    I am surprised to hear you call studio monitors "boring" because they are neutral. Like, they are studio monitors, you can't expect them to be bright (what some people call "dynamic") and still be STUDIO monitors 🙂 (Yes, they are Neutral because they have been objectively tested on ASR and found to be neutral).

      I agree on this... Nearfield studio monitors are supposed to be what he think as "boring", although wrong to use that term... yes, they have to be flat response, cause that's what you need for mixing. That's why "pro" studios always have Mid-Field Monitors in addition to the nearfields, to crank and feel the music (aka. Impress the customer). But for the mixing process, you need "flat" monitors... the "flatter" the better.
      There's a great article/test out there anyone interested should check: showdown-the-best-nearfield-monitor-the-results-will-shock-you (google that)

      @@benirodriguez9516 I think what most people miss is that it should be "fun" to mix on. If you have tuned or been in many tuned studios you'll know a "dead" studio is a TERRIBLE thing. Over tuning is not good. These are not fun at all to mix on the 1k range. Especially for guitars due to the steep curves in that range. It sounds absolutely dead. If you know what you're doing and you can identify pitch within white noise this may be ok. If you mix your own music this is not the best option IMO. Again speakers are subjective, but objectively I'd say a dead sound is not 100% desired in a monitor.

    I’ve been using these monitors in my post-production studio for years. All the team fell in love with them. We substituted all Genelec monitors we had for these. We use 308p as LCRs and 306p as surround ones. Can’t love them more. We did a bunch of film, TV, commercial, and game sound design/mixing projects. 7 film scores. Also, music for the shows was performed superbly in various even quite specific locations. Never heard a bad word about mixing from the customers.
    These monitors earned us a lot of money. Looking to expand the studio to Dolby Atmos. Thinking of 305p’s as surround or ceiling options, but never heard them by now. Hope to learn more about them soon. Love the MK II series!

    IMO these speakers sound neutral, I won't call them boring. Yeah neutral is boring, but that's the whole purpose of buying studio monitors in the first place. I have used Genelecs, Yamahas and KRKs, but I fell in love with JBLs LSR series the very moment I played a sinewave through it. Other monitors are good, but these JBLs are neutral. And I like neutral.

    I will agree that they sound better with a sub, but how is "flat" and "boring" bad for a studio monitor? Isn't that what you want in a speaker you're trying to create music on or make decisions based on? Also considering that you literally plug a cable from the output of whatever to each individual speaker, I don't know how stereo imagining has anything to do with the speakers themselves, as they are literally just getting a L or R signal, I could understand that with a sub as that might do something when it takes the lows away from the signal going to the speakers.
    they are big and loud, relatively flat, studio monitors for less than 500 buck for the pair, and less than 800 when you get the sub, As someone that has used them for several years now, I'm super happy with them and I think anyone looking for a 8in speakers for a good price should consider these,

    • @benirodriguez9516
      @benirodriguez9516 Рік тому +1

      Hi there, yes, in the studio we want flat/boring monitors, the flatter the better. I also thought the guy on the video was off by saying this. I have the 305 first gen, and I'm pretty happy with them.
      Regarding "stereo imaging" it has nothing to do with "left/right channel" but with "perceived spatial location of the sound source", you should be able to "see", well hear, where the instrument/sound and vocal is coming from as if you were seeing the musicians on stage, and every sound comes from where they are situated. The JBL LSR30x series are specially good with this, and that's why the plastic around the twitter cone is constructed the way it is, or so they say. But it works!

    • @blaness13
      @blaness13 Рік тому

      @@benirodriguez9516 The spatial aspect is all about where they are placed
      and the tweeter cone is meant to evenly disperse sound its not about a perceived Left or Right, its about even frequency response in a larger sweet spot,
      Again considering the speakers don't see a L or R signal, it spatial aspect (or being able to "see" where the instrument is placed) of them isn't up to the speaker its up to the user,
      The guy said stereo imagining, thats Left and right.
      the speaker just see a signal and moves air, its stereo imagining is dependent on speaker placement,

      The in 5 has extensional clarity of the mids compared to the Jbl. Much more detailed in the entire audible range. Being able to orient the in-5’s on their sides in different ways really changes how you hear the mix. I’ve ended up putting the speaker horizontal the tweets on the inside. The bass ports on the outside really clears up the air pressure at your head, and moves it around you in a very nice way. I can hear the exact location of snare drums in overheads with this configuration, and stereo volumes differences are easy to hear

Usually the dif. between 5 inch and 8 inch versions is something like 50Hz to 36Hz or in that region. Might be one reason that th 305s seem to sell much much better.

    • @Hankblue

      I've measured the 305s, they're not 49hz linear. They're about 60-65hz linear and then a steep roll off down to -8db, spanning down to 40hz where they drop off completely.

    Streaky, your room is too big for these speakers. In smaller spaces these sound fantastic and do not lack in the low end and detail at all. I use JBL 305p MKII and ATC SCM25a and JBLs really do hold their ground against the ACTs and complement them very well. Keep in mind that ATCs cost around 40 times more than JBLs...

      not really. i had adam t8v - its high and lows are very impressive but it lacks a lot of midrange content. great for classical, jazz and electronic music, but rock and metal are very midrange heavy genres, so i can't imagine they would be that good on the adams.

    Speaker Question for a small boutique fitness gym. We are moving into a new space and I’m looking for some guidance on speakers. I would like to install 2 speakers. Would something like these sound okay? With it being 2 way, do they require wiring? I would be playing the music from an iPad so would need some speakers that would play from that. Thanks for the guidance guys.

    Much prefer the simpler aesthetics of the Mark1 series (ie: JBL 305 mk1). This high-gloss 80s cocaine look really not my cup o' tea. That said, would love to see a review of the Dynaudio LYD48. They fill a nice niche for a 3-way speaker at that price point, and they are selling like hotcakes. Are they Streak-worthy?

      @@beats-by-skrill8925 I've seen them in person and again, nope. I just can't stand the high-gloss black plastic, much prefer the simpler, matte finish. Just a matter of personal taste, nothing more.

    • @lamenamethefirst
      @lamenamethefirst 2 роки тому

      I agree with you. I'm lucky I have the old ones. The gloss finish is so distracting. Professional speakers are almost always matte. Having said that I don't agree with this review. They have plenty of bass and a super tight transient response and I find them very easy to make mix decisions on. You just have to set them up correctly. I also think that the top end is a bit brittle on the default setting (at least in my room and every room is different) but if you engage the HF trim that goes away.

  • @christopher6673
    @christopher6673 2 роки тому +3

    I like them, they are kind of normal sounding, to me that means they aren’t very hyped. Sounds are normal. If source is bassy and boomy, it’s bassy and boomy. In a big room they go pretty low without a sub, I appreciate that. If the source sucks these suck. If the source is good these are good. I agree the detail is a little compressed feeling, but the highs can feel pristine. It’s hard to make decisions when that happens, because nothing sticks out at you as “wrong”.. and doing nothing can be the right answer. Versus plenty of speakers that send us down rabbit holes when the right answer was just leave it be. But yes, would want a second pair of unported passives or known pair to really trust anything 100% at least at first.

    Mix on dull speakers so that if you can make YOUR mix sound great then you KNOW you have a great sounding mix everywhere.
    But great sounding speakers make dull mixes still sound great. So if you’re mixing and you think it sounds great, it might actually be really dull.
