Travel into China more, not for the events or business, just as an ordinary tourist, don’t followed the crowd, and…the English medias. The more you sink into this Nation/civilisation, the more you will be fascinating by its beauty and uniqueness. Worth a lifetime to explore it.
We chinese welcome u, people here are friendly
@@elon6307 People ARE friendly, sadly... the city itself... isn't.

Loved this content! I’m from the UK and been living in China for 13 years - everything you experienced is relatable. Just got to enjoy the ride. It’s such a complex, fun and fascinating place. Come back soon.
Just to clarify, reason why you can't access google and UA-cam etc, is that those american companies do not agree to obey Chinese law when operating in China, that's why they got kicked out. But trying to ban or force sell tictok is another whole new level as tictok follows all rules and laws americans asked for
👍 a small correction if I may, they didn’t got kicked out, they decided not to operate in China when China asked them to comply with China’s regulations.
Not exactly correct.
The earliest cause was Baidu's vicious competition as a Chinese Internet company.
At that time, Baidu used google to search some technologies or methods to search violent and bloody pornographic content through frequently. In the end, Google’s search recommendations in China were filled with violent, bloody and pornographic content.
Baidu's ultimate goal is to achieve commercial competition by use political means, which is caused gov mistakenly believe that Google deliberately harms the physical and mental health of Chinese people.
After that, GOV found a non-targeted reason, such as not agree to obey Chinese law, and banned Google.
Interesting. What are the regulations they refuse to comply with? It's surprising that they would give up such a huge market - corporations will usually say up is down if it means they can earn money. I'd love to know what made them decide to give up on chasing China profits.
@@naiyomotion in a nutshell, China asked for “China’s data stays in China”. Ticktock did that, operating separately in the US and in China, having server in the US, accepting supervision from the government to show that they didn’t leak any data. Anyway I think China is doing the right thing, remember Edward Snowdon? They decided to stop operating means they cannot make sure they can keep China’s data in China? Why would China trust a company like Google who is also an US government’s contractor.
@@naiyomotion Information on their websites must abey chinese law, No Sex, No Casino, No Drugs, No Anti-Gov or Country-Security related things. But google said No.

Haha, been following your China trip closely. As someone who has been living and DJing in South China for 16 years now, I need to tell you that EVERYTHING you are experiencing is 100% normal here lol. Take it all in and enjoy because this country is totally unique from any other place in the world. I really can't believe that they just let you fend for yourselves at the train station though hehe.
And last minute decisions from the authorities when they start getting super worried about crowd sizes is also normal. That creates massive pressure on the promoter who, in turn, pushes you to keep it tame. Technically speaking, every playlist performed in China must be approved in advance (with lyrics written out), but in practice I've never seen this enforced. Welcome to this great country and if you make it down to Shenzhen hit me up! Been a huge fan of yours since Covid :P

Hefei is NOT an international city in any sense, and it can be inexperienced in organizing a huge international event like the VAC music festival. Within two days, this event attracted a whopping audience of 126,000! This is the unprecedented number of audience in any outdoor event in the history of this city. So security should be a top concern. If they are inexperienced in handling some issues, pls show greater tolerance. It's an emerging megacity that is reputed for hi-tech manufacturing. Come for a stay and you'll not regret.

As a native Chinese, I can confirm that Hefei is NOT an international city in any sense.
@@evisonliao8802 In spite of that, Hefei's technological and industrial prowess Is amazingly great. It Is high time that Hefei earned international fame and recognition.
Yeah, if you translate the word "bitch" into Chinese, it is a really really offensive and bad word to use in public. I know in English this word sometimes has a positive meaning and people use it to mean "sassy" or cool or they just joke around, but in Chinese, no one would joke around with their friends using the Chinese version of this word because it is so offensive. I bet the oganizers, especially in a small city like Hefei, probably don't understand English and the culture behond the language. They'll look at the Chinese translation and because the Chinese version of the word is just so bad, it is hard for them to allow it in public.
Am happy many people are visiting China’s enjoying the beautiful country 🎉

7:05 Well I have no idea bout if James or the crew gonna see this comment. I’m one of the guys who made the DJ gears supply of that festival. What I need to say is the festival NEVER told us about needing of CDJ2000NXS2s ahead of time. They asked 18 CDJ3000s in total (didn’t show us the riders) and we were surprised that is every artist on the lineup using CDJ3000s now? Anyway we tried our best to find those 2000NXS2s and I believe the show is fantastic. BTW I’m the guy wearing blue SUBARU jacket at the back stage, started watching James live on UA-cam since 2-3years ago maybe. Cheers :)
22:12 also bout those dirty words problem, Chinese government just published few rules about festivals for artists, audience and festivals themselves. I've organized concerts in China, and we also advise performers to be mindful of their language. even including it in the contract. But there's no need to worry about getting caught. China is not as you might imagine; it's even more tolerant towards foreigners. It's not actually the government, the organizers, or the fans demanding this from you. Rather, it's some moral defenders who might see your performance. They would then make the organizers extremely, extremely embarrassed. This is also one of China's forms of political correctness. You don't need to worry about getting into trouble; it's the organizers who are worried about getting into trouble. Actually, you can do whatever you want on stage, as long as the moral defenders don't see it, there's no problem. The issue is that you have too many fans.
Personally I stand with the moral defenders, humans need moral in some sort of way
You're right.
this is what you do as an organizer in China? what is wrong with moral defenders? a no moral society is what you want?
You abandoned all your values in order to make some money. What is a moral defender? Shouldn't influential public figures promote positive energy and promote social development towards a better direction??
In China, You can't say or do whatever you want at the stage, such as LGBT or religion. These things are welcomed in west but not China, coz China is not trash bin.
I live in Shanghai. For an idea of the size I regularly take a Didi (Uber) from my university in the "suburbs" of Shanghai (where you will still find massive high rises and huge modern shopping malls) to my friend's place in the western "downtown" of Shanghai on mostly an eight lane highway running through the city. Regarding the VAC music festival, I want to clarify a few things. As a fan of James Hype, I was thrilled that he could perform in China. We prepared various flags and banners, but on the day of the event, all the rules changed: Alcohol sales were prohibited, flags were not allowed, and there were even incidents of security using excessive force. The organizers were just as shocked and angry as we were. Despite the rain, all the ravers came to enjoy the music and celebrate the May Day holiday. Since I was at the event, I can tell you that the atmosphere was fantastic. Almost no one was standing still; everyone was immersed in the music. From the start, I was shouting James Hype b**ch and singing along until the end. I hope you can come back to China soon!! We are very grateful for the music and energy you brought us!! You and Charlotte de Witte were the most popular acts at this festival, with your videos being shared across all social media platforms
Yeah James and charlotte definitely killed this festival🔥🔥🔥

here in China, the ravers are always the small group, and due to the different culture and management, it can’t be like the western ravers who can enjoy completely, because the “absolute safety”is the first important thing for Gov. Hefei is a bit more conservative city that has less foreigners, the government does not want young fans to cause any issues that they cannot handle. Big cities Shenzhen, Guangzhou would not have no such issues at all. Shanghai is the best place to be for western shows.
Hefei may be conservative in pop culture, but it's very innovative in science, technology, education and industry. Hefei aims to be a high-tech industrial city rather than a city of culture and tourism.
Hefei is more "like modern Chinese" than Shanghai, which is sometimes "too international".

Welcome to Hefei, I hope that next year's festival will be bigger, with more people, a cooler stage and a better experience。
It was not an easy task for Hefei to hold such a large-scale electronic music festival for the first time.Too many new attempts, as well as the concerns of the authorities, have led to the organizers facing various constraints, so that this feast of electronic music in the rain does not seem to be as free-spirited as imagined. This is not just a problem in Hefei, but also in China, where only a small number of young people can get involved in the turbulent Western culture. But thanks to its large population base, even electronic music festivals, which are not mainstream in China, can attract a huge number of fans. Many cities in China are trying to enhance their influence and cultural heritage by holding various cultural events, such as music festivals, electronic music festivals, and rock events. Hefei, as an emerging city with scientific and technological innovation as the starting point, is also making such attempts after having a large youth population.
This video is fantastic - thank you!!!
