Michael Schumacher is my hero, i have been watching F1 since 1988 and I have never missed a single race in that time and for me he is the most complete driver i have ever seen for me the greatest ever even better than Ayrton senna who was amazing himself but Michael just edges him in my opinion.
@@jamesmorgan4121 94 95. Some journalist says also 2003 but i think the Williams and the Ferrari was équivalent. And he fought for titles without the best car in 97 and 98
@jamesmorgan4121 the problem with the 94 William was the Renault engine which was brutal without électronic. The Benetton got a less power full engine. In 95 the williams was really ahead. The B195 was second best car at the beginning but got big aérodynacal problem. At the end of the season it seems that the Ferrari was also a best car. It's what Schumacher Alesi and Berger said after switching team and driving each others cars.
@@jamesmorgan4121 94 the car was 100hp down on the Williams (and he also had a farcical disqualification that year as well) 2003 the car was probabaly the best, but the Michelin tyres had groooves that were too small for most of the year, effectively making them wider than the regulations allowed, and Ferrari were the only top team to run bridgestones. The Michelins were forced to change for the final few races
Here are some interesting facts about Schumi's top achievements: #7 Spa '92: Michael spun during the race and fell back behind his teammate Martin Brundle. While following his car, he realized it was time to switch to dry tyres, because the wet tyres on his teammate's car looked already quite worn. #5 Spa '91: Before his F1 debut he told his teamboss Eddie Jordan that he already knew the Spa circuit, which was just a straight up lie, as he had never been there. In order to get to used to the track, he rode it on his bicycle before the first practice session. #3 Spa '95: Michael stayed out on dry tyres while it was already raining, which made him jump to the front. He did a brilliant job reading the conditions, because even though he got eventually passed by Hill, he later re-gained first position due to the track again drying up. #2 Sepang '99: Schumi had a massive crash at the British GP that year, breaking both of his legs. He didn't actually want to come back in '99, because he wanted himself to be the one who becomes world champion with Ferrari and not his teammate Eddie Irvine. On raceday he won the start, pulled away to demonstrate how superior he was and then played the teamgame by holding up the McLarens so his teammate could make an additional pit stop and still be in the lead. #1 Barcelona '96: Michael had kind of a slow start to the race, but then sliced his way through the field. After he passed Jacques Villeneuve's Williams for the lead, he disappeared into the distance, at one point lapping 7 seconds quicker than the 2nd fastest car.
A second a lap would take maybe $0.5 billion of car development. To come back from an injury and be that much faster, just on the driver alone is unbelievable. He was the highest paid athlete in the world at the time, and looking back, he was underpaid.
That is not accurate, I’m afraid. A whole F1 car costs between $10 million and $20 million. Ferrari‘s budget in 1999 (the year Michael was a second ahead in the qualifying for the Malaysian GP) was about $240 Million. I’d say the cost for one second a lap is much lower at about $1-$3 million in development cost.
@@akajannis I don’t know how much they spent in the early 2000s, but 20 million for the whole car is the wrong value. The first person wasn’t completely wrong. It’s not really 0.5 billion per second a lap, but the whole development for the car reach that high. 20 million euros is around the price for the power unit alone, the whole F1 car is much more costly

They do stop the race if the rain is really bad. It gets red flagged, which can happen if there's an accident too. There's different tyres for rain. Soft/Medium/Hard tyre for dry weather, those are different compounds that vary in their performance and durability. Usually the softest tyres are used in Qualifying and then the harder compounds in the race, though there are exceptions to this. Intermediate tyres are for damp weather conditions, when it's not fully dry and not fully wet. Full wet tyres and extreme wet tyres are obviously for wet weather, but the weather can still be too bad to even run with these tyres. There have been countless different tyre manufacturers through the decades and even periods where there have been multiple at the same time, competing to have the best tyre. Micheline, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop, Firestone are some from the past, the current tyre manufacturer for all the cars now is Pirelli and has been since 2010. He's technically not dead but many believe he is not the same anymore, he had a really horrible accident over 10 years ago while skiing, only 1 year after he retired for the second time. Nobody really knows because he hasn't been seen in public since.
You can switch categories and a lot of drivers do. On the way to F1 most drivers drive at least drive three different categories, and when you reached F1 you probably stay there until you retire or get replaced and some drivers go to IndyCar afterwards or Prototype Endurance Racing. Kimi Raikönnen switched back and forth between F1 and Rally, Michael Schumacher switched to Bikes after F1, that you see less often but Valentino Rossi, most famous MotoGP driver switched to GT Racing, just seeking a new challenge.
A good racing driver needs talent, determination, ego, mental strength and the ability to set up a car to his liking. You need to know what makes you faster, what's the fastest way around the track and consistency to not make mistakes under pressure.
No GOAT list is complete without Fangio, he slots in there above Hamilton. Not only did he win 5 titles back in an era where drivers were dying very consistently, but he did it with 4 different teams. Hamilton or Schumacher, as great as they are, just can't be compared to Fangio
