I love seeing someone who has never heard these guys sing before. No instruments, just their voices, hands and feet. It is amazing what they can create with so little. In Hallelujah, it sounds like an entire choir and orchestra, but no, it is just these five super talented individuals. They have hundreds of songs to choose from, enjoy!
Well except when they do (rarely) use instruments. Case in point, their new release "Thank You", with BOTH Scott on piano and Kevin on cello. But yeah. Normally no instruments.
When you hear Pentatonix, then realize that they are completely a capella, you suddenly appreciate that sometimes we don't need those clanging guitars or loud horns. Just five people who make music the way it was originally made tens of thousands of years ago - voice and clapping hands.
It's a rare treat when music can bring tears to ones eyes. Pentatonix is one of those rare treats. Halleluiah is another of their songs that has this affect on me. Welcome to the world of PTX.
Pentatonix is not just an acapella group, they are THE ACAPELLA GROUP, setting the standard that all other acapella groups, past, present and future will be judged
I was in awe with you and I watched this a billion times. I love you. Your reaction was genuine as this song is. Everytime I watch their video I found something new like the bass from 4:36 to 4:50 is FIRE!!
Or Mary did you know, Thnak you, Sing, Happy now, Borhmian Rhapsody, First Noel, Little Drummed boy, White Winter Hymnal, or really basically just anything lol....
Thank you , this reaction is by far the best that I EVER saw , from ANY reactor out there . This is my favorite version of this song amazing grace . Great video . 🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦
You have now been bitten by the Pentatonix bug... there is no going back now. They are 5 amazing human beings who have the most angelic voices and bless us with their gift. They are all phenomenal artists in their own rights. They have just released their new Christmas album and yesterday they dropped the clip for 12 Days of Christmas which is absolutely amazing. Have a listen to their Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy which they won a Grammy for
great reaction!! This is how we all feel about this group. Their passion and talent are emotionally overwhelming. that why they have about 3 billion views of their videos and performances. Enjoy the ride, it's addicting
I have the feeling that whoever started the idea for the Sing Off didn’t know what they were starting! It’s still a small community but growing. Pentatonix, Home Free, Voice Play, Peter Hollens, Nota, all have sold out concerts (before the pandemic started) but they continue to produce songs thru the Internet with You Tube and Patreon for some very grateful fans. Am so thankful!
You have just experienced the very best in a capella. Try Hallelujah and Mary Did You Know, a couple of their originals, and a few of their Christmas songs. You will not be disappointed.
I'd definitely add Dance of the Sugar Plum Faries into the Christmas mix, since the arrangement was responsible for one of their three Grammy Awards. Also, White Winter Hymnal is just mesmerizing.
Loved your reaction to Pentatonix ❤️ Yes, they are amazing and you have over 200+ covers and originals to yet be amazed. Since it's Christmas 🎄 time may I suggest Hallelujah, Mary did you know, Oh come all ye faithful, Little Drummer Boy, and so many more awesome covers. Sound of Silence, Daft Punk, Bohemian Rhapsody, Gold, Havana, + more are great covers
Welcome to Pentatonix! Bless you Luv. This is a very powerful song for you to start off with. You will find serious songs and lighter songs. All good to listen to. Of course with Christmas coming, they have three Christmas albums to pick songs from. My favorite is “Mary Did You Know” and “What Christmas Means to Me”. The latter song is an original written by them and contains home videos from when each in the group were little kids. It’s precious. Again Welcome! Will be checking back with you often.💐💕
Watching you react to Pentatonix for the first time,, and it being a beautiful version of Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone was beautiful. I personally would describe it as watching someone experiencing a spiritual moment. With your reaction, watching your hands, their movements looked as if they were pulling the voices and words deep into your soul. Pentatonix is definitely one of the best A cappella groups today and have been for nearly a decade or so. Beautiful reaction.
Your gong to be ok... just enjoy it. Your reaction was stunning and pure. That’s what PTX does to you They start out slow then they hit you in the gut and heart when the open their mouths. They have 3 Grammys to their credit. So must hear are Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, Mary Did You Know, and Dance of the Sugar PlumFairies, (they won a Grammy for this).your channel is going to blow up. We the fans are called Pentaholic’s. Now you have that distinction .....enjoy..Judy D.
Ok, first you are a very beautiful woman, but when the spirit touched you through this amazing song and vocals, you had even more beauty. I love it when reactors let the music move them to emotion. Thank you, you made a subscriber out of me. I felt the spirit through.
Their voices transcend all lines and barriers. They truly sing in the spirit and we are transported. Try: Mary Did You Know and Hallelujah. For a change of pace, check out Bohemian Rhapsody
@@gregsteele806 oh i can totally understand about not seeing Avi. I saw him about four times and was blessed to see his second to last performance. The whole audience was in tears at the end
Here's a long info dump about Pentatonix since you're new to them Scott, the tall blonde guy, Mitch, the shorter guy with darker hair, and Kirstin, the only woman, have been best friends since high school, where they did musical theatre and choir together. In 2011, they joined a televised competition called "The Sing Off" and realized to have a real chance at winning, they needed to be more than a trio, in particular, they needed at bass singer and a beatboxer. That's when they met Avi (not in this video) and Kevin, the black guy that sang at the end of the song, Avi through a friend of a friend and Kevin through his own UA-cam channel, on which he was already pretty famous for his "cello boxing" where he beat boxes and plays his cello, named Beyoncé at the same time, Long story short they won the competition and got a record label deal with Sony, though Sony dropped them almost immediately afterwards because they thought acapella wouldn't sell well. So then PTX began their journey on UA-cam, racking up millions of views by covering many well known songs, as well as making their own awesome original music. Their compilation/cover called Daft Punk, was one of their best songs ever as it won them their first Grammy! They've since won two more and have redefined the a cappella genre! Things went like this all the way until 2017, when sadly, their bass singer Avi Kaplan, as mentioned earlier, had to leave the group because their fast paced touring lifestyle was too much for him and he wanted to spend more time with his family. So he left the group with no bad feelings and has since started an incredible solo music career. He also helped find the man that would take his place, Matt Sallee, who has been with this group ever since, the other 4 members have been together since the beginning. Quick recap of each member and their role in the songs Scott Hoying- tall blonde man, baritone, can sing high enough to match Mitch and Kirstin, but also can go low enough to cover the bass lines when Matt is singing a solo. He often appears to be the "lead singer" of the group because of his great versatility, though PTX constantly shifts the leaders of their songs according to which songs best fit which voices. Mitch Grassi- short haired white guy, High Tenor. Mitch's voice is simply angelic, there's no other way to put it, many times he will have you thinking there has to be more than one woman singing, but it's actually his gorgeously high and light voice. Kirstin Maldonado- the one woman, Soprano. Kirstin is a gourgeous woman who sings in an amazing high register and also sings well in songs that have her singing lower. Kevin Olusola- Beatboxer, Cellist, tenor. Kevin is undoubtedly the most talented member of the group, besides being a human drum set, he also is a very talented cello player, and has his own angelic tenor voice, especially when he goes into his falsetto, like this song. Avi Kaplan- bearded white guy, not in this video. Basso Profundo. Avi was with the group from 2011-2017, and his bass was simple incredible, his rich, warm tones making your very soul seem to jump out of you when he sang, especially when he went waaaaaaay down into the subharmonic range of notes. Matt Sallee- black guy shown first in the video, Bass. Mat has been with the group since Avi's departure in 2017, the only member change, despite not hitting quite as low of notes as Avi could, he's quickly become beloved by PTX fans due to the energy and just total happiness he brings to all PTX performances, especially the live concerts, he seems like he's just there to have a good time while everyone else is just serious and focusing on performing lol Hope this helped you get familiar with this group and I hope to see many more Pentatonix reactions from you in the future!
Your reaction is "priceless"! I appreciate that fact you don't stop to comment in the middle of the video (I find most commentators do that.. and quite annoying). You wait until the video is done to talk about your reaction. Very nice reaction video!
You will love them doing Mary Did You Know. That one was done a few years ago when they had a different bass singer, but as always with Pentatonix, it is a capella perfection.
Really enjoyed your reaction. I'll be watching for your next Pentatonix Reactions. Please check out their new original Christmas song, "Thank You." You're gonna LOVE it. Thanks
Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk), one for their "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), "Sound of Silence" (Simon and Garfunkel), and of course, any of their Christmas music. For Home Free may I recommend their "Man of Constant Sorrow", "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash), and my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement).
If you listen to any of their songs before 2017 or so, you will see a different (the original) bass. Avi Kaplan was one of the founding members of the group and left in 2017 (on very good terms) but not before helping them find a new bass (Matt Sallee). FYI - even though it may look like they have changed several other members, they haven't. The woman Kirstie and the high tenor with the sideburns, Mitch, just like to switch up their looks - a lot. The group started with the Sing Off Season 3 and have been blowing peoples' minds ever since.
You have opened a door to some amazing music. We Pentaholics welcome you. Please check out Home Free How great thou art... Another beautiful hymnal done by a five man A Capella group.
there is also a female group that was formed by some members of PTX and they are just as good you should try them they are called citizen queen and their covers of never enough and no more tears to cry check them out
Other songs you should check out: Hallelujah. Mary, Did You Know. Sound of Silence. Imagine. And then for a complete change of pace, Daft Punk... It will blow your mind!
Given your reaction you will want to look at the lists of Pentatonix music and do more discovery of these 5 (penta) beautiful voices(tonix). The addiction to their sound already has a name PENTAHOLICS. To suggest a few: Mary did you know, Hallelujah, all of their Christmas albums. But you really cannot find a bad song period.
Hi, Thank you for the reaction. PTX are great! If I could ask that you please make your voice a bit louder in the mix? It's difficult to make out what you're saying over the music. Thank you so much!
Beautiful reaction! Beware though, UA-cam is aggressive in blocking reaction videos to this group for copyright reasons so you may want to put in frequent pauses to avoid any issues...PTX fans are used to it so it won’t stop us from still clicking and liking :) ❤️
You should turn down the video's music down and turn your volume up. We want to hear what you have to say, and perhaps more importantly: Playing the video like that without pauses/talking over it is almost guaranteed to get your video copyright striked.
I don't know if you have listened to Pentatonix cover of John Lennon's song "Imagine" but if not you must react to it. Especially with what's going on in the world now.
You don't have to say anything. Your body language and expressions said it all. Not sure if you've done hallelujah yet but do check that out. Merry did you know is another really good 1 even though it's not Christmas time. They have a lot of I guess that are religious songs for their Christmas albums that they released every year. Just dive down the rabbit hole and if you keep doing PTX Reactions and us Pentaholic's will flock to you.
You really need to listen to Mitch hit the high notes. Like another comment, listen to Hallelujah and sound of silence. For something different try daft punk by them.
This song is a mix of two songs. Amazing Grace and My Chains are Gone. The reference is that a person who believes in God has their sins forgiven. (the sins being invisible chains that bind one and keep them from eternal life. The sins can be anything. Examples are: envy of others, hatred for another person, stealing from others, telling lies to others or yourself.) Once those “chains” are gone, you feel much lighter and blessed and able to follow God’s path for you.

Their 5 voices give such glorious sound and emotion....
