I’m so happy you’ve started this channel Julie, highlighting beautiful houses and gardens in the UK. The trend at the moment seems to be English and Americans buying chateaux in France to renovate - which I also love by the way - but there are so many gorgeous places in the UK to celebrate too.
I will never forget some advice your father in law shared with others years ago, about how to enjoy life, and get the most out of it! He simply said, enjoy every sandwich! I think of it every time I am eating a good sandwich! Thank you to the Earl of Sandwich!
This is great! I always was bummed that I couldn’t watch An American Aristocrat’s Guide to Great Estates because it was on a channel I didn’t get. Thanks for sharing these homes!
That was absolutely incredible! As an American who’s always wanted to visit such an estate across the pond…this was amazing. My new favorite channel! I’m looking forward to the next episode.
Good morning Julie, Will do...now it's java time. Strong and with cream no Sugar..have a blessed day...love❤ ur blogs.. Hows Italy pad going on Renovations?stay healthy This virus crap is hitting Hard again..people with Shots getting sick.UGh..
@americanviscountess I am loving this new venture. Excited to see all of the Manors and gardens. Every year when I visit my sister in England, it's a a funny thing that I am the one that shows her beautiful England while she's the one living in the country. I tell her where we should go and she drives.
This is so inspiring as it brought back so many memories of when I first arrived in England as a student and fell in love with England, a country I knew only through books I have read when I was a child. I was fascinated by the old houses my English friend showed me around Kent and history and heritage became an obsession for me. I imagined life in Hever Castle with Anne Boleyn and Sissinghurst with Vita Sackville writing away in her Tower…. Of course, historic houses always come with magical gardens and imaginative planting and since then, gardening has been my passion too! I am totally in love with Julie and her genuine interest in the English way of life and generosity in sharing her discoveries. Thank you very much. I cannot wait for the next episode.❤️
Boy, oh boy do I love a fantastic garden and Iford sure is spectacular! My favorite things from this series are the love that the gardener puts into caring for the garden, how William knows the wonderful stories behind the garden and finally the angel cake and the chocolate cake! Wonderful!
My aunt and uncle house-sat Iford for one summer in the very late 1960s (it may have been the early 1970s) so, very briefly, I too stayed in the house, exploring the gardens with my pre-teen cousins. It wasn't looking so good back then, but the gardens were magical to explore as young children, especially the then 'lost' (very overgrown, unfinished) Japanese garden. When I returned as an older teenager, beginning to discover my way through garden history, I had a powerful sense of deja-vu, but couldn't believe I actually did know the garden. I've been back many times since, but it is lovely to know that beneath the beautifully kept gardens we see today is a 'secret garden' from my childhood.
I love the cat sunning itself on the balcony. Fascinating place, and beautiful. I see Boden is a sponsor, how about a Boden fashion show featuring Julie?
My goodness Julie-how do you manage all of your visits, tours, historic sites with all your other UA-cam channels? I love your little Italian abode too. Marvelous you’re amazing!! 👍
This was amazingly superb!! Up until the pond skimming. Don't try to be funny. Just keep being sincere about where you are and the beauty. Trying to be funny changes the whole atmosphere of why I'm so attracted to this program.
I LOVE this garden. Obviously it's been very well thought out and maintained, but it also very much has a magical wildness. More contained/formal gardens are very beautiful of course, but I love the magic of gardens that feel slightly wild. They also tend to seem even more magical "in the gloaming" aka that time during twilight/dusk when the sun is golden and the colours, especially blues and purples, really show their vibrancy.
This was pure cinematic pleasure! Thank you so much Julie for sharing this history and this beautiful place. I just adore you! I know we've never met, but I feel as if I know you. You're just fabulous! x

Oh my goodness, this was exquisitely beautiful - the Manor House, the gardens, the surrounding landscape - all of it! Thank you so much for creating this wonderful series for us all to watch, I love absolutely everything about it. I’m also definitely going to become a member of your American Viscountess patreon!
So sad I missed the premiere. I know several little towns outside of chicago. When I heard about Sandwich, I thought how funny if that's where you from in IL as well. My sister introduced me to your channel. I look forward to following your story. Blessings!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful day. I should be out doing fall clean up in my garden, but it’s more fun watching you. I’ve convinced my neighbor not to be afraid of our garden snakes. Try to remember they’re part of the ecosystem. I’m sure your son can help you to at least tolerate them.🦋
Those garden are absolutely a big WOW! Grew up with a Japanese style garden - which I love, very peaceful. Looking forward to more of this series, for you to show us more of those magnificent estates & the people behind them. Thanks
Love how your energy and spirit just SHINE through your video documentaries. I’m such a fan. The beauty of the places you go the sweet and enchanting histories of the interesting people, houses, gardens and circumstances you encounter makes watching a great pleasure. Lovely music too.
@Charlie Wayne Thomas , Hi Charles so sorry to hear of your wife death,my own mother died 8yrs ago this Christmas and for the first 6 yrs I'd say dad felt it hard, he couldn't be in the house at night alone,so joined more clubs ect...to do with his interest. Yes I am very happy in my marriage, its our 25th next yr, we've 2children ,our eldest is 21 and just left university and working from home, while 2nd is 19 and in their second Yr at university. Very lucky to live in the English countryside, and enjoy all the village and farm noises, it's peaceful to me. Hopefully you'll find some interests or a friend you can partner up with and visit historical places yourself.
Loving your videos (I have just discovered them on UA-cam) and have been doing a bit of a binge watch. This video seems to have a "glitch", but maybe it was planned and I am incorrect that it is a "glitch". At the 8:43 mark music was playing loudly over any original audio (could not hear her talking about the gardens) and ended at the 10:00 mark. Thankfully the video seems fine, just the audio is odd. I was elated to see a statue in the gardens of Ilford that is also located at a place called Eden Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Here is a quick explanation so you know the statue to which I am referring: "The Capitoline Wolf Statue is a sculpture of a she-wolf nursing Romulus and Remus in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. The bronze sculpture on a granite and marble base is located in Eden Park at the Twin Lakes area overlooking the Ohio River." It was nice to see something very familiar so far away that is also being enjoyed by many in such a beautiful setting. Thank you so much for all the lovely content. I cannot wait to watch more!
Beautiful ❤️! Great job Julie ☺️! I'm afraid of any kind of snake, too and spiders! I'd be worried about the snakes going up in the Wisteria on the house! 😫 I was wondering why the water doesn't have the plants in to control the algae like Mapperton does?
I think this is a wonderful idea Julie as there as so many exquisite Manor Gardens in the UK. This is one of my favourites as it’s not so big and on so many levels. The setting is stunning too with that lovely little bridge. and the statue of Brittanica keeping guard. Was there something about archers training for the battle of Agincourt in what is now the car park or was that somewhere else?
I love the drone footage of Iford. It's so beautiful!! Learning about the garden is really interesting. I love the story of William's Mom buying Iford at 25!!! Julie, you are so brave to in the water! I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Iford!!!!!!!!!! Love from Vermont
Wow, that is quite the garden, and now I understand why you're doing this series. I appreciate the bits of history thrown into the conversation, excellent. I look forward to more, cheers!
