Thank you and hope you found this tutorial on how to play chord inversions on piano useful. Please let us know how you get on with your chord inversion practice!
Wow this was a real light bulb moment for me with inversions! I can’t believe it. You are a genius. Thank you!
This is brilliant. I am so excited that I practice in my head a lot of the time. thank you for making sense out of inversions. 🙂
Merci for this. I watched this 5 months ago, and had forgotten about the changes of the 2, 3 and 6 chords. Great reminder. I've been doing this partially everyday, and it's getting easier. But I'm also trying to do this in root position, first and second inversion. You're correct, this isn't mastered overnight. Oh well, I'll take the time.
I've done lots of tutorials on chords and inversions, but at no stage has anyone mentioned that if they're moving up by a 4th, it's just a top two note movement. This is mind blowingly simple. Thank you!
Welcome to our little corner of the piano world, lovely to have you here with us on this musical journey!
Wonderful tutorial. Thank you!
You are absolutely amazing. So is your soothing, teaching voice. I’m hooked to these lessons!
You really are a treasure. Huge thanks.
This is brilliant, thanks Tom! It’s made all the difference in the world to understanding the why and how of inversions. On the strength this tutorial I’ve just ventured away from C major scale to explore inversions in other scales for the first time. Progress is painstakingly slow, but having seen it explained so carefully I can see that it’s doable. Also today I started to keep a practice log as suggested.
Awesome...everytime I see this video it gets BETTER AND MORE INSTRUCTIONAL and VALUABLE 🎉😅😅😅 THANK YOU SIR AND 🙏
Have been playing inversions but never thought of the I to IV voice leading like that. You certainly have my attention as I can follow your logic like no other video I’ve seen. Those little nuggets really opens up the “mystery “. Thank you.
I'm glad you've found this approach helpful, it is a nugget indeed! Inversions don't need to be a dark art!
awesome stuff Tom!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks George I hope this helps!
Truer words have never been spoken. This won't be mastered overnight.
But it does get easier if you practice it.
This is a great exercise, and it should also be practiced going down as well.
I've asked several piano professors about teaching piano scales. Everyone is taught to go from the root position and go up the keyboard. What would happen if someone is taught from the beginning to emphasise learning scales going down. The leading tone wouldn't be leading a tired traveller back to the tonic, but would be sending them on a new journey.
They haven't answered, deferring this to music theorists.
Asking for a friend.
Nice and easy 😊 thank you.
Most welcome 😊
Your lessons are so simple to understand. Thank you so much
You certainly have a lovely simple way of teaching, thank you!
Thank you Greg! Hope this tutorial was helpful!
This has opened one branch of my brain 🧠 🎉
i am in Vietnam. Thanks for your channel. It help me a lot.
Wow! Some of this I'd worked out myself but this takes it to another level
DEAR SIR: The more I practice the EASIER it get!!!!!!! thank you sooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!
Great job!
Great insight!
As a beginner and an engineer, learning by myself, i figured out straight that inversion logic as a far easier way for me to learn. Maybe you could have said that this chord logic flow can be found on the circle of 5th, as it is a good guideline for beginners (like me, lol). Thx again.
The circle of 5ths is a very useful tool to study, it also connects with the history of the Western tuning system, but even putting that aside, the fastest way to get results, is to teach your fingers not your intellect, and get these patterns in the muscle memory, a bit like playing sports. But seeing you are an engineer, and I teach many scientists and engineers, your learning profile would probably benefit from a bit more theory, as you will always be wanting to know "why" - a common trait in engineers :)) Why is important, as long as your remember to keep "doing it" - without questioning it!
you r my hero. thanks
Thanks for showing the chord inversions!
Thank you for watching!
Great video tutorial! Chord inversions aren't as confusing as I thought. Cheers!
Many thanks Adriana!
@@contemporaryschoolofpiano Bonjour. Vidéo très intéressante. Je me demande quelles position d’accords choisir pour m’accompagner en chantant. Je privilégie les positions dont la note la plus haute correspond à la mélodie ou…la tierce ou la basse? Dilemme pour moi…merci de me répondre😊
thank you this was great!!
Thanks David hope you found it useful
Thanks a lot. Great exercises!!!
Can you , please support this useful exercises with original musical extras from different styles?
Hi Elena, Yes are currently producing more videos that show a variety of musical styles, watch this space! In the meantime have you seen the Amazing Grace videos played in 3 different styles. www.contemporaryschoolofpiano.com
Nice job! ⚡
Thank you Mike!
Oi
This tutorial is pretty much useless as one can't see which keys are played due to the lack of contrast in the white keys. A digital simulation keyboard on top should be added.
