  • Introducing the all-new 4th generation Orvis Helios fly-fishing rods, our most accurate statement ever. To cast a Helios fly rod is to discover how it feels to set your cast on autopilot to achieve pinpoint accuracy, whether you’re making a close-quarters shot or a long-distance call. Available in 29 models-in both Distance and Finesse actions-Helios is the most advanced fly rod ever conceived, and the culmination of nearly two decades of constant progression. Pushing accuracy into the realm of total intuition, it represents the industry’s biggest leap forward to date. The new Helios is where accuracy comes alive in a way you’ve never thought possible.
Fly fishing is a game of inches. The ability to deliver your fly with confidence-on target, every time-means you will catch more fish. The incredible new Helios fly rod is 4X more accurate than Helios 3-the previous undisputed industry benchmark-and leaves all other competitors even farther behind. To achieve this quantum leap in accuracy, our designers had to solve for one of the main enemies of precision: tip displacement. When the energy of the forward cast is released, it can cause the rod tip to wobble around the horizontal and vertical axes-reducing the accuracy of the cast. The new Helios displays dramatically increased hoop strength and minimized vibration along the blank, leading to a radical reduction of tip displacement. The result is a precise, smooth energy transfer from your hand to the fly, and laser-like precision.
With more bend and backbone, the all-new Helios fly rod is also 25% stronger, far surpassing previous generations and the competition, pushing the boundaries of durability. That increased travel distance means more lifting power when a fish runs under the boat or thrashes at the net, allowing you to fight those last moments with confidence.
Swing weight isn’t something measured on a scale, but the perceived weight in your hand during the cast. Thus a 10% reduction in levered swing weight equals a crisp and balanced feel with a smooth transfer of energy that is virtually effortless for all-day casting without fatigue. Even after long hours on the water, you'll feel sharp enough to target that difficult fish.
The Helios fly rod lineup includes 29 4-piece models featuring progressive tapers purpose-built for a wide range of applications, including unique designs for dry flies, nymphing, Euro-nymphing, small streams, salt water, and blue water. Grips, reel seats, and butts come in 8 configurations for maximum effectiveness.
Our incredibly precise and consistent manufacturing standards mean that, if you do break your new rod, we can send you a replacement rod section that will fit perfectly, getting you back on the water in as little as 5 days. All Helios rods are covered by our industry-standard 25-year warranty.
Made in the U.S.A at our Manchester, Vermont, rod shop.

As a Vermonter, I applaud Orvis’ constant quality improvement and innovation -it’s exceptional. I’m selling two of my tried and true rods so I can upgrade to the new Helios.

My favourite fly rod is my Helios 2, 12 weight tip flex with double wells grip. It has landed more monsters than I remember. Paired with the Mirage and Hydros Tarpon line, it outcasts others beautifully. I have no desire to change, because the H2 is perfect for me. At the other end of the spectrum, (no pun intended-(a sage reel)) my favourite trout reel is a CFO III. I’ve used it since 2013 and won’t ever change it. Great stuff Orvis.

Super excited to cast one of these! As high a bar the Helios 3 set, it’s difficult to imagine a rod that can perform measurably better.
By the way, your succinct and simple description of swing weight as leverage weight is genius, from this engineer’s perspective. I usually describe it to folks as where on the rod the weight is distributed and situated; the further out on the rod, the heavier the swing weight. Think of the fat kid on the teeter totter; where he sits matters to balance. Leverage weight. I like it.
Orvis - you all are killin’ it. Way to go!

Is this range going to be available with the toned down, green or blue logo, or like the Blackout range? The rods may be fantastic, but that logo is awful

Oh don’t worry, once you spend $600+ they will come out with the next best thing (same thing with new paint job).

@@jayr7471 No doubt. I have to say that I did cast it in the 8wt and it is awesome. I picked-up a Helios 3 during the summer in a 4wt and by comparison the new one is lighter and it's more stiff. Very precise on the cast. I ended up getting Recon in an 8wt only because the new Helio4 in an 8wt is $1100! But if I had the cash I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

Orvis and Shawn: Thank you for going the extra mile to develop a new next generation Helios 4 fly rod. I have a few Orvis fly rods and love the action of everyone. Unfortunately, your marketing department leaves a lot to be desired. Why would you not: 1) attend the fly fishing shows as an exhibitor and 2) coordinate your new Helios 4 introduction at the shows so your customers could cast these wonderful rods and really experience their superior performance? It is a sad sad situation.

I really like the Orvis Clearwater and Recon. I would even say recon would be one of my favorite rods of all time. The Helios is the exact opposite for me. By far the worst feeling rod I have used. I know my opinion doesnt mean much but damn it felt so bad I handed it back to the guide after a while. He laughed and said he felt the same way and had others not use it as well. Maybe a bad batch he was using.

I wouldn't trust the reviews. They're all so gushy. I have one of these rods and I left a positive (4 stars) review on the Orvis site with some mild counterpoints. It was the only non-5 star review. They removed it. Your products are good Orvis you don't need to act scared just because they're not perfect.

Why wouldn't they stick a hook keeper on it? $1200 rod with no keeper, come on boys. Or is there a technical reason for not having one?

    • @Subaruuu12
      @Subaruuu12 4 місяці тому +1

What do you need a hook keeper for? their pointless, and cause kinks in ur leader. wrap ur leader around the reel and hook it to one of the guides like a normal person.

I was underwhelmed with the 3 to be honest!!! Accurate rod, great casting…but not the durability of the Sage, by far!!! Good for you trout guys, but not for Musky and bigger species.
