    Thank you so much for making this series! It has been an inspiration to repair, maintain and restore my '68 912. Although I'm light years from your skills and knowledge, it has been an invaluable source of detailed step by step procedures not found anywhere else. Thanks and greetings from Chile!

      Mike M - question for you where did you source your heater orange silicone hoses?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  6 років тому

      Hello matlecomte
      They are Porsche genuine..material is a fiberglass fabric with dye color coating
      They are quite ridged compared to the original which had more wire winding for bending.
      I think the silicon after market type might be a good option for flexibility although I have not seen
      those up close.
      Good luck!

    • @guzf344
      @guzf344 6 років тому

      Hey Mike, the tunnel is very tricky. I know a lot of guys that have done fuel lines insitu! I rewired my whole front end. I used network cable sheathing to keep it all together while routing it. Green shrink wrap would be much better because it's already a little slick. You're going to have a better than new 911 in the end. Keep up the great work; you're a real artist.

    Your videos are as outstanding as helpful. Thanks a lot Mike, you are my restoration hero! Regards from Fredrik Klass, a proud Porsche 912 from 1966 owner.
    p.s. your restorated Porsche will be more well made than it ever was as newly produced from factory. Ever want to sell it?

      Thanks fredrik I really appreciate your enthusiasm.
      These old classic Porsches are such awesome cars..
      As for selling it..its not really something I entertain maybe someday when I'm old and running out of steam or not able to drive anymore. Although If I wasn't able to drive anymore it would still look nice in my living room as a conversation piece=)

    Hi Mike, I'm watching every video with great interest. Trying to get all the details. Did I miss a video of the general wiring harness of this fine automobile? I can see you have some wiring harness going on in the engine bay with the next video, but I can already see some wires (and heat tubes) in this video. What did I miss? I hate to miss some of your detailed work. They way you work is a great inspiration, for all restoration projects thanks

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  5 років тому

      Hello Thomas
      Thank you=) yes there are several harnesses on the car I will be going over in greater detail. In Video 38 it was just pulling the main harness into location but not much for hookups as of yet.
      There is also a harness in the headliner installation video definitely
      worth checking out. The headliner harness is tough!!!
      As the series continues I will cover all hookups..little bits are revealed during ongoing segments as the timing require.
      Lots of video to watch but I hope not to have to many gray areas..
      If you have a any particular question I will try my best to answer
      Feel free to reach out!

    Hello Mike, did you use a high temperatur paint for those flapper boxes? Or would a regular paint be sufficient? Thanks

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  5 років тому

      Hello Lukasz
      Yes you are correct..high temputure engine paint should work fine on the flapper boxes. They will get quite hot..engine paint is good to about 500-550 degrees
      Good Luck!

    Hello Mike, thank you so much for your excellent videos. They have been invaluable for me during my restoration process of a 65 912. A question: Is the speedometer cable and brake line held by the same hold-down tabs? I am a bit confused atm :-)

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  2 роки тому

      Hello Palo Alto Thank you im glad they can be of some help.
      I have reviewed the video footage and also gone back through some photos and as best I can see
      and they do share the same hold down tabs near the hand brake location.
      Most of the lines as they run through the tunnel kind of settle in to what needs to happen.
      Also cars may be different on what's available through the tunnel.
      One other point I should bring up after reviewing the video is the accelerator rod that runs down the tunnel
      does get bushings installed the holding tabs.
      I show them in another video but don't recall off hand which one that was.
      My car did not have them but they were a factory installed items. A viewer brought to my attention!
      Good luck!

    Hi Mike, how did you clean the wiring insulation? I tried white spirit but it washed the color stripe from the wire.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому

      Hello Ian
      The wire harness was washed with warm soapy water and paint gently scrubbed with paint brush..followed by clean water rinse.
      Next Blow dried with compressed air and left to dry out outside in the sun on a very warm day. The solid wire colors can be cleaned with a flash wipe of acetone. The wires with strips color can be tuned up if necessary with denatured alcohol. being careful not to over due as it could remove strip color if wiping too long
      Good luck!

    Hi Mike - sorry if I missed it: do you/can you replace the retaining clips that hold the harness etc in place? I'm too hesitant to rip one off incase they can't be replaced.... The two pronged ones with the rubber outer sleeve. Thanks

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  3 роки тому

      Hello eljimberino
      The retaining clips/clamps will remain in place. They are spot welded and would be difficult to replace and reinstall.
      I did replace the vinyl sleeves with shrink tubing to clean them up and that seems to work well
      Good Luck!

    Hi Mike - I really got a lot out of this video since I'm repairing and reinstalling my heater valves, hoses and cables. As usual, beautiful work. I have been looking for where to buy the heater hose clamps as shown in the video at 11:01. The part number I have is 901.211.051.22 but what shows up is another style (with the pipe welded to the side of the clamp), not like the ones you have. Would you have a suggestion as to where to buy them? Thanks.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому

      Hello Rotarybreather thank you
      The clamps you are referring to in the video are factory originals from 1966 refinished.
      When Porsche remanufactures some parts they make small changes to be more suitable for a wider range of years and models.
      Im sure the new clamp style would work but if you are looking for these parts exactly I would recommend searching eBay for some
      used originals.
      Most of my Genuine Porsche Parts are sourced here
      www.porschesandiegoparts.com/oem-parts/porsche-pipe-clamp-90121105122
      Always affordable and always beautifully packaged and shipped usually within one week. A great place to source all your Genuine
      parts. Sometimes they don't have pictures when you enter your part number but as long as you are sure its the correct part number
      they will ship correctly. Also I think for those clamps there would be a left and a right ..Its been a while since working with them
      Good luck!

      Mike - do you have a video showing how to hook up the cables to the heat exchangers (that open the flapper boxes, not the heater valves)?
