    Hello!
There are more or less only 3 known weak points on the XRV 750
    1. the voltage regulator and some cheap connectors
    2. the sparks on the mitsubishi fuel pump
    3. ghost display and a rotten rubber sealing
    4. the Transmission output shaft (DO NOT USE CHEAP PINIONS with too much freeplay)
The only problem with the damaged CDI's (from high voltage) is caused by some cheap connectors. They will get some corrosion (Rust) what will cause a higher resistance an the loss of the needed voltage into the 3-phased current voltage-regulator!
After that, the voltage regulator "thinks" there is to less voltage and regulates the voltage higher...Result is known: burned lamps, killed cdi....
I removed those cheap connectors from the electrical generator, solded it together and sealed it with a good heat shrink tubing! Thats it!
Keep the voltage regulator cool by using an aditional alu-cooling plate in combination with some electronics heat transfer grease for high power semiconductors.
Combined with the "spark" eliminating diode on the contact plate, there are no more electrical weaknesses on the RD07!
Also the ghost display on the trip master is easy to handle if you can work with a small solder iron! Do not forget a new sealing...
Mine is 2001...with 149575 km! First owner - last owner!

The 5 times Dakar winner was the NXR 750, ad hoc bike. The AT 650 (or RD03) was inspired from that, it is not the same.
But especially for the engine it was a success at first shot. It is a bit difficult to put your hands on it though. Compared for example to the RD07A I also own, very like your RD07, whose components are better spread on a larger chassis.
The weak spots are easily surmountable as mentioned in previous comments, and largely documented online too
If you don't like the idea of messing up with diodes in the fuel pump, stick a Facet fuel pump. They last usually +50k mls and never miss a bit.
Don't also forget a Mofset R/R (they are great), and to solder directly cables to it; as you said, the current generated by the alternator is heavy to burn any connector and the R/R (and then battery!) if not good.
With these little changes it is bullet proof bike. My RD07A is approaching 160k miles.

Re: fuel pump - the issue is a spark jumping the "points" inside the pump, this 'wears it out'. Cheap and simple fix - solder a small diode across gap and it'll be good forever (mine has 135,000 miles). or fit a Facet Solid State Cube Fuel Pump.

Great off-road motorcycle but the best is the 650 Africa.

It's a really great machine, but, in my opinion, the best achieved is the RD04 🔥 It has better chassis (superior driving position and maneuverability), is more robust (bullet-proof frame and adjustable suspensions), sensors in the tank that provide fuel level information... RD04 is another category 👌

Put some Shinko 244's on that thing! I wonder how the new Transalp will compare to the old AT?

How do you get one of these in the states? I missed out on a transalp a few years ago I stumbled on on Craigslist. I have 2017 AT but this or the 650 has been my white whale...

Buying one in Europe is easy. But i did try and get a quote to get this one shipped to the u.s. and it's insane how much it is. After everything is about 4500-4000$. I'd love to find out how it can be done for cheap. I think one of the tricks is if you are in the armed forces you can get something shipped for free. I believe you want to get it shipped to Miami as well as it's a big port and not Canada.

@@VehicleHunter The price is starting to pick up quite fast in EU as well. I bought a 1991 RD04 XRV750 a month ago aswell found it quite cheap 3500€ they usually go for over 4000€ the RD04 and 07 both. Love it so far.
