Wow..My time on the Blvd was 1962-1965. Some great memories. Including getting my cherry popped one block off Van Nuys Blvd in the back seat of my 1957 Chevy. I will never forget that moment as The 4 Seasons hit song played on my car radio, "Oh What a Night". And what a night it was. Thanks for the memories. Memories like that are priceless at my age.

Dude, you are writing history! Think about it, people are going to be able to watch your videos many, many years from now, even after you're long gone off this planet. It's truly important work you're doing, especially how you tell the lesser known stories. For instance, about the dog park where they had the carnivals, and things like that. It really paints a picture and conveys the culture during the times you were a child, teenager...and now as an adult. Love the older pictures and vintage footage you also include. Great job, all very clever and interesting. Thank you so much for your awesome work! You clearly enjoy doing it which makes it even more fun to watch. 👏💫

Great memories brought back from your video. Grew up in the Valley. First in Sherman Oaks on Greenleaf Street. I went to Sherman Oaks Elementary. Then we moved to Peach Avenue where my brother and I attended Selma Elementay. And then moved to Lemona Avenue right across from Van Nuys High School, where we went to Robert Fulton Jr. High and Van Nuys High School, respectfully, all in the span of about 20 years. Val Surf actually had three locations on that same corner. The second one was on the NW corner in a strip mall. Happy to say I bought many things at all three. The Richards brothers were great people and I skated with their team a bit through the years. Well, my mom bought us lots of goodies from the first two. Great childhood memories into adolescence, and young adulthood. Cruising nights on Wednesdays were incredible. We had our own skateboard spot at Bank of America. Thank you for the cool video.

My grandparents bought a plot on Hazeltine and Sherman way back in '28. Built a house and raised a family, my mom and her sisters.
Then WWII came and Papa had my mom and the girls run our electrical shop, Scott Electric on Van nuys bl. Where an adult lingerie/porn store sits today.
I have some of the best photos of the van nuys area. An avocado tree was planted in the yard on the day I was born back in 64. And for 50 years, wherever I was i would make a trip to Grans House and fill 3 laundry baskets full and make holiday gift baskets full of the Cali green gold as we called em.
I grew up there and in the SCV.

My 1st. car was a 1959 Bug and I got it for my 16th B-day. A lot of work and a 2110cc engine, one Saturday night I felt like being bad so off to The Blvd I went. I was amazed and awe struck. After making some new friends with VW's and a year later We were the "V-Dubs of So. Cal.". We would go to Malibu Grand Prix, the Slider Go-Kart track next door and we even saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High at the Winnetka Drive In about 15 times in the Summer of 1983. GOOD TIMES. I surely remember The Recycler! A roommate of mine worked there, and an older lady called wanting to give her deceased husband's car away. He got the car, for free. I remember sitting in it, it was a 1961 Chrysler that was in great shape.
There was also a Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor at the SW corner of Devonshire and Reseda, that I would go to. Zody's was in that same shopping center, as well. I used to call them "Zonkies" (in reference to getting a zonkie prize on "Let's Make a Deal" TV show with Monty Hall that was filmed at the NBC Studios at Pass Ave. and the 101 freeway in Burbank).

In the late 69s early 70s there would be up to 1500 cars on VNB on Wed night, club night. But they came from all over LA and not all at the same time. From Bob's to Oscars at Saticoy and back again. Many went down to June Ellen's as well. I became a legend on VNB as the guy who was hit from behind at 60 mph by a drunk at Kittridge and VN in front of Butler Bros. and was basically untouched. The police were trying to stop him at the time and they are the ones to "certify" his speed.

Remember that Farrells in 70's. After Hollywood High Friday night football games, those who were at the game would go to Farrells. Our biggest rivals in 1970's was North Hollywood High. Their school was not that far from Farrells. I remember cruising Van Nuys. If you had a fast car or hot rod, you would cruise Van Nuys. An occasional low riders would cruise it. Most of the low riders cruised Whitter Blvd. Everybody cruised Hollywood Blvd. I don't live in LA anymore. Is Van Nuys Blvd a place to cruise? Love these video.

Great video! Many great memories, I remember Val Surf. I worked for Ernie Tanaka in his surfboard shop on Van Nuys Blvd. Just north of Riverside Dr. I was 11 or 12 at the time. That job was so cool. Maybe some remember Matt & Tony's subs on Victory across from Victory Drive In ? Soooo good! I've still got there business card with menu on the back, prices range from $.85 whole sub to $.65 for a half. 👍

Any 80’s OG club kids out there that went to both Phases and Hot Trax? Hot Trax was on Van Nuys Blvd. Most of the teenage hooligans those days went to both (don’t ask me how I know 🤣); until Hot Trax had a shooting outside and closed down I think around 1987. Dance clubs and weekly house parties were the epitome of being a teenager in the Valley in the 80’s. Good times!!! Thanks so much for these videos!

Watching your videos I’m learning more and more that The Valley wasn’t all that different from a lot of places in the west. As a kid of the 80’s we had SoCal constantly shoved down our throats and thought it was THE place. Your experiences don’t sound all that different from mine and most dudes I grew up with. Of course no one made movies about where we lived and we didn’t have world class skateboarders on every block. But we cruised, had birthday parties at Farrell’s, hung out at the mall, bought tapes at Record Warehouse and partied in undisclosed locations. The more I watch your videos and hear your experiences, they sound a lot like mine and my friends who grew up in various cities and states.
As a horror fan I would love to see location videos if Night of the Comet and They Live. Keep em coming!

Love the walk down memory lane! I do remember the “Keys on Van Nuys” jingle, to call it annoying is an understatement. Equally as annoying, but with a lot more charm, were the Cal Worthington commercials. If you could see your way to including a couple of them in a future video that would be really cool. I know it’s technically not SFV, but we sure saw them a bunch there!
