That's a lot of work to replace a couple of sensors. Showing the proper removal and reinstallation of the components is so important to get everything back to its original place. As you stated leaving a ground bolt out would cause a lot of problems thanks great video Jim

I know this was a year ago but hoping you can give me some advice. A month or so all of my coolant shot out of my engine via the water pump and my engine overheated. I let it cool down and started it back up, no issues (was worried I blew a head gasket or damaged something). I went ahead and replaced the water pump, timing belt and tensioner. A week or so later I started getting a p0330 and p0325 code "Knock sensor 1 and knock sensor 2" code at the same time. I went ahead and followed your video, replaced both knock sensors and the harness, checked the connections, protected them with dielectric grease, I cleared the codes and they came right back after going about a mile down the road. I went to some forums and some people mentioned grounds on the ECU that crack and up causing issues with the knock sensors so I took that out and reflowed the solder on those points, still the same issue. I'm at a loss of what to do at this point, I suppose I could replace my ECU but I don't know if that's going to resolve anything and I hate guessing. Any tips?

Still having knock sensor bank 2 code 0330 and engine drops to limp mode. Yes had work done. Aside from sensors, throttle body gasket set, spark plugs, fuel system cleaning, valve cover gasket set…very pissed off at this point

Are there any other items you should change or replace since you've taken so much apart?
I'm a DIYer and I did this job in 2020 on a friend's 2001 Highlander. While I was in there I replaced that large diameter coolant hose that sits in the middle of the valley because it was old and kind of hard and I didn't want it leaking later down the road. Because the valve covers were leaking some oil, I replaced the valve cover gaskets. Since the manifold was off, now was the time to get to the rear valve cover easily. I also replace the spark plugs since there was easy access to the rear three plugs. It was optional but I replaced the PCV valve since it was slightly easier to get to with everything apart. Because you have to remove the fuel injectors and rails, I took that opportunity to replace all of the rubber o-rings that seal the injectors. I also unbolted the throttle body and cleaned it. I'm not saying you need to do all these things but that's what I did.
Unrelated to that job I did a timing belt job at the same time. New belt, pulleys, tensioner, water pump, cam and crank seals and engine belts.
Hi dont know if you monitor this recently, but question do you need to drain both radiator and block of coolant?

What is the mileage of the car at the time of failure? Just curious to know how long they last.
Mine is an 03 with 360,000 kilometers just failed. Found out because my transmission wouldn't shift Into overdrive. The computer does this to minimize knock. Top gear pits the most stress on the engine.
@@sturomain would it shift up to 3rd gear only and restrict speed? Is that what not shifting into override is?
I'm getting a code for knock sensor and this last described symptom.

Yes my 03 highlander would only shift 1..2..3..relpaced knock sensors 2 of them and now it shifts perfect through all 4 gears. 2003 highlander was the last year with the 4 speed auto transmission
