    Not sure if anyone mentioned this but I believe Floor was the first metal vocalist to participate on Beste Zangers. With the exception of Tim, who she sang for, no one knew her or expected a metal singer to have her talent and skills. It's so entertaining to see everyone just shocked by her.

      Maybe the Dutch version of the show. Sharon den Adel (who is Dutch) was on the Belgian version of the show (Liefde Voor Muziek), and I'd consider her a metal vocalist.

      @@richardaling5278 Sharon is absolutely a metal vocalist. You should listen to their first albums. It's symphonic metal, and pretty hard, with lots of growling (not hers but a male). She also appeared on After Forever's first album in a duet with Floor. That's how I discovered WT. She appeared on an AF concert. That was before Ice Queen and they were even smaller than AF back then. I saw them a few times perform for maybe 50 people or so - not waiving her hands, but headbanging. Floor is undeniably a better singer, but Sharon is great as well. She's not overrated. They just make music that is more in tune with the general public's ear (or lets be honest, simpler).

    Your comment about Floor's ability to sound like she's from any era is soo good. I remember the first time I heard this I said to myself, ok, now she's channeling Melissa Ethridge. Floor is what happens when natural-born talent meets passion, work ethic and attention to detail.

    Not a criticism, but I think of Floor as "skilled' more than "talented." Yes, she has the physical pipes she was born with, but she's studied and worked extremely hard on her voice for a long time. All those textures and techniques we adore don't mean much if you don't know when and how best to apply them, and those years of experience have enabled her to make such wonderful, often surprising choices in her performances.

      There isn't a singer alive who has a voice which can everything without training. The fabled voice either gets destroyed by the attitude 'I can do that at drop of a hat'. Which means destruction of that voice. Like any other instrument the better care you take for that instrument the longer it lasts.

    • @RealityDysfunction85
      @RealityDysfunction85 4 роки тому +5

      I get what you are saying but it is incorrect. The only way to become a Master of anything is to have the latent talent and then the will and discipline to work harder than anyone else. She is prodigiously talented and has puts 10000s of hours in to her craft.
      As an example I have trained in martial arts for about 10 years, I have seen young people come in with HUGE amounts of talent and physical prowess, guys who could do things I could only dream of doing. I have also seen people with 20% of their natural ability come in and surpass them within a year, how? By working harder than everyone else around them, not relying on latent physical prowess.
      And the ones that go on to be absolute weapons and masters of the craft are a combination of the two, I have seen guys come in and surpass me in a year or two because of that combination of talent and discipline.
      So yes, she is talented and disciplined and that is what makes her a master. You cannot get to be as good as Floor Jansen by simply working hard, you have to have that latent talent that some people are just born with.

    • @brunokingz
      @brunokingz 4 роки тому +3

      I think she is both.. Doesn't matter having the skill if you don't have the feeling... You can see that in pop singers, belting like crazy, thinking that high notes are the only thing that demonstrates their prowess

    • @crabuki1273
      @crabuki1273 4 роки тому +2

      @@RealityDysfunction85 Rand (may I call you Rand?) that's true - not every one has a 4 octave range in their vocal quiver - it was more a commentary on the usage of the word "talented." If you listen to the earliest After Forever, it certainly sounds good, but it's wild (think Eye of the World era Nynaeve). That's a her talent on display, the raw instrument, which is what I meant (though wasn't completely clear) by saying she has the "physical pipes." I think of that as Floor's baseline (even though probably she'd already begun at least rudimentary training). The Floor singing Winner in this video is seasoned and mature and majestic. She knows her instrument and is in complete control of it. She's spent years learning that control, listening to music and learning what she likes and doesn't, how to achieve a multitude of effects/textures/styles/whatever you want to call it. She put in the work, she knows how to create those vocal effects, and is a skillful artist in the where and hows and how much of applying them. It's that craftswomanship, the layers to every performance, which I admire so much about her.
      When I listen to the new Nightwish album, I mean, I'm sure there are singers who could do those songs in the studio with edits and takes aplenty. Once life regains some normalcy, though, Nightwish is going take those songs on the road night after night. Those songs are hella-difficult to song. You have to be an absolute wonder to pull those off live, and I have full confidence Floor can do it. Tuomas was true to his word that he was going to challenge her this time.

    "It's a song called 'Winner', which is foreshadowing something, innit?" I hope you're talking about us as an audience or music as a whole, because this show is not about appointing a winner (there's already too many shows based on competition). This show is all about celebrating these artists love for music together.
    I agree with all those comments urging you to check out some of the other performances from this season as well, because there's some real beauties in there:
    - Emma - Strong
    - Henk - Sound of Silence
    - Rolf - Hotel California
    - Tim - Nemo
    - Henk & Emma - Vivo per Lei

      @EnglishLad 4 роки тому

      Tina Turner had one of the most powerful voices of the 80s. No shame in adding her to that list. It's when you start comparing Floor to people like Lady Gaga or Madonna that most people will start to question your choice of comparison.
      In reality though, you can't compare Floor Jansen to anyone. Floor Jansen is a Valkyrie goddess of metal. Floor Jansen is Floor Jansen!

    • @AGDinCA
      @AGDinCA 4 роки тому

      @@EnglishLad Definitely no shame in the comparison to Tina. Are you kidding? I love Tina! I just meant that I think, under it all, Floor might just have little bit of _soul sister_ in there. You don't have to be black to posses a soul sister's spirit. LOL
      And, to be clear, I'm not suggesting Floor's going to be singing anything from Tina's genre or catalogue, but that think Floor can and does sing with Tina's strength, grace, passion, etc.
