I know this is 3 years old but I just came across this. If this drop out came from either a 4th gen up to 09 or fj 07-09 it’s still the 8”. Fj cruisers and 4Runners 2010 and up until I think 2015 will be the 8.2 diff which everyone that upgrades to the 8.2 e locker has to swap in the entire axle then because the 8.2 won’t fit the 8” housing. Can you confirm what year this e locker came from? Thanks for the in depth video
Great video bro! I saved it to my watch later playlist. I will get a Lexus GX470 or a 4Runner 4th gen fairy soon and definitely will start doing mods on those things. I will either go with a Eaton TrueTrac or a E-Locker. And last but not least, thanks you for being a patriotic American🇺🇸! I see American flags and Israel flags in your videos regardless of medias & internet leftist pressures! I’m Subscribed to your channel!
Sorry if I don’t make any sense but I was wondering if you had to re gear the front diff to keep the front and rear gears balanced? If that makes any sense! Any help would be appreciated!
That really is a loaded question. E-locker is probably more expensive but its more daily driver friendly. Mechanically they are both involved to install, lunch box you still have to check back lash and everything related to installing new gears because it all has to come out and go back in. But theres wiring too with the e-locker...... that didnt really help lol
I called the larger diff "8.4" in the video, its actually 8.2.

Thanks for watching and subscribing! Good luck finding a rig, ‘Mercia!
Awesome I can't wait for more videos of this I would like to add rear lockers on mine as well...
Coming soon!
Hoping to put an E locker on my Bronco. It should work the same!! Nice looking 4runner!.
Cool, Id be interested to hear which unit you go with. Thanks for watching
I would like to do this to the ADD and transfer case actuator on my 4th gen 4runnner.
Where do I find that button to make the lock work?
Great info!
Thanks!

Yes you have to have matching gears, it gets talked about in one of the videos in this series
You could control the turning on and off with an ESP32 in the dash somewheres. Then just get the FJ button and slap that in there.
I dont know what an ESP32 is but now I really want to.... email me please.
@@HawkeyeSkunkWorks I can do a little mockup, that sensor on the diff gives you a high or low signal when the locker is fully engaged right?
If your changing diff ratio and have a front drive differential you will need to change that gearing as well
DJMecanix yep, better watch some more of my videos 😉
What is the best for light offroad use between e locker and automatic locker like lunchbox locker?

Thanks for the information 👍
But had a question will a 3rd gen 4runner diff fit a 4th gen ? To my knowledge there both 8" diff's
Yes, but they dont have any overlapping gear ratios so youll have to re-gear.
hi boss excellent project. my question can i take a rear differential from fj cruiser and mount it on my 4runner v6, is the ratio the same 373? thanks
depends on the years, they both were offered in that ratio so its just a matter of matching it up
Thank you for this - work for 5th gen?
This is a different axle/diff. 5th gen your your honestly better better the Eaton(I think….) e-locker. $$$$$
I have a 4th gen. 05. It’s not 4x4. Will the FJ diff fit?
I "think" so but I cant say for sure.
Hawkeye Garage ok. Tnks. I’ll be searching for one. And let you know if it fits. 👍🏽
Why 4runner over fj? 4th gen ive been looking into buying one of them for a daily
Would you buy a fj if you could trade? What stopped you from getting fj
The back doors are not great for a daily driver and small kids and the cargo space is less
@@HawkeyeSkunkWorks that makes sense, hows it holding up to the miles?
Is that locker a rechargeable 20volt?
haha took me a sec....
Have you made the installation (video 2) yet?
yes theres 2 more parts
Why not to change the whole differential?
Does not fit?
But I am changing the whole diff.....
Do you know the diff from a 2008 fj cruiser works? I have a 03 v8 4wd 4th gen 4runner
Yes, 08 is still an 8"
Are you gonna change gearing in front diff
Brian85578 yep, I’ve had that diff for awhile. Entire front end rebuild too.
Can these be installed on a 2wd model or no...
Not sure. You 2wd guys....... lol
does this have problems with the v8?
Both use the same rear axle
Was it worth it?
IDK, never got to use it before the accident
where'd you find the diff? looking to do this same mod
Lots and lots of time searching on car-part.com
