Thieves Steal $100,000 Worth of Copper

  • A warehouse in Los Angeles was recently broken into and thieves stripped the building of $100,000 worth of copper.
This is one of those scenarios where the value of what they stole is far less than the damage caused to the owner.
The thieves will likely have to sell it at a discount to a scrap yard or ship it to another country to have it recycled there.
Meanwhile the owner has to deal with downtime, insurance claims and the process of having it all reinstalled.

Years ago, we sold an industrial building in LA, it was a foreclosure and the bank had not inspected the property yet. When we did our inspection we found 2 bodies, both in different levels of decay, one was laying on top of the other. They had grabbed the copper wires that happened to be live and met their end. What an experience that was...Crazy!

😳 that is an absolutely crazy story! Wow I can't even imagine. Awful that you had to see that and I'm sure that's etched into your memory

Don't banks sell homes and industrial buildings to each other for a dollar?

I stopped locking my truck. It's cheaper just letting thieves have whatever they want vs having to replace a broken window.

although it is more likely for them to try to open the door than it is to break a window because it would just look like it is your car if you are stealing. 🚘

The cost of installing a building security alarm and having it monitored is more than worth the piece of mind while a unit sits empty. Even if it's a $200 Ring security alarm with motion censors that you can monitor from your phone.

💯% agree! It's shocking how many empty building I walk through where there isn't even a basic alarm

@@industrialize I have stolen from cars as an idiot kid. I did my time, now I pay my bills legit. I'm tired of hearing complaints about theft from people living in a place that allows theft...

Fair point and no disagreement from me on how frustrated I am with it too.
I actually live in Canada in a province that would be the equivalent of a red state. It's infuriating seeing what's happening in the blue states (the warehouse in LA is a good example).
