    Just got a pro XLR cable from Periapt from hearing good things from you and Zeos. Really enjoying it so far. Making me actually enjoy my new HE 400i's so I'm thankful.

    Just discovered your channel and had to check if you reviewed my desktop monitors. Got a pair of these at my local guitar center for $200 almost 2 years ago and they are THE shit. Been using them mostly for listening to/creating music but they are also decent to game with. Definitely notice the sub bass drop off but i still highly recommend these, especially if you find them on sale or on (mass)drop (and dont mind the awful piano gloss).

    These are EXCELLENT near field monitors (Meant to be no farther than 3ft in equilateral triangle position). They are perfectly flat, though start to roll off at around 40hz (edit: maybe 50hz, is more fair), and have consistent imaging thanks to its tweeter design. I am in different studios all the time, and these little guys can hang with >$3k monitor systems. They are that accurate. The trade off, is that you can't give them volume to see very deep "into" a mix, and the sub/low bass is gonna be a little tough to judge. But for close near-field speaker monitors, they are a STEAL at

      I have them and also have a pair of around $3000 monitors... in my experience, in terms of detail/clarity per freq range, the 305 does certainly not hang up there with the more expensive monitors... however, they are a steal at their price that's for sure! Great nearfields, those are the ones I'm recommending atm for the price!

      @@catonlsd3 - You are splitting hairs. These are very small speakers. They obviously can't do retrieval/clarity better than bigger speakers (cuz @ $3k, you are talking about woofers of at least 7 inches, or 3 way speakers. In terms of "translation", they can hang with the bigger/better speakers. I can mix on the 305's, and the bring them up on the bigger/better speakers, and it'll be right there.

    Good review. I think the 6” woofer version sounds better, which you can check out yourself at Guitar Center and elsewhere. I like this series better than the mid-centric Yamaha.

    Excellent review, Josh. I just wanted to mention that the JBL model you linked to on Amazon is the updated model from JBL: the 305P MKII - not the LSR305, which is identical to the 30X, apart from the 30X's fancy paint job. While the 305P MKII sounds marginally better and has a cabinet with a matte surface, its front panel is glossy plastic that scratches easily. JBL, why?!

    Love my set. I think the piano black is beautiful, it's not like you would ever need to be touching them after plugging in. Once mounted on speaker stands, all they need is the occasional microfiber cloth wipe down for dust. Piano black in *CARS* though, that's just horrible.

      Because it's studio monitors, they're not designed for music to be enjoyed on, though I enjoy listening to music on them as well as mixing.

    The JBL 305 MKII have way better vocals than the T0s (and any other speaker at that price range). Especially female vocals. I compared them back to back and the T0s have very recessed vocals. Makes me question whether I can trust these reviews overall.

    These are near field studio monitors. Don’t lump them with hifi speakers as it’s like mixing apples and oranges. These are NOT for watching a movie on a couch in your living room. These are for mixing music. And they are amazing!

      I took them back a year ago when I tried them, because the bass doesn’t hit me in the chest. I can imagine with a sub they’d be a lot better for movies and such, but you’re right. There’s much better cheaper options out there.

    they are "near field studio monitors" ... they are supposed to be placed at the 'worst' max distance ~ 1 to 1.5m (3-5 feet? ) apart in an equilateral triangle config. The lack in your perceived depth and bass is probably also due to room acoustics as even moving them a few inches around the room will change the low freq response quite a few dBs (as much as 20dB across a room haha)... although I also feel like the bass is rolling off after like 40-50Hz, it's doing great for it's size though... and I'm not sure it's fair comparing the bass against different similar sized woofers that are not dubbed as "studio monitors" as they are always sacrificing clarity/detail over amount ... and no, 5" woofers are certainly not enough if you want that solid 'visceral punch' from the low freqs

      catonlsd3 like I said in the video, I placed these in a number of different spots. Near field, medium and far. With and without a monitor, on speaker stands, on desktop, in foam blocks, etc. I still think other speakers do depth better even in ideal circumstances.

    I was looking for a pair of monitors, so after reading and watching many reviews I ordered these, but I went to my local guitar center to give them a listen and the sales rep compared them to the Yamaha HS5, and the Yamaha sounded so much better, I ended up canceling my 305 order and going home with the HS5.

    • @Mediaright

      They're generally seen as being for different things. The Yamaha's might be better for production because they carry on the NS-10's tradition of elevating midrange frequencies that can diagnose problems in mixes. The 305's are seen as a much more flattering speaker. More fun to listen on.

    First reviewer I've ever seen who was honest about the bass. Seemingly everybody praises the anemic bass that comes out of these things (that pretty much dies out, as you said, around 80hz) and it makes me feel like Earth has been invaded by pod people programmed to pretend that the JBL 305s have bass. I was misled by them and am maybe a tad bitter but I kept the speakers because, with a subwoofer, they sound good. Maybe you're more objective because of your lack of familiarity with the reputation of these things and thought for yourself.

    • @joshsmith7812
      @joshsmith7812 5 років тому

      I don't know about that, they go down to 43hz which is a lot for 5' monitors also considering that there's a lot of expensive 5 inch monitors that don't go that low, agreed with any 5 inch monitor you won't get tons of bass, that's because of the size but for the size they have an excellent bass response, for small studios with accousric treatment they're perfect. Mixes that I've done on these have translated perfectly in the low end to much bigger club speakers, so idk I guess it depends on what works for you.

    • @azzgunther
      @azzgunther 5 років тому

      @@joshsmith7812 Agreed that it's more an issue with all 5" monitors. I wanted to express my appreciation to the reviewer for pointing out that these things don't actually have any rumble bass, they just have a small taste where the bass would be. Valuable information for someone looking to get into audio. My issue is with online reviewers who say "these things have great bass" but don't bother to finish "compared to other 5" monitors, a field in which no speakers have much bass." The reviews seem to be aimed at people with experience in audio but how would a newb know? All a newb reads are comments that these have great bass.
