I was at every one of those Van Nuys Cruise nights back in 2009...such a shame that it ended because the Rydell parking lot sold and there arent any other spots for people to park and hang out now and also a few idiots screwed it up with the cops.....thanks for sharing this footage! :)
I prefer American Muscle Cars to be factory stock with no modifications! Some nice looking cars here! I actually visited and cruised Van Nuys Blvd in 1980. From what I remember, it wasn’t a very long cruise strip. My favorite cruising street was the famous Archer Avenue on Chicago’s Southwest Side. Some serious American muscle cars there! Great memories! The Police shut down cruising in 1991.
The Chevy dealer was at Oxnard street and VN blvd. It was PWR for years and now I think it keys. I cruised it in the 60's, from Bob's on Sepulveda in MIssion Hills to the AW on Ventura Blvd

Grew up in the Valley, graduated from Taft High School. Wednesday's was cruise night on Van Nuys Blvd., between Victory Blvd. and Roscoe Blvd. about 4 miles, There were several other places where young people would gather during the summer nights in the Valley. One such place was in the west Valley, at the time known as Highlander Park, west of Platt Ave., south of Sherman Way. Today known as Mae Boyar Recreation Center. One night the LAPD arrived to enforce the 10:00pm curfew. Police helicopters were a new concept at the time, they were the bubble front (MASH) type choppers with a very bright search light. As the police lined up their cars (10-15) in a line a breast to drive through the park forcing everyone out. About 15 - 20 people layed down on the ground spelling out "F--k you" for the helicopter and the search light. When the search light lit them up, everyone went crazy laughing and screaming. It was great! Gas was about .35 cents a gallon, cigarettes were .36 cents a pack over the counter and .50 cents out of a machine. A six-pack of 16oz. Budwieser was about $2.00. A four finger "lid" (ounce) of Acapulco Gold, Panama Red, Colombian or Vietnamese was $10.00. I can remember filling the gas tank in my '63 VW Bug for $3 or $4. Aahhhh, those were the days...

Just turned 19 and on the cusp of Pro Street. Make the turn at Jack In The Box, and do it again. November 1980..flares on the streets / intersections.... shutting it all down.
Now that was bitchin. It used to be like that on the weekends here in downtown Phoenix, but that died off in the late 80's due to gangs having shootouts with each other, etc. Police I remember limited the number of times you could pass spot within a given time frame, and good cruizin pretty much died. This is awesome though. I might have to build another car and move over there. Loved all the beautiful and sometimes quite rare muscle. Amazing, didn't know this was still taking place........
The past 2 times that I have gone to this, the lights @ the Rydells parking light have been turned off. My guess is that if this continues to happen, Van Nuys cruis night will die once again.

I worked one year at the GM plant in Van Nuys.. There and in Ohio was where all the 1967 - 1969 CAMAROS were built..
