Man, I must be under a rock not to have heard of this guy before two days ago. Been watching everything I can find on youtube of his playing. Doug is my new favorite bassist. World class. So musical.

Most people play pitches - You play... MUSIC from soul.

Just when I thought the really cool sounds had all passed, I came upon this! This is SUCH a hip, groovin' sound. My kids dig it too. We love playing together in the basement...Thanks for inspiring us!!!

Saw this cat in Berea Ohio a couple of Sundays ago and him and his band was amazing! Had an second Bass player on stage with him who was pretty bad ass too! A good friend who used to play with him told me I HAD TO GO see him and I feel fortunate to have been blessed enough to be there! Great artist!

Love this. When you get to a point where you can literally "talk" on an instrument, you've put yourself in the 1% of musicians. From there on, the only limitation is your own imagination.

Doug, you´ve created your own sound. You are different like no so many others bass players. That´s what´s really inspiring.

Like Doug said he has his voice. He speaks well and love hearing him. To compare him with others is not fair to any musician.

OK so I'm listening to Stanley on Spotify and his album finishes and Stairway to Heaven starts to play and I'm like Hmm this doesn't sound like Stanley but it's dope. I look and it's some guy named Doug Johns so I click on your album and I'm like WTF!! I'm thinking this is my new favourite Bass Player!! Cause this Dude is Damn Funky like me but way better!! :) And that folks is how you gain new fans!!

Caught doug opening up for the Aristocrats. Didn't know who he was before the show, and I offered him some herb outside before the show, haha....he respectfully declined. I went on to literally spill Guthrie Govan's stella artois, and cockblocked Marco minneman at the bar hitting on the waitress after the set around 1 am. These are the perks of seeing prog shows in Michigan. Oh and Bryan beller left my bass player friend a 1 minute long voicemail. Every musician I had the pleasure of seeing/meeting that night surpassed my expectations in friendliness (not musicianship haha)

My bass epiphany was when I was a teenager in the 80s cruising the sunset strip with friends and we went into a little mom n pop guitar shop. All my friends wanted to be lead guitar for the chics. I picked up a Pedulla bass in that shop and it was lke a switch flipped inside me. I knew I was a bassist, not for the chics, but for the groove! Yeah baby!

...I really enjoyed this video. Obviously, it's back to the wood shed for me! But, man, how do you go about playing so percussively yet with such clean, complete muting of all the other strings?? And practice drills that you used to develop this skill?? Thanks. PS- the black Nova (?) @ 31:07 is bad-to-the-bone!

Hey Doug, mine if I ask a question? I noticed at 0:21 that the truss rod nut looks like it's been filled in with something - mind if I ask what? Is it some other kind of coupling mechanism or what? I know it's a pedantic question, but I've had to get the truss nut changed on one of my basses before so I'm always on the lookout for ways to fix/prevent issues with it without getting a new bass.
Awesome playing by the way! You're one of the 21st century's bass heroes for sure...... an inspiration for the rest of us electric players :D

IMHO, I think Doug is equally as good as Victor Wooten. Too bad he just doesn't have the notoriety that Victor has. Doug is in a class by himself and he endorses Pedulla. I am also a proud owner of an older Pedulla Buzz Bass and it just doesn't get any better than that!

They actually are good friends. Victor has said Doug is his one of favorite bassists. They did a double bass show once, here in CLE. And like an idiot, I missed it...
