All the visual effects are made to serve the actors' performances. It's like make-up but put on afterwards so it doesn't restrict the actors' expressions allowing them to give the best performances they can. Hopefully the Academy can understand this and finally nominate Andy Serkis for an Oscar.

That must have been a blast - I visited Weta and loved the tour, but was always wanting to go outside the tour zone and around a corner to see more behind the scenes.

How much they paid for this? It must have been so expensive! And before you say they are promoting the movie, so it is for free, I believe it was only the interviews, because the whole mo cap part with cameras and everything, was definitely paid for.

This is exactly why I think MoCap actors shouldn't get nominated for an Oscar.
4:00 Is why a lot of people don't think it's "all actors". I've heard it countless times. "It's all Andy Serkis. His performance is amazing". I agree. His a great actor. Human or not.
But the end result is NOT all him. There's a bunch of animators and what not who can tweak his eyes, his eyebrows, the mouth, etc. And when it all adds up, it can look quite different than what he acted in the first place.
They are making adjustments because facial expressions come over different on the ape facial structure sometimes. There is a difference between doing that and somehow changing a performance

mo cap is a great solution then make up but that depend on the situation. One of the many issues with the first planet of the ape reboot was that the make up was amazing but it was heavy and take so long to put together so it end up that the actors have to act while wearing a heavy suit which to majority of actor can not do well. Only a few actor and it so much work. With mo cap it provide a lot least physical stress to the actor.
