Nice little trip round my old hometown. Just some info the blue bridge you crossed is Burton Bridge and it’s over the railway line also if you want to go back and park on the country park without a height barrier use the car park just off redwood avenue on Willow Drive. Melton Country Park is stunning and great for dogs. Great video.
Great to see you guys near our home town, looking for the Melton country park is a pain, the main park in Melton was where you guys parked the first time, it’s got the old canal there and a cafe and other interesting things I can’t remember it’s been so long. Thanks for your videos
Hi both, the first car park was a bit tight Bob, but you managed to squeeze in. Nice walk around the town, glad you found the Pork pie shop and were able to have a bite to eat. What a to do with the height barriers, weird how the entrances were amongst housing estates. Such a shame. Melton Mowbray isn’t too far from us but we have never visited. X
We have just had a parking fine for £100. We parked in a car park and couldn't get meter to accept our card. So left and parked elsewhere. We were there only 8 minutes and got a fine. Its wasn't in Melton. But from now on we will video the meters as we try and use them from now on. 😪
I went to Melton Mowbray some 10 years back a very nice place and yes I did visit the pork pie shop, another great video Bob I’m really enjoying watching your adventures, I’ll check out your back catalogue for van specs as I was wondering what the engine size & BHP is as your motorhome pulls away and keeps up with traffic very nicely, it’s no slouch is it and much quicker than I thought it would be
@@BobEarnshawMoHo good size engine and output and the 150 bhp certainly seems to be more than enough, the wife and I are planning to get a motorhome when we retire so we can go on similar adventures as yours and Jenny’s so I’m watching well in advance and making notes on the different layouts and creature comforts etc and the pros and cons of the different styles, I’d guess the best advice would be to hire one first and also go to a few shows etc and your videos are a great help for information
What an adventure, we could not believe how much new housing was being built there, my mark is still on the grass verge in the carpark, slipped on the wet grass pulled a muscle in my leg bruising has just about gone now, 👍
Hi Bob and Jenny. We enjoyed this vlog as it highlights something we all have to deal with from time to time. After a recent trip from Knaresborough to Chapel Lane for the NEC show we stopped at Woodall Services on M1. The parking was dreadful with no real dedicated caravan/motorhome parking. What arrangements had been made were full of lorries. I wondered if you had ever done or ever considered doing a compilation vlog of service station experiences. This would be really useful for planning trips to know which service stations might be best avoided or at least where problems might be anticipated . Just a thought. Your vlogs are always so informative. Thank you, Keep up the good work. Steve F.
I do often film visits to service stations as part of our arriving at videos, saying which ones have good parking. But we never use the shops or toilets there. Thanks, something I could think about.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo your visits to the service stations are very useful and I did just mean the parking side of things rather than the shops etc. What I was wondering was whether it was possible to draw these together in an easy to access compilation so we could find them easily before a trip.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo haha! Yes! Point taken! Maybe something for the future. Just thought it would be a useful resource but I do realise you have a life to live too. Keep going with what you do, it is very much appreciated by many people.
@@steve130361 just been looking at recent videos. I think I stopped filming services because I got feedback the driving bits were too long. I'll think on it though.
And that is why we love our Auto-sleepers Symbol. It's so easy to park and we find it big enough for two and it negates the need to tow a car - but we don't all like the same size, it would be a dull place if we did.
I think we will give Melton a miss, height barriers, the bane of motorhomers, on a recent trip to Hythe in Kent, all car parks had height barriers, wrote to local council, got usual response
Stamford is a far more beautiful town to visit, but not far from Melton is Belvoir castle with lots of Walks and a massive motor home friendly car park, there they have a little shopping complex called the engine yard, also the surrounding villages have some lovely pubs and cafes.
Hi Bob.Jenny Poppy & Tara , we took a drive to Southport this afternoon parked down by the sea where it is free for 3 hours( by the pier without having to get in the height barrier) oh my goodness the wind got up really strong could hardly walk on the pier the van was wobbling like mad, had to drive back into town to go home that way ( not the coast road) it was really bad on a plus side the sea was in 😂 i watched the video where your giving tickets for the show, i would only be able to go the weekend so did not enter, it would have been good to meet Poppy and Dougals 😊
Canterbury Council has got the right idea, perfect Aire for Motorhomes on the Dover Road P&R with water, grey & black emptying. £8 for overnight, free bus into the city, quiet & safe. Ideal for visiting the City or using the Eurotunnel/ Ferry.
I've never really understood the logic of height barriers. I guess it's to stop fly tipping or something. You should be able to park in tourist attraction places. Melton Mowbray looked nice and I'm a fan of pork pies 👍
Hi I’m from Melton and I fully appreciate you’ve never been to Melton but the one thing I noticed is that your satnav needed to be turned off because it took you about 1 1/2 miles out of your way to park up off burton road and it didn’t take you to the 2 car parks that didn’t have height barriers that you actually drove past 🤷🏼
As you drove to the second car park for the country park there’s two car parks off of redwood avenue the best one for your camper vans would have been the first one on the bend as it would have given you guys more room to park
Thanks, we'll look for that next time. The height barriers were not there when Trev and Sue last visited and it's not clear where the height barrier free entrances are from Google maps or the council website for the park. In fact the visitor centre that the website listed had the height barrier. We followed the brown signs straight into a height barrier. A little local knowledge always helps!
I wanted Melton Mowbray to be a lovely place, however it was a great disappointment. The river walk and the small park in the town centre were the best bits.
