- It's episode 343 and is it Saturn return or is it just us messing up our Zoloft schedule? This week Em brings us an amalgamation (or smorgasbord, if you will) of ghost stories from Yosemite National Park. Then Christine takes us to the open seas with the nearly unbelievable story of the sinking of the Costa Concordia Italian cruise ship. And just remember, you can't have vein surgery on your Saturn return... and that's why we drink!
Please excuse Christine's video cutting out mysteriously at the end of the video!
Seeing the troll hole in disarray was actually very therapeutic. My personal cave is looking very similar currently and I feel better knowing that it happens to the best of us.
“Fallen into a lifeboat on accident” I AM SAVING EM’S LAUGH AND MAKING IT MY RINGTONE!!!! Hahahahaha
Never heard a worse case of a man refusing to admit he’s wrong than Christine’s story today 😅
Idk why this doesn’t have a thousand people fighting for first comment…because it SHOULD. I love you both! Thanks for putting in so much work for us to be able to listen! Eva, resarchers… you guys too.. slowly curing my depression haha
i'll never understand why disaster stories aren't as popular as true crime. the past couple years i've been deep into plane crashes, shipwrecks, train wrecks, natural disasters, fires etc. imo these stories have so many more dimensions to humanity and overall more compelling than true crime.
I came prepared with sammiches in honor of Christine's cravings for european bread and cheese in the listener's episode
Me at beginning of cruise story “maybe I should go on a cruise…”
Me at the end of the story “never mind.”
I am living for the fact that the camera was on Em for pretty much all of Xtines story 💛👌😂
definitely one of the best parts of being an international listener is that i am fully awake and its afternoon when these wonderful eps are released so i can listen to them and give them my fullest energy and attention!
As a single parent who moved to Spain with a toddler and then moved back to canada, i appreciate christine not glorifying travel with a child under 10
The 😂😢
Christine, it isn't Saturn that's the problem, it's Mercury. It's in retrograde from Aug 23-Sept 14. Another great episode!
I was ganna say the same thing. Didn't know it was literally my birthday when it started 😂
This has been the absolute week from hell for myself and every single person I know. "Reeling" doesn't come close to the way it feels and I don't know why. My only guess is the Blue Supermoon is affecting the world more dramatically than it normally does. Truly awful
As always another great episode. Maybe you're in tailspins because we had a "Blue Moon" full moon at the end of August. It look so huge and bright. Working in schools I see lots of off the wall behaviour in and around full moons. Also late August, early September always ramps up my anxiety. School starting and the anniversaries of both my parents passing away gets my head in spins. I'm also reminded of why I never want to go on a cruise.
ATWWD finally got it’s first EEK!
I’ve been on two cruises in my life, both of them as a teen. I would love to go on another cruise as an adult because I have to imagine cruises would be a different experience as an adult. Note to self: look for little ducks and avoid pineapples
I've heard about the pineapples, but what are the ducks
@@ryanv1145 people hide little ducks all around the ship for other people to find
Christine saying she knows nothing about cruises but she knows all the cool cruiser lingo
More validation: August was a TERRIBLE month. You guys are not alone in feeling the "off"-ness of it all! Reeling is an excellent word for it.
August was the worst month of my life, and it was awful for so many friends as well. So you guys are not alone in feeling like something is off 😅😂
Good morning! What a wonderful way to start my lazy sunday! ❤ Lots of love from the Netherlands
PS yes something definitely feels off. Feelings confirmed.
sjehfjaiofaweoi the captain watched one too many pornos, "I accidentally fell into a lifeboat, I swear it wasn't on purpose! Also my captains uniform got ripped off during the fall and whaddya know my suit was right there on the way down!"
Can confirm it’s been a wonky week.
I made it through the whole pandemic without getting Covid and August 11 thought I had strep throat and it ended up being Covid! Myself, daughter, and 2 year old grandson all had it. 😢 The whole month of August sucked! Finally feeling better for September 🎉
I used to be a dancer for a cruise line (not carnival) and can confirm… Carnival is wild. There was always an ambulance in port going onto whatever carnival cruise ship we were docked next to.
If you want more hot gos from cruise ship life, I’m more than happy to spill the tea. Also lots of true crime can happen on cruise lines (ex: unfortunately a man murdered his wife on the ship I worked on. Pushed her off of their balcony, and also unfortunately a man jumped off the side of the ship). I have some crazy stories just from my 8 months working on a ship.
Okay, validating you guys. Three of us in the house have had tummy issues this week. Very unusual. Doesn't seem like a bug. We just keep getting tummy aches.
Came here specifically to say that yes, I’ve been feeling it too!! I’ve had a great few months & thought things were turning around for me but then this past week has been rough… I see you & I feel you… hopefully things will turn around and we’ll all be feeling much better soon
Also, you guys make me feel so seen for talking about your houses. My husband has ADHD and I’m autistic with ADHD and we struggle. It’s so refreshing to have people talk about it because its normal!!
I just keep adding things as I’m listening apparently, but there is a rocking camping chair that is amazing! RIO brand and it’s at Costco right now. I use it when I play Sims & it’s life changing. Not as compact, but still so good!
I just got back from my first cruise ever! It was in alaska! It was amazing! Soooo many whales and wildlife!!! 37 yo lol. Husband, 40, my mother, 62, daughter, 9 LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!!❤
Me going to Europe next year for the first time, and hearing Christine saying "I forgot the Euro Plug Adapters" 👁👄👁 Did NOT know that was a thing and your pain just saved me from future me's pain, THANK YOU
Ok...Em, I tried a London Fog for the first time today and I have a new favorite! OMG why isn't this the only drink they make?!
I feel seen. My partner and I are middle aged & neurodivergent, we live with four cats. It's never tidy. I often think of hiring cleaning help.
I am FEELING it 🥲
Guys it was the moon! If this was recirded the same week that the super moon happened then it must be that! I also felt off this whole week, people were crazier than usual too.
christine’s death cab shirt 🗣️
They do, in fact, make camping rocking chairs.
The mention of the after chat made me finally kick my butt into gear and subscribe to y’all on Patreon. Been watching y’all since 2020 so I’m excited to have new extra content to binge!!
Yessss!!! The vibes have been super whack this past week. Everybody's been feeling it.
I relisten to Beach Too Sandy episodes to fall asleep, and there's an episode (101) where Christine says her amazon was used to buy an episode of Below Deck... was it Em or Eva?! Is a mystery solved?
Em don’t spit on kilometres when you’re a 🇨🇦 at heart
Hahaha that moment where Em paused for a reaction on Yosemite 😂. And then after an awkward beat continued "..national park?" Also, I wanted to the join ranks of all the hordes of listeners who've said they've also had a weird / bad few weeks! I have too - after a few really good months. I'm not impressed 😅. But great episode! ❤
I feel something too. BUT Jupiter is starting to retrograde in Taurus which means we need to take extra notice of self care, extra need to rest and relax, and take extra notice in who we trust in our personal lives. (At least according to my astrology podcast I listen to).
I was thinking of this when Em talked about their mom's vacation booking abilities.
My mom had booked a cruise on the same route on a sister ship a few weeks or a month after the sinking of the Costa Concordia. The cruise passed by after a night of very rough weather. We passed by in silence.
Somehow this was not the first time my mom had booked a vacation that seemed to be a deathtrap.
This reminds me of the Sewol ferry tragedy, so many similarities in the captain doing everything wrong! Y’all should definitely cover it
About the creapers. I met my now wife in July of 2010. In Aug. She had a work trip to Yosemite. A lot of my family lives up there so I went to visit her. But I left from there kinda late. There was no open hotels. So, I pulled over in an empty parking lot in Yosemite to sleep a little before heading back down. I put my sun visor up and covered my driver window just to have privacy while I slept in my car. I couldn't sleep because I felt like there were "tree ppl" watching me. I'm not that kinda person to just make it up. But I couldn't explain it felt like ppl were watching me from the tall trees. It creeped me out so bad that I took my chances and just drove back home (3hr drive). I'll never forget it!
I love the part about not wanting to say that it may be haunted due to burial grounds!!! My grandfathers were chief Bullchild and chief two guns whitecalf of the Blackfeet tribe and I’ve always felt so off whenever I’d hear people say this. It’s such a common cliche and I feel that it really gives our religious and spiritual views a bad spin also! Whenever me and my mom would here someone say this we’d always roll our eyes to be honest. I’ve been listening to you guys for at least 3 years now, Much respect as always for this podcast❤
Hear* omg embarrassing 😅
My bestie in Las Vegas used to come in “Kramer” style lol I miss it so much.
I haven't listened to any episodes in a while because life got busy but now I feel like it's Christmas because I can listen and listen and listen to my heart's desire. So happy to be back, say hi to lemon for me.
Congrats on 66.6 k subscribers 🎉
Fun fact the term "POSH" is an acronym of Port side out, Starboard home. Which was a way to remind ladies traveling to India from Britain which side of the ship to safely sit on deck to avoid too much exposure to the sun!
Em: "Beverigino San paligrino! Yeah now that sounds like a curse."
Christine: "Mhm I feel like you're cursing me now."
I love it 😂😂❤❤
Give these ladie a thumbs up! They knock this shit out of the park!
Literally have been counting down the days to my cruise in like two weeks. I feel very seen right now 😂
3:24 Aaaaaabsolutely feeling it. I’ve also accumulated a dust layer and piling system… I feel seen
if i am ever on a ship and the power goes out, i am losing my shit. just confirms my fear of cruise ships.
Christine same tummy troubles for same reasons! I feel seen.❤
Saturday or Sunday is my cleaning day! I feel your pain Em. It takes me at least 2 hours to clean our apartment and with an autoimmune condition it's exhausting
Oh man. I remember the Costa Cruises sinking. There was so much drama about the captain and Carnival. I remember seeing the bottle bounce off on the news so many times.
Pretty sure Carnival is also one of the companies with the worst impact to the environment so... I'm on Em's side there.
Thank you for normalizing messy houses 🤌🏻
My daughter’s go to a daycare and it’s a married couple named Mr. Rick and Mrs. Vicki!! How cool
Christine picking up a random shirt she was sitting on is my life.
I’m definitely feeling the weird atmospheric mood change
Blood Orange San Pellegrino's are the best!
I was born on Friday the 13th during the full moon. They're always lucky days for me, so sad that wasn't the case for this ship!
I went on a cruise with my now husband, his mom, and his sister when we had only been together for like 5 months. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!! My MIL is super into cruises so hopefully there are more cruises in my future. But it was scary cause it was the dawn of Covid and the same week we were on our cruise, a cruise ship in Japan got quarantined for two weeks.
1:33:40
something has been off for over a week now!! and it seems that way for the people around me too.
but hearing your voices helps!!❤
There has definitely been a huge energy shift. I've been feeling it for sure.
The nightcrawler look rly tall. Like depending what kind of road or pathway they are walking down ...idk the length of their legs compared to the surroundings
Christine's story reminds me of the Sewol ferry tragedy. Just insane.
Well I was diagnosed with a MRSA infection this August and I am still recovering so yeah reeling feels appropriate
I love cruising. Since COVID my husband doesn't want to. I've almost convinced him to go back to Alaska.
Great episode. Trying youtube again... wondering why we see Em so much while Christine is talking towards the end of her story? It never switches back to her. Did the video fail or something? 🤔
+
Chistens story reminds a lot of the Sewol ferry disaster in South Korea. She should cover that if she hasn't already!
You should submit it on our website! andthatswhywedrink.com/contact
the child abductions sound like fae behavior 🤔🤔🤔
There is a town in madera county (county at the bottom of yosemite) called ahwahnee
Wooo I’m early hehe
It's totally not just you. I'm feeling the same. Tailspin definitely
also had a shitty week last week! me and my ex broke up, my friend ripped her bumper off on accident and just so much more. so you’re definitely not alone. also i hate this captain like who allowed him to be the captain. just so many mistakes, hard to not want to just scream into the void over it lol
I’m doing almost the exact same Europe route as Christine (Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin) next summer!! Hope she shares some places she went to on IG
6:51 I’m getting a weird sense of reassurance about them both being bad at cleaning. I have no desire to clean and my mom gets on me all the time about not cleaning…mind you I live alone and she still gets on me 😪
Hi guys! ❤
August sucked so much. Y’all are not alone.
Mercury is in retrograde yet again 🙃
I wonder if Christine was crying at the end and that’s why it stayed on Em. It be understandable, that story was a doozy😢
As someone who has a 2007 Volvo, that’s a V8. I am looking to get out of one, thank you tho😂
Mercury is retrograde until September 14
Poor Saturn taking all the heat for it
Actually 5 other planets are supposed to be retrograde as well. Saturn return happens every 30 years for everyone. It happens 2-3 times in everyones lifetime.
After hours❤
Maybe I missed it, but is the Concordia still underwater or was it "salvaged" ?
It was salvaged!
Sometimes even when Christine is talking the camera doesn't focus on her. It seems like zoom is picking favorites 😅
Haha that looks like my room
What’s a bridge? Clearly not Trekkies 🖖🏻
Mercury is currently in the microwave
