Just made the Low Carb egg rolls. What a game changer. Loved them and thought of all the wonderful recipes I can make low carb using this dough. I know I will be able to use this to make empanadas - sweet or savory. I fried them in an air fryer at 390 degrees for 10 minutes . Thanks for all of your wonderful recipes.
Papa G.. I must admit, I haven't yet actually made the egg roll filling.. but I have the wrapper dough twice now, and let me tell you. You are a culinary genius! I've twice made fried apple pies using the dough.. I fill them with no sugar added apple butter, and let me tell you. MMM MMM good. Reminds me of what I use to make with actual flour before I went low carb. The only downside I found is that the dough doesn't stay very crispy the next day. But a small price to pay for being able to eat something from my childhood I thought I would need to do without.. Thanks Papa G.. keep up the good work!!!!
These were sooooooooo good! Toward the end of rolling, I put two, of the 16 sections, together and made a larger egg roll! (Primarily so I wouldn’t have to be so careful when rolling them up! Plus, I could put more filling!) I also made the hot mustard sauce to go with - it’s EXACTLY like the hot mustard we always request [from our Chinese take-out restaurant] but they always forget to give it to us! Pappa G i made the egg rolls last night and i liked them very much. Today i made the best steak pie i have made since being on keto with your egg roll pastry. I have made pies before and was not keen on the pastry so have not made a pie for a while. Wow absolutely beautiful pie. Thank you so much for your help with your amazing recipes. i like how your recipes are real food with realistic portions. most other low carb sites i've found have so many recipes that are only low carb b/c the portion sizes are ridiculously tiny. like 3 carbs for half a muffin...
I received my press today from Amazon WOW it is very nice and heavy, much nicer than I thought, I have my dough in the fridge now and my spicy sauce made, getting ready to grind my pork. Can you tell I am so excited for this recipe, I want to thank you so much. This means a lot to me.
I'm currently eating my egg rolls as I type. Mine were falling apart some and didn't look as good as yours but definitely on point taste wise! I cooked mine in the Air fryer. Prefect crisp!
Just tried these. The look about the same but I think I need to try again and make the wrap thinner. I don't have a press, so I rolled them out. I cooked some without wrapping, broke them apart into chips to eat with crab Rangoon dip. Those were nice and crispy, but I might add some type of spice to these in the future too. The ones I wrapped into egg rolls weren't very crispy. Dipping the flat "wrap" into the spicy sauce and into the crab Rangoon dip is very good. Solid flavor with the sauce and dip. I'll try these again in a month or so and see if making them thinner is more like a traditional egg roll. Worst case, not wrapping them and using them with egg roll filling as a chip/dip I imagine will be very good. Thanks for the recipe and great/to the point instructions

Just made these wrappers. Tripled the recipe. It made 16 2.5 OZ little balls to press the size of the whole plate of the tortilla press. They DON"T break! Froze, and vacuum sealed egg rolls, haven't fried one yet.

Hi Pappa G I have another question. Since i have made your beautiful egg rolls and steak pie out of same pastry. I was wondering if you would know if you can do hot water pastry with almond flour. I am going to try it but i just thought with your vast knowledge and your great recipes you might know if it will work. I want to make a sort of old fashioned pork pie and i know an old fashioned pastry is used as they say. I have researched to see if it can be done with almond flour but cannot find a thing on it. Is it possible to use something other than vital wheat gluten to maintain the strength and stretch of the dough? I’m sensitive to gluten, and this egg roll looks SO scrumptious!
Okay so I finally gotten a hold of the ingredients and made this. And I kid you not this is the REAL DEAL I just stuffed it with cheese and they're sooo good. However I can't finish it all should I store it in the freezer and for how long? Thank you for this recipe papa G 😊

Hi Claire. I haven't tried freezing, but as long as it's in a protective bag or wrap it should work. However, be sure to let it rest in the refrigerator first.
I just subscribed! Do you have a vegetarian filling for these? I agree about the tortilla press being easier. I bought the wax paper squares. But I will try the plastic wrap, as it seems to stick less when pressing
