The more I watch of this (and the spiderhouse one) the more I start to feel like I know exactly how the Ura Zelda process went down. I'm not the first one to say this but: It feels obvious to me that Majora's mask is the true Ura Zelda all along in a sense. It wasn't intended to be that way initially and yes Ura was originally meant to just be a remixed Oot. But look at games like Mario Galaxy 2 where it started as a remix of the first game, or Breath of the wild 2 which started as DLC for the first game. Eiji Aonuma infamously didn't want to work on Ura. It feels, to me, like they mostly began planning new content for Oot on a conceptual level with most of it not being implemented. Maps like these are the exception! Eventually they just figured they could remix the vanilla dungeon layouts and save development time and costs and then the project just fizzled out and all the work shifted over fully to Zelda Gaiden (Majora's mask). Who knows how many of the concepts we saw in Majora wasn't once planned for Ura? Isn't it interesting how Ura Zelda was going to have a purple logo? The only time a purple logo has ever appeared in the franchise is Majora's mask. Coincidence? Ura Zelda was never more than a planned release that never fully took off, Majora's mask was born out of that project instead. At least that's how I'm currently putting things together right now.
They began work on Ura Zelda but as the 64DD's failure was starting to become apparent, they had to scrap Ura Zelda. They re-purposed some of it for inclusion in Majora's Mask, and for Master Quest they took out everything that became Majora's Mask stuff and left/completed the remixed dungeons.
@@papersonic9941 I'm aware! From what I've been able to tell though it seems like Ura might have started a little before Zelda Gaiden because of that whole bet between Miyamoto and Eiji. I suppose it could just mean they started both at the same time. Even so I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that when Ura got scrapped, they repurposed a lot of the new content for that into Majora and released the remixed vanilla dungeons as master quest.
As fair as I know (which I am not super fresh on beta ocarina story) URA and GAIDEN (Majoras Mask) where in development simultaneously but as URA got scrapped because of the 64DD failure a lot of things where repurposed onto Majoras and Master Quest
You remember that “hidden dungeon under the ice” well my theory is that this is it. It has that fairy fountain which may have been the unicorn fountain that we never got to see (because it never got made?) that’s why the level map is tied to jabu, because the actual entrance and exits are no longer in the game.
Stuff like this makes me really excited in hopes that someone will stumble upon the mysterious Unicorn fountain. Could we possibly find....the Triforce...after all these years?
Not sure if these are corrupted textures on the Fairy Fountain here, or if they originally planned for it to look like this, but I am digging the red textures on the pillars and inner border. I'm not sure how I'd feel about it in the final version, but it definitely gives off an interesting vibe. I also love the opalescent look of the wall here.
This really seems like it could have been the intended 'back entrance to the castle' that the old stories used to talk about. There was information about a sewer system in the market that led to the castle and was the original way you sneaked in to meet zelda. The textures at the end bring a little legitimacy to that.
It's interesting that Ocarina of Time's files includes some early data for MM. It's cool that MM may have repurposed some content originally intended for OoT, but I'm curious to know how much of MM is reworked from OoT DD/Ura (SO curious!).
We know a few more small extra things. MM's gold trimmed treasure chests appeared in prerelease pictures of OoT, FD's blade beam might be partially recycled cus OoT had something similar and there's a bird in the moon (just scenery) that got cut from the previous game.
I found it in Twilight Princess years ago. In all seriousness, why was there rumored to be a sky temple for all these years? It seems pretty obvious Nintendo may have planned a Light Temple (like the Temple of Time in Twilight Princess) and a more elaborate Ice Cavern but I dont know what in OOT hinted that a sky temple was ever an idea.
Due to how similar it looks to a normal fairy fountain, I doubt this is a scrapped Unicorn Fountain. I think the textures are just corrupted here which is why some parts are red. Also, this room in MM just has a regular fairy fountain (if they wanted they could have used the Unicorn Fountain's design here, weirder things have been done in this game LOL). Maybe one day they'll find an early build of the Unicorn Fountain! With all these leaks my fingers remain crossed LOL (AAAAaaaaa)
I imagine it's the same one that's in MM, just unfinished. The weird colors are likely the result of the lack of proper lighting. Same reason the rest of the dungeon is so bright.
At this point it MQ could be a very watered down Ura zelda, and now that we know Ura assests were used for majora's mask. I dont think its too preposterous to think that theres a lot more ura zelda in majoras mask that we dont know about
protocetid on hardware level yes, but on concept not, ura Zelda was supposed to be a complete rework but probably hardware limitations of the time just could handle reworked dungeons
@@arturoehr Do you have a citation for "complete rework"? A long AF time ago I read almost every pre release article for this game. No joke, it was for archival purposes. I have zero recollection of it being touted as a complete rework. Could be mistaken as my memory is rather fucked, but my head leans towards Ura being an expansion pack of sorts. Not a full sequel, remake or whatever you'd call it.
anyway you could tell us the filepath for this in the leak? we are very skeptical about this on the tcrf discord. This would also be nice for the spider house if you can please.
As soon as you opened the door to that fountain, I thought it may have been Unicorn Fountain fhhdjd
Anyway, fantastic job!

Thing is, MM was believed to have been in development concurrently with Ura, under the name "Zelda Gaiden"
@@F0nkyNinja Yeah something along these lines is also what I believe.

The beginning looks like the maze in majoras mask where you have to give the mummies standing in front of doors different items to progresss
It’s an early version of it that was found on OOT leaked files and restored by this talented men
That fairy fountain is sweet! I like how you have to traverse a mini dungeon to get to it. That would be a cool concept for the actual game
May have just been part of the fetch quest. Didn't a Gibdo ask for a fairy in MM?
@@papersonic9941 yes but it seemed weird that the only regular fairy fountain in MM was in a completely out of the way area in the well.

I swear! That Lost Woods in the beginning of Majora's Mask used assets from the Zelda 64 Lost Woods beta or is the Zelda 64 Lost Woods.
Nope. The beta lost woods was actually located outside beta castle town:

liminal space: the game
haha I was thinking this exact same thing. these corridors go on forever and seem to have no exterior and no distinct character. VERY liminal spacey.
The map is actually scarier to me like this XD. If you took the music out the effect would be complete.
so this was originally intended for OoT? I wonder how many beta elements they put in Majora's Mask to cut dev time...
Well, the famous Stalfos room is certainly a close match to Ikana Castle's throne room
so, anyone find the Sky Temple yet?? 😅
I found it in Twilight Princess years ago.

@@Knightmessenger the forest medallion has a symbol for wind not forest thats why people believe that at some point there would of been a wind temple

That fairy fountain looks super creepy imo. I like that!
this looks strange like I know it's an early version of the ikana maze but still the textures just don't look like they belong in the final game
So Some Of The Majora's Mask Content Was Originally Supposed To Be For OOT???
Is that the scrapped Unicorn Fountain at the end? Maybe this area was intended to be under the ice in Zora’s Domain?
