I've heard this aria 1000x. This is by far the best. She so explosive and emotive but its still technically perfect. This is what opera is about to me.
Without doubt the finest lyric soprano of the past 25 years. Not surprising Georg Solti was so taken by her voice and he was no stranger to great singers during his time as Musical Director of the R.O.H/London in the 1960's which was the golden age for opera.
her french is very good, she just colours her "a" and "è" because it is very difficult to sing. She sings it very beautifuly, very romantic, i love it !
when you have the stuff no need for clutch and grab over acting.... this is real talent....unlike one soprano at the Met who will go unnamed.... chest and overact was her repertoire
I actually like the wig.. but I don't love the performance. She seems like she's shouting in spots... it takes away from the lovely melody. That being said, she is a very talented singer and performer, and it's easy to criticize a video of someone when you chop just the aria apart, and put it on a little 3x5" screen, and through computer speakers! And it's easy to be picky when it's not YOU who's the one singing, from behind a computer!
fascinating, Angela Gheorghiu, but End of Februat we will see and listen to Cristina Pasaroiu as Micaela in Munich Staatsoper......... the new Star.... like in Hoffmann, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Boheme..... ....
I recently read that Ileana Cotrubas has coached Ms. Gheorghiu. I wonder why Angela likes to sing the sweet role of Michaela as is she were Aïda. She needs to listen to the recordings and performances of Ms. Cotrubas to learn how to sing this delicate, sweet and almost religious aria.
French is such a difficult language to sing. The vowels just don't cooperate with trying to fill a huge theater when you don't use much metal in your singing. But still, a very successful, multifaceted interpretation
i love her singing, but i feel like she could do so much more with the character and let go of her diaphragm. it's still a great performance, though! :-)
@Tristiano i don`t know why you would say slavic tones???!! romanian is the most latin language of them all by far. Before you post rubbish read more about people. romanians are latinos and romania is a latin country !
I was there…she stole the show, the audience went wild! amazing artist

I''m not usually an Angela fan but she nailed this one

An other interesting Michaëla is the other Romanian soprano L Vaduva. I have seen both on stage and they were excellent!

MastersoftheOpera : thank you for saying this, I am of the same opinion but I thought I was alone...
Who else was in the cast....I know Domingo was Don Jose but who were Carmen and Escamillo?
Waltraud Meier Sergei Leiferkus
Who’s conducting?

Pity the Carmen who had to follow that !

It`s a B natural :o)

HAHA, she had to wear that awful wig!!!!
her singing is almost perfect, her acting is horrible ... the DIVA in rags
She´s much more suited to Violetta
i love her singing, but i feel like she could do so much more with the character and let go of her diaphragm.
it's still a great performance, though! :-)
Rosanna cateri did it better
