OH MY GOD... .AWESOME. I can't believe how much complaining the other commenters are laying on this video. These two guys sat down and played seamlessly (without any editing or breaks) 100 freakin' song fragments.... ranging across diverse styles... in order to illustrate a variety of drum and bass sounds. That... in and of itself... is EPIC. Do you realize how hard that is? How excellent they are for both choosing all those selections, and then executing them? I loved it.
I can her the bass that is not the problem, just it's more in the subwoofer range, it's all lows, no mids or highs, which gives the bass a lot of its tone, especially the mids. In the end its still a bad mix.
Very, very impressive to see you juggle keeping a pick handy and switching seamlessly, technique changes, tempo changes, key changes, feel changes, all the while staying true to the feel and tone of every song Bravo
Sounded great through my headphones. Don't know what everyone's complaining about. Maybe they're trying to listen to bass through their phones and expecting it to be good lol.
I can hear it too (also through headphones) , but you have to say they went to heavy on the bottom end, should have boosted some of the mids and highs to make it sound more like an actual instrument, I mean that's what gives bass a lot of its tone.
A) you’re bang on, there was so much more to them than the godlike guitar playing and lyrical genius of Johnny and Morrissey, and B) please tell me you roll with the Alan Partridge references?
Yeah, still too much low end, I can hear it fine on my headphones, but it still lacks mids and highs, play your bass through an amp, and then listen to this and you will hear the difference, the mix is all low end.
+shallowlord Probably to do with your speakers/headphones. If I listen through my laptop I hear pretty much nothing. On decent headphones it's perfectly fine.
It's called "A brief History"; not "Complete Anthology of Everything That Has Been Done Ever". Your favorite song is probably not on the list. Get over it.
+Wonjae Gye good point. But still, discarding Under Pressure and Kind of Magic. You have to admit that My Sharona and come together are epic bass lines in the rock genre
Whatever you have done in this mix is marvellous!!! Its the first video featuring bass guitar as the focus where I can hear the bass. Actual deep bass, even through headphones.
Great video! fantastic grooves. Excellent musicians. Non-musically trained people tend to overlook bass, specially a key element, which is the interplay between bass and kick drum, when in fact that's the foundation of rock music. Everyone pays attention to the larynx-tearing singer, the flash lead guitarist, the cymbal splashing drummer, but subconsciouslly they like a song because of the groovy bass line and a powerful kick drum supporting it. This video, with just the bass lines and drums is a perfect example.
Lol to those complaining they cant hear the bass, get a decent earbud or headphones. Man Im loving the tone of the base in this vid, the sub-bass and the deep rumbles. Good job!
Bass should not be on a sub but on a regular bass speaker, those are two different categories, sub is the kick drum or synth bass, a real bass lives over sub (frequency wise) and has its own speaker type. They need some mid and treble in their mix, only low end also eliminates any tone whatsoever.
Bernard Usually bass guitars aren't very loud in most bands. But in solo sessions, the bass should be turned up for it to be heard. (By the way, there is no such thing as "normal" instruments. They all have different characteristics. Same as humans.)
Kings of covers !!! …100 cool bass chops in one solid take with drums .. Well Done !! Also plenty of bass here loud and clear .. The mix is fine through my kit
Wow - great by both of you. How many takes? Fishbone, RHCP, Primus, RHCP in rapid succession must have been tough. Surprised you didn't stick Duran Duran Rio in there w/ John Taylor.
Awesome! But you should have included Zeppelin's Dazed And Confused(yeah I know it's a cover but they made the song their own) and The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again(the Bassline is actually more powerful on a 1978 Live version but the studio version is still great)
The thing is, the version Led Zeppelin plays is the version Jimmy Page played with The Yardbirds, so it isn't really Led Zep's version. Great song nonetheless
Cusco Othriyas Actually, it is Zeppelin's version because I heard The Yardbirds version and it was different from Zeppelin's version. It sounded closer to Zeppelin's version but they used the original lyrics and some of the structure different.
marc najjar If you could somehow convince Paul Rudd to do a Rush riff video, that would be awesome. You had Gene Simmons stop by once, so how hard could that be? ;-)
Think this this is amazing. I don't know about the audio problems some folks seem to be having. The balance I'm getting is drums mostly right, bass mostly left. Quite a feat. Well done!
Trent Stines I think he means he could have shifted it to standard tuning and got away with it. I've played covers that were originally played a whole step down in standard tuning and they've been great.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!!

I think that's actually kinda' accurate, like this was mixed for a standard band performance with guitar but with no guitar.

legendary rhythm duo: Beardy and Squints
Brian Tortise Chad Smith and Flea!!
John Paul Jones and Bonzo
I know that I'm supposed to listen to the bass, but the drums sounds so damn amazing. Well tuned, alive and expressive, love it! :)
The funny thing is someone edited this and said to themselves: "Yep, that sounds great!"
@@tewtadle268yeah
Excelent Krist Novoselic! thanks for your video.
for drummers that don't understand... THAT is how deep your kick drum is supposed to be. sounds better. plays easier. etc
thats a killer sound
sounds better when you are recording it. But it won't exactly project well in a live situation
You've obviously never heard of or played jazz. Lmao.
Bob Robert no sir, you're one who hasn't.
I always think it's a shame that none of The Smiths' bass lines ever feature in these sorts of videos. Andy Rourke is very talented
Arran Partridge
This Charming Man has an amazing bassline for example
A) you’re bang on, there was so much more to them than the godlike guitar playing and lyrical genius of Johnny and Morrissey, and
B) please tell me you roll with the Alan Partridge references?
“Barbarism Begins At Home” is one of the greatest bass lines ever.
Excellent job, gentlemen! The bass player, however, should have put a nice crisp crease in his pants. Why? I like creases, that's why...
grandpa, I told you to stop using my computer...
Who creases jeans?
I do!
Bruce Wayne sure.. batman's grandpa ftw
+robert glenn Never tried it myself. Why do I really want to try it now? Thanks for putting crazy ideas into my head hahaha :)
All i can say is Wow, both are awesome drummer and bass😀😀😀😀
Amazing. Also love that you guys included death from above 1979
:o)
It's very difficult to play so much different riffs with so much tempo moves in a short time.
So they deserve a big applause.
For everyone complaining, I have an investment idea that may intrigue you. It's called a pair of headphones :)
Yeah, still too much low end, I can hear it fine on my headphones, but it still lacks mids and highs, play your bass through an amp, and then listen to this and you will hear the difference, the mix is all low end.
Actually plug your bass in next time.
Celtic Bird buy some good earphones
don't matter if you have 1000 $ earphones, you can't hear shit
ElWeonIdiota I have good headphones and believe me this is just a terrible mix
We Forgot Steve Productions what headphones?
Sony MDR7506
Wow, that would be so hard rolling into all those songs back to back and doing it as seamlessly as these two, great work guys!
Where is under pressure
Julio Profe agreed. Radio GaGa, I want to break free, Yes's Roundabout, Another brick in the wall were missing.
Vanilla Ice wouldn't give it back.
Switching from Joy Division to Motörhead to Rush on a single take is such a feat of mastery!!!
The volume on the bass should have been higher..
Lol is this thing on?
+shallowlord Probably to do with your speakers/headphones. If I listen through my laptop I hear pretty much nothing. On decent headphones it's perfectly fine.
+greyztone my speakers is perfectly fine
+shallowlord I wonder why you can't hear the bass then. It's clear and well mixed for me. Any louder would be unbalanced.
+shallowlord the problem for me is not enough top end
the bass guy is emotionless the whole time but the drummer, he gets fuckin into it. I love him!
becuz hes too concentrated trying not to fuckup
+samB yeah i guess your right
This is more like 100 of the best songs ever composed. Thanks for the awesome work. Especially loved to hear Orion in there. :)
It's called "A brief History"; not "Complete Anthology of Everything That Has Been Done Ever". Your favorite song is probably not on the list. Get over it.
Thank you haha everyone in the comments is complaining about their favorite songs not being in the list
All I hear is drums.
MegaMentholMan get better speakers or headphones :)
MegaMentholMan All I hear is Bass.
MegaMentholMan All I hear is the carpet.
+MegaMentholMan all i can hear is the drummer's eyes twitching
+bancika
It shouldnt be about getting better headphones or speakers, they couldve easily turned up the volume in editing, or just turn up the amp
So glad to see Taxman on here, the Beatles had some amazing bass lines.
I’m gonna say something positive, don’t kill me. He absolutely nailed Feel Good Inc.
Come together? Under Pressure? My Sharona? A kind of magic? Why??!!
Exactly.
Not groove. They are rock :p in the title mate
+Wonjae Gye good point. But still, discarding Under Pressure and Kind of Magic. You have to admit that My Sharona and come together are epic bass lines in the rock genre
rain and hey bulldog where are?
+Wonjae Gye but sunshine of your love on the list
Whatever you have done in this mix is marvellous!!! Its the first video featuring bass guitar as the focus where I can hear the bass. Actual deep bass, even through headphones.
That drummer is having the time of his life!
Is it just me or my computer, or can no one hear the guitar
Its not just you....I could barely hear it.
I hear it just fine.
Theirs guitar in this video?
At least the bass sounds good
Well if a bass is a guitar than wouldn't a guitar also be a bass?
Bravooo...to the drummer
100 different drum "riffs"? and a bit of bass
Don't know what the term is, sorry.
beats.......
Breaks
SaturnValleyGamer yes. Even with headphones it’s soft.
2 people to fire:
The sound guy
The bassist.
Peter Parker the best thing about this video is the drum sound, it's probably one of the best drum tunings i've heard
The drummer sucks too
🙏 Amen🙏
@@DannyGadish u tooooo!!!!!
Awesome! Amazing feat of rhythm section madness! Best video yet - no talking, all rocking.
Higher Ground by Red Hot Chili Peppers was released in 1989 (Mother's Milk album), not in 1991 (Blood Sugar Sex Magik album), :/
I was just about to comment that
+Manuel Estrada Yeah, by the way, the original song is by Stevie Wonder and was released in 1973 (Innervisions).
isn't it in Californication?
+Samuele Fontana no
+Eze KB Oh yeah, I forgot to put that, but thanks for the comentary!! :)
Good job!
All you people saying he's too quiet need to actually use some decent headphones or get a sub. Honestly. His volume is just fine
Bass should not be on a sub but on a regular bass speaker, those are two different categories, sub is the kick drum or synth bass, a real bass lives over sub (frequency wise) and has its own speaker type. They need some mid and treble in their mix, only low end also eliminates any tone whatsoever.
no its not.
he should red this and makr it louder beacuse its too low. had to turn it all the way up just to kinda hear it.
emotionzdepress I feel bad for people with garbage headphones/speakers.
emotionzdepress Bass guitars arent as loud as normal guitars. Idk why cause im not an expert
Bernard Usually bass guitars aren't very loud in most bands. But in solo sessions, the bass should be turned up for it to be heard. (By the way, there is no such thing as "normal" instruments. They all have different characteristics. Same as humans.)
He meant acoustic goldenbear. But it's just his audio not the instrument.
emotionzdepress You just have bad headphones that don't reproduce low notes well.
Kings of covers !!! …100 cool bass chops in one solid take with drums .. Well Done !! Also plenty of bass here loud and clear .. The mix is fine through my kit
No Tomorrow Never Knows?! That's an awesome groove, especially around 1966
Or Come Together?!
MrRockandRollx don't you worry! keep those suggestions coming. perhaps we'll have a vol. 2...
Don't forget Rain
thank you for including sleep
That transition from Ramble On to Moby Dick was fucking awesome!
Nice to see Nirvana's Krist Novoselic still has it. lol
it's not Krist you know...
hence, the "lol" at the end.:)
+Gibloski13 um, yes it is Krist
it's not
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krist_Novoselic
The Drummer's face during YYZ though
For a long distance I have seen Schism is coming.
I feel like this video is going to get a LOT of views
Seven Nation Army?. But pretty good!.
Seven nation army is not a bassline...
+JustTheDoctor Actually it is...
Yes it is.
buddinmaplestory It's really not. It's a guitar, with an octave pedal.
The White Stripes were just Jack and Meg, no bassist!
The "bassline" you hear is just Jack's guitar turned a octave down with a Whammy! ;)
I'm so glad you actually have Longview. Most people forget about it
Wow - great by both of you. How many takes? Fishbone, RHCP, Primus, RHCP in rapid succession must have been tough. Surprised you didn't stick Duran Duran Rio in there w/ John Taylor.
Thanks. It was more or less our first take. A few minutes into the initial take, a camera fell - so we started over.
well, bravo. I enjoyed watching it!!!
Royale elvis - fever is remarkable ;)
These guys skipped the 2 years of The Smiths bassline eargasms
the Smiths are trash
Aydin Matney Congrats
go back to /mu/
ScarrXIII i ain't a cow to mu -_-
underrated comment
One of the best bass instructional video’s.
BTW--lets not forget about how darn great this drummer is too!! :)
AMEN! his brothers are incredible guitarists as well
Really hard to ear the bass on external pc speakers.
totally understandable. Try using headphones (the low frequencies often get lost on computer external speakers for most music out there).
And so it is with headphones lol
marc najjar same thing with AKG headphones.
Nerabass The sound has no articulation to it.
marc najjar awesome suggestion, thanks. Switched to the Shure SE315 headphones, sounds great
I've heard that so many times that i find strange not hearing those transitions on the original songs
Pretty awesome, but surprised there wasn't Roundabout or Disco Inferno
Vol. 2, my friend ;-).
definitely open to suggestions...
marc najjar If you could somehow convince Paul Rudd to do a Rush riff video, that would be awesome. You had Gene Simmons stop by once, so how hard could that be? ;-)
marc najjar
no Phish in the 90s?
marc najjar How about So What by Miles Davis?
He did Heart Of The Sunrise, kinda not fair to do two songs from the same album.
Think this this is amazing. I don't know about the audio problems some folks seem to be having. The balance I'm getting is drums mostly right, bass mostly left. Quite a feat. Well done!
peace sells is a terrific bass riff.
Problem is that it's 0.5 steps down (Eb/D# tuning)
Trent Stines not a big difference or deal though. the bass is hardly audible throughout the video anyway.
Drop Lick Invest in some headphones if you can't hear it very well. Eb tuning is kinda recommended when playing "Peace Sells". Thanks, Dave Ellefson.
Trent Stines I think he means he could have shifted it to standard tuning and got away with it. I've played covers that were originally played a whole step down in standard tuning and they've been great.
Trent Stines it is actually tuned 1/4 of a step down
I had to turn the volume all the way up to here the bass
IT'S HEAR GOD DAMN IT
But it does sound good once you actually HEAR it
you nailed that AJFA bass tone here
Is it Me or does 0:51 Sound kinda Like "Walk" by Pantera?
+MickeyFoley0105 Oh my god Pantera was inspired by the Beach Boys that's hilarious
+MickeyFoley0105 Yeah, I can see how Beach Boys were a big influence on Pantera's style XD.
+MickeyFoley0105 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
jkajajajajjajajajaja
Havent you seen the video by This Exist saying that metal is fast or slowed down distorted surf rock? If not check it out
I like how theres a Bob Marley song at 4:20
2:50 Thank you for including this masterpiece. Thought that song had been forgotten.
