I have to admit, this story made me a little bit sad...I can not believe someone would attack this man and his goats. It had to be satan, because he was doing the Lord's work. I admire that the Goat Man lived his life the way he wanted and didn't care how people thought of him. We need more people like him. I have no doubt in my mind that God was waiting for him to say, "Well done MY good and faithful servant!" Thank you for sharing this story... it's one that will stay with me for a very long time.💝💘😔

I went to rural grammer school in East Tennessee. Every year the goat man would come by our school. It was such a big deal, the principle would let all the kids out of class to go outside and see the goat man. He would always stop and talk with the kids and answer questions. I had completely forgotton about him, until I ran accross this video. I could never understand why someone would attack this sweet old man.

Daddy took Sis & me to see him long years back; yes, the goat odor was strong. He was camped behind a small store (outside Lexington, SC) where 278 & #1 met. Daddy's sister remembered seeing him travel up 278 toward Leesville, SC - she said the billy goats would push the wagon going up some of those steep hills. Husband remembers him camping on their place in Redan, GA. Yes, he sure got around. Rumors were that he was a rich eccentric; that his wife would meet him on some of his trips.

Right now I’m 78 years old living just on the outskirts of Chattanooga, Tennessee in Rossville Georgia. When I was about 16 years old, I lived in Adairsville , Georgia. The Goat Man came through our town and had decided to take a rest just north of Adairsville, on old 41 Hwy north. I remember going to see what all the ruckus was about and why everyone was talking about him being in our area. I remember how the goats smelled and was very concerned for him. This wonderful and gentle man reminds me of another wonderful and gentle man - I think, but don’t quote me, this occurred almost at the same time, who was nicknamed “The Leather Man.” Both men never bothered anyone, and both lived a happily nomadic lifestyle.
Why must some people find it necessary to attack those who are not causing any harm, or trouble? Thank you for bringing this wonderful, gentle, and loving man’s story to us all. I remember seeing the goat man from childhood though my teenage years. So many people look forward to him coming to our community. Many of us would take him fresh baked goods, breads, fried fruit pies was one of his favorite. He drank the goat milk most of the time if he didn't have food. He also would gather wild food and plants for medicine for him and his goats. Occur there was some who didn't want him around. But many adults and specially the children love seeing him. The first year he didn't come into our community. The local newspaper owner started to investigated. And everyone was sad to find out he wasn't traveling anymore because he had been injured so bad. But the newspaper owner did receive an address were we could send him postcards. Im sure he wished after awhile that he hadn't okay to give his address. Time went on and postcards were returned. We found out he had passed away. We still after all these years remember and bring up the goat man in our history channel on UA-cam. Overton and Clay counties in Tennessee. He was a gentle and respectful man. And we always had some apples for him and his goats.

I couldn’t listen to the last 40 seconds. There’s a lot of evil in this world and I suspect his haters were extremely jealous of his happiness and free spirit. May the Goat man and his beloved goats forever Rest In Peace and allowed to roam without harm or hatred.

I’m an empath and free spirit myself. For two years, I had a reg job and money for a house after splitting up with my fiancé, but I had two elderly dogs. I couldn’t abandon them at that point and no one would rent to us. I even offered to pay 6 months ahead and finally, we found a home for the last year and half of their lives. Like the Goatman, we visited many states (not as many as him, lol) but they were well traveled. Anyways, being homeless was the best thing to ever happen to me. I learned how to be grateful for everything and stopped wanting.
God bless Appalachian Story Teller and I listened to the end today.

Appalachia is not where The GoatMan was from. He was from Jeffersonville Georgia in Central Georgia.

Did you know goat meat is delicious?? A little tougher than lamb but has a better flavour. In olden times it was known as the poor man's cow and early settlers had lots of them for milk and stew I guess too.

Lots of folks in the comments discussing who would do something so terrible to a man just living his life against the grain. I'd look to the folks making a buck off christ as most modern "churches" do. The biggest threat to their heretical way of life would be a man living closer to the way Jesus did without the pomp and circumstance provided by a nice suit and well-fed congregants.

Damn hateful people working for Satan that attacked that poor man. No need to rob him, he had nothing.
People nowadays that work for the Lord and are loud about it are always getting attacked. Just last week Mar Mari Emanuel was stabbed while giving a sermon. He’s recovering well, “praise the Lord”, but still shouldn’t have been stabbed like that.
Be prepared to meet thy God indeed!
