Idk why you would risk HELLA $ in a legal battle (which you could lose) just to make a lateral move and be making the same $. They know where they’re going, it’s not the BIG12

    32 Team Big 12. ND,Stanford,FSU,Clemson and 4 pods of 8 teams each. Hear me out.
    Yormark sells the deal to Private Equity, TV Networks etc that the following 32 teams are worth more than the smaller SEC and Big Ten conferences and will draw more eyeballs all over the country. This convinces Notre Dame, FSU, Clemson, that they can get more money and have a better path to the playoff than joining the SEC or Big Ten. They would be big fish in a medium size pond in the big 12, rather than being lost in the shuffle with the Big Ten or SEC. Stretching from the East Coast to the West Coast with great rivalry matchups and regional travel for olympic sports.

      I’m sure FSU and Clemson will get a little more, but it won’t be to the extent of SEC/B1G. I would still move to the B12 if that’s their only option if somehow they can escape grant of rights, because B12 can still negotiate contract and probably push 33 million to 38 million per school pay out plus all the other revenues. Currently B12 is projected to make 45-55 million while B1G is projected 85 million and sec 75 million. I can see fsu/clemson getting an additional 5-10 million and B12 contract renews half a decade before ACC, so it’ll be a future investment.

    I understand the need for any business to be growing, or they will be dying. But I fail to see the upside of larger and fewer conferences. The Pac 12 failed to grow, and they died, but college sports were more interesting with a large regional conference, including one on the West Coast.

    • @tarheel7406
      @tarheel7406 Місяць тому

      The PAC footprint waned in value, and the PAC failed to recognize it had fallen to Tier 2. That's why the PAC died.

  • @aawagner011
    @aawagner011 Місяць тому +3

    I was surprised to see no discussion about grant of rights. While your talk about CU/FSU going to the SEC due to ESPN overlap between conferences is logical, it fails to recognize that the ACC owns their media rights through 2036 because the schools granted it to them. So the ACC owns their TV rights and can assign them to their media partners and pays out its member institutions the TV revenues. But if they move conferences, they will be in violation of their GOR and will not receive a payout. Nor can they resell their rights to another media partner (ie Fox if they went to the B1G) because they don’t own their own rights, the ACC does. Maybe there will come a breaking point where the cost to buy back their rights outweighs the long term loss of future revenue. Also, there is little incentive for ESPN to aid in the move because they’re currently paying them below market compared to what they’d be worth in the SEC. I think the SEC and B1G could be interested long term, but not while they have the albatross of a contract for the next 12 years. It’s not worth the legal battle for either of those conferences when I don’t think they’d make the TV contract that much bigger to begin with. Yes, the TV contract “pie” if you will would get bigger if they joined the SEC or B1G, but I don’t think it’s to the point where the per school payout would be any bigger, and that’s the main sticking point. If you aren’t adding value, then what’s the point? I think the lone college property out there that would add value to the SEC or the B1G is Notre Dame. The others either keep it consistent or probably diminish the overall value. Now Clemson or FSU adding value to the Big 12 is another story, but I think they have equally the same issue of getting out of their 12 year GOR with the ACC to make any deals.

    • @DavidM442
      @DavidM442 Місяць тому

      Rumor is that ESPN is writing an amendment to the GOR and Media contract so teams can leave. Of course the important part is the details and we do not know the details.

    • @505premoto
      @505premoto Місяць тому +1

      The EPSN contract expires in 2027 unless ESPN renews and if they don’t, the GOR goes with it. But the biggest problem for the ACC is what the definition of certain words is. Either one or both judges out of state could rule against the ACC and both schools could leave for maybe $80m each.
      Secondly, FSU earns more for the ACC than all but maybe three or four schools in the B1G earn. They are one of the most profitable teams in the country.

    Would Clemson and FSU prefer the Big 12 as the first option, no. However, if the Notre dame and Stanford rumors to the Big 10 have any validity, bet your bottom dollar they will hold out for the holy grail of realignment in Notre Dame. Also, if the rumblings are true about the SEC prefering to have UNC and UVA for new markets, there is a possibility Clemson and FSU could be on the outside looking in on the P2.
    If they did come to the Big 12, it wouldn't be a lateral move. We just added the 4 corner schools, and with FSU and Clemson, our CFP revenue would go up, and our media deal rolls around in 2030-2031. Would it be SEC or Big 10 money? No. But they would most likely bring a media payout of around 60m per school, without all the other pay outs added in, which is alot better than what they have in the ACC. Not to mention, the Big 12 is a more competitive league as a whole than the ACC, so your wins look better and playing a Big 12 schedule as an FSU and Clemson probably gets you in the CFP alot more often than playing a Big 10 or SEC schedule. I dont think it would be a bad place for them. The Big 12 has great fanbases and culture I think both institutions would grow to like being in the league if it ended up being their only option.

      @Goeers206 Місяць тому

      @tarheel7406 No, they wouldn't. Is that why Texas and OU are in the SEC now because they were depreciated by being in the Big 12? You just always view things from the past. We are not in the 1980s anymore, Clemson has carried the ACC, and outside them, ACC football has been down all the way around. Since 1998, against all P4 conferences, the Big 12 has a winning record of 210-207. They only have head to head losses against the SEC. The Big 12 has head to head wins over the Big 10, Pac, and ACC. The ACC has a losing record against the Big 12, Pac, SEC, and Big 10 with 256-314. They are the worst P4 football conference, Clemson isn't the whole ACC.
      Since the portal changes and NIL, the Big 12 has more tournament bids than the ACC and 2 national titles, the ACC has 1 and fewer tournament bids. The Big 12 has a winning record in head to heads against all P4 conferences with 38-31. The ACC has a losing record 34-56.
      For the last 5 years, the Big 12 has a winning bowl record of 22-13, and the ACC has a losing record 21-28. The ACC has played 14 more bowl games and still has fewer wins.
      No one watches collegiate sports for academics. They watch it for the quality of the product on the field or court. The Big 12 does that vastly better than the ACC. Can't argue the stats. The ACC is abysmal without FSU and Clemson.

      Don't let your heart override your brain. The SEC is by far the better choice for Florida State. I say this as a 42-year-old fan, 20-year-old booster, and a member of the battles end. So trust me those that care the most want the SEC. It's better for Tallahassee. It's better for the university. And everybody makes more money because our football team will be competing and competing very well in the best football conference in the nation.
      I was mad too. I absolutely hated what happened. I was at the ACC Championship game and then went to a restaurant sitting at the bar eating breakfast watching the selection show and almost threw up my food when we were not selected. It was devastating. But calmer heads must prevail even mine.
      The SEC has 16 national championships in the last 20 years or so. The Big Ten has three. I would rather go to the conference of champions.

    Of course they run from comp. Big 12 is damn near a G5 with no UT or OU. Ok st is above average, but no other top tier programs.

    Sorry - unimpressed with reporting and commentary. Go watch John Kurtz, Greg Flugaur, or Big XII Mafia. The Dellinger scoop on the convos came from Kurtz.
