    The AI Blade and Kessil on the thumbnail just missed out on the list, but were close!

      Although the AI Blade Grows are really nice i had to return two of mine as they were bluer on one side and more white on the other and is now a know defect, it was the cable side which they were more white on mine.

      @@stevo9853I have a friend who’s had like 8 blades for the same reason. Damn frustrating. Build quality on the early units is trash. My wife’s tank has a freshwater blade and we’re on the third one as well. They replace them no questions asked, but for the week it takes to replace them how do you keep your plants/corals alive?

      @@FoolOfATuque Yeah it's Crazy how they can sell them with the defect, has the replacements you recieved got the same defect or have they fixed it?

    Warning to everyone. Dont buy the hanna salinity digital checker. Calibration is always out of whack. Almost cause my tank to crash. Hanna salinity checker reading after Calibration was 1.025, checked with calibrated refractometer and reading was 1.040. Other hanna checkers are nice but dont trust the digital salinity checker

    Awesome video, thanks for the recommendations! Just a random thought, why don't you put a little tube, a quarter circle bend, on the Kalkwasser outlet, so it drips vertically instead of horizontally? ;)

    I had problems with my Hanna salinity tester always testing low as well. I went for the steam powered Tropic Marin High Precision Hydrometer, unsophisticated but good. There is a web based app that corrects for water temp for the 25 degree C calibrated hydrometer and Bob is your Uncle. I have a few inches of plastic hose on my kalk stirrer outlet and it stops the dripping issues.
    I love my Blades, I have even grown to like Mobius, as well as my blades it controls my Neros and my Versa feeding the Kalk stirrer. Merry Christmas!

    Also fell in love with the Nyos Torq G2 this year. It’s such a phenomenal device. A lot of reefers seem to despise the Torq system, but I think this is based on bad experiences with the G1 version. Nyos did a brilliant job addressing all the initial flaws with their G2 release, and I feel they’ve received little credit for that effort. It’s a stunningly good product for its class.

    Have you ever checked the pH of the kalkwasser coming out of the Deltec stirrer? I'm curious to know if it would be the same pH as a bin of saturated kalkwasser.

    The best item of 2023 is the ParWise par meter imo....it's a really plug and play unit at a reasonable price...

    Be careful with that Kalk stirrer, or more specifically, the location. I have a similar avast marine one that cracked (acrylic) slowly over time. If that whole thing goes in your sump, it's game over. Turns out the high Ph takes a toll on the materials over time, especially at the seams which I've also had happen in the past.

    Wow that's very interesting about the Hanna salinity checker, you have just made me extremely worried..... I calibrate once every month, I also gave away my old optical refractometer and now wish I didn't 👀 I may have to buy another now and compare results

    Ive found that floating the calibration fluid sachet in my tank before calibrating the Hanna checker has helped keep calibration but I have also noticed a slow raise in my salinity over time by checking with a ATC refractometer. I usually just check what the Hanna reads the tank is then match my mixing stations water to that reading

    • @ReefDorkXtra
      @ReefDorkXtra  9 місяців тому

      I've always floated the sachet too

    I had exactly the same issue with the hanna salinity checker causing the salinity to creep up. Moved to a glass densitometer with a graduated cylinder.

    I know you shouldn't have to (because of price) but I wonder if a cable tie on the end of the kalk stirrer outlet would make it drip slightly better? Cut at a point facing downwards?

    I 100% agree with your assessment of the Hanna salinity pen. That stupid thing, and me not realizing it sooner, caused a full blown-tank crash after a large water change. Had Hanna on the phone doing calibrations and it read really low right after calibration while performing the steps with them on the phone. Their rep said that it was normal and that their tool wasn't at fault. A $1000 loss of livestock and a tank crash proves that to be utter rubbish. I threw that thing in the trash right after that conversation.

      Always use a Milwaukee or one of the ones you can look into.
      Just calibrate it every time with RO, and you will be fine.
      I have all these products, and i will say i dont use any of them for their intended purpose 😂😂😂
      Just have a coral that is an excellent canary like gsp and you will know all about your tank by just paying attention.
      When you chase numbers, that's the problem.
      Havent tested my water or anything in over 2 years.
      Change your water, fill your evap loss. Easy as.
      Best of luck to you ❤

    4:24 Interesting 🤨 I’ve had my Hanna salinity pen for a few years now, I used to only calibrate it once every 4+ months but now I do it every month, but either way the pen has never lost calibration. I always test my tank before and after I calibrate the pen and it’s been exactly the same every single time since I bought it 🤷

    • @ReefDorkXtra

    So, I was looking at the Hanna digital refractometer as well. It looks exactly like the Milwaukee that I have been using for years- but cost about twice as much. What more do you get in the with the Hanna? 😊

    • @ReefDorkXtra
      @ReefDorkXtra  9 місяців тому +1

      I considered that, too. Can't tell you what you get for the extra money - could be much more reliable internals, could just be an expensive paint job!
