he wanted me to have it.. wife talked me into giving it to her brother that was crying. He put a junk 260 v8 in it that threw a rod.then I was crying. He should have at least put a 283 in it. Standard Delo was a high detergent oil with all the additives for diesel engines. There were no multi grades for diesels in those days. Delo 100 in those days.Delo 400 is what you see mostly these days.
Atta Girl Dawn ! You Have An Absolutely Beautiful 1950 3100
