She hated walks, if you threw the ball- she would walk to it and lay down. No interest in physical activity whatsoever. All she wanted was her belly rubbed and food. Same Bella, same. Miss that big cuddle bug. RIP Bellatrix 1998-2012
My collie is like that, but goes on two modes: one is lazy and just wants cuddles, hates walks. The other mode is constantly running around the dog park nonstop or walking in circles around us to guard us.
our elkie was a nutcase for belly rubs, he'd do this awkward smile with just his front teeth and if you stopped petting him, he'd roll around and basically turn himself inside out until you started again lol
My cat Ruby has gotten used to the sounds as well. It’s made grooming her much easier. She used to fight like a demon when I put her in the tub. Now she just sits there. She gives me her resting demon face still. But she’s getting better.
I've bred elkhounds in Canada for 35 years(as well as judged them) and am now retired . I totally sympathize watching you bath the elkhound! Moose is a very nice quality elkhound with a gorgeous handsome head !
We had an Elkhound when I was little. She was the sweetest thing! Her name was Dusty. My parents never had another dog after she passed until my siblings and I were older and out of the house. I’m 45 now and after all these years, I still miss her.❤
Moose is definitely adorable. Poor fluffy boy was a little bit scared but still conducted himself like a gentleman. I want to give him loads of cuddles.
I love this comment, I also call all my animals my kids, I have 4 sons who think it's hilarious and joke that they don't remember play fighting with them when they were younger. ❤😊
Poor Moose was so anxious in the beginning 😢 I really like how his breed looks. They're used for hunting and are quite common here in Finland. Super dense coat helps them handle the winter cold 😊
Hi, swede here. Have you ever heard that these would be used for herding and guarding as well? I think this breed has been mixed up with swedish Västgötaspets, they look the same besides the difference in hight. And usage. Or maybe mixed up with finnish lapphund or vallhund 🤔
1:34 Funny thing about the name: There are no elks in Norway (or Scandinavia). Their original name is "Norsk elghund" (translation: Norwegian MOOSE-dog). They are used to hunt moose, even to this day.
@@katrinakollmann5265 No. European moose used to be called elk before the name was shanghaied for the species that currently use the name, they are not at all related though outside both being species of deer.
You answered the question forming in my: I thought the naming of moose and elk between Europe and the US/Canada is a bit confusing? (I’ve watched many wildlife shows since I was 5 and noticed the “elk” in say, Sweden, are what we refer to as “moose.”)
Another fun fact: Moose were the original Elks. Europeans called them elks, before the term was moved to second largest deer species as the common name because that is what colonists called wapitis(the native shawnee and cree language terms for them) when they saw them. So, technically, there are elks in norway, just depends on the language that you're using.

As the owner of a Norwegian elkhound. The pancake is pretty normal, same is grabbing with their nails. A lot of them also hates water with a passion! And elkhounds shed about twice a year. 6 months at at time. Poor boy, he was so scared at the start! The video reminded me of a Norwegian elkhound called Lady my aunt and uncle had back in the 80's/90's. Lady was a hunting dog and loved it... while also being the friendliest and cuddliest family pet imaginable. I miss that dog.
What a handsome boy. The colour of his coat looks so much brighter after you finished grooming him. I loved it when he was in the shower, and he reaches out sideways with his paw to push you back - " get behind me human! ". You must be so exhausted at the end of your workday.
I had neighbors once that had an Elkhound and he refused to be in the house at night after the temps dropped below 50 degrees F until they got warmer in the spring/summer when A/C was cooler than outdoors. I would let my dogs out in the winter and a pile of snow next to its doghouse would slowly stand and shake, seeing that never got old!
What a gorgeous boy. So well behaved despite being nervous. I really appreciate Vanessa giving information on the breeds she is working with, hopefully it helps inform people of breed characteristics when they are looking for a dog.
Yes they are so lovely! Just hugs and kisses all around! The only time they do not appreciate attention is when they need a bath😂 They look miserable during it and only treats can win them over afterwards😅
