Today there is no longer trainconnection by the ferry . Instead the route goes via the Great Belt tunnel to peninsula of Jutland and down south towards Hamburg. When the new tunnel between German and Denmark has finished, the journey will take 21/2 hour.
Ohhh.. Thank you for the updates! I'm just glad I had experienced the train-ferry trip to Hamburg from Copenhagen. It was such an incredible journey. Hope I can travel to Europe again soon!
I spent 10 days in Northern Europe to visit 4 cities and I felt I'd need to stay longer than that. So many places to see, food to eat, and people to meet.
That‘s way longer than I wanted it to be. The ferry was alright, only taking 5 hours from Hamburg to Copenhagen (the ferry took 30 minutes-1 hour of the time)
Nice video! Lucky guy you are! You took one of the last trains that uses the ferry connection in 2019. I have a lot of memories to this service as I took it for around 15 years once a month on average. I have to add that the train is Danish IC3 "rubbernose", not German. You cannot find these trains elsewhere in Germany, only on the way from Hamburg to Denmark. (And the station you showed at around 6:40 is not Rødby, but Nykøbing/Falster (around 25min north of Rødby Færge).
Since Dec 2019 these trains are taking the longer route via all bridges and danish islands and is entering Germany in Flensburg. No more ferry ! But speed mostly 180 km within Denmark and up to 160 km/h in Germany. The overall time required is the same as via ferry
Thank you Giorgi for watching. I am glad you enjoyed it. I wish I was more creative so I could give justice to the beauty of the places I travelled and the wonderful train ride!
We were taking a train from Fredericia to Hamburg and the train got stuck somewhere at the border and we had to take a regional train to hamburg lol at least the train made it tobthe nearest station
I had a similar experience with train breaking down but it was when I was going to Stockholm from Copenhagen. Had to wait for about an hour while they fix it. It was still a pleasant experience waiting in the middle of nowhere (snowy snowy Swedish countryside) on a retro-train that looks like the Hogwarts express from inside the cabin. Haha!
Thanks for sharing tne video, is such train still in operation.? I read from somewhere it has ceased operation. I find it is very imteresting a train can goes intk the ferry.
@@teesquared2024 Never buy on these 3rd party apps , the best price when a German part is involved is to book on bahn.de that is the German Railway and you will get a cheap sparpreis ticket .
@@wkaemena Got it! Amazing! I really appreciate these kinds of information so the next time I visit Germany and nearby countries, I won't be spending more on transportation! I loved Hamburg and I look forward to visiting the other major cities!
My guess is between 80kph - 100kph. I'm not so sure though. The train departed at 7:35am in Copenhagen and arrived at 12:15noon in Hamburg. Though there was a 50-minute ferry ride
Its top speed is 180km/h/112mph (though in this video it mostly stayed around 120 due to the state of the railway lines) and no, the route via the ferry got closed in December 2019. This is due to the fact that the lines on both sides will be closed either partially or fully as they're being reworked and upgraded to handle the higher 200km/h and the increase in traffic from when the Fehmarn Belt tunnel opens in 2029 or later.
Looking at recent prices, it can be as cheap as €30-€40, but many prices are close to €100. Depends how early you book and how popular the train is that day/time.
I took a train from Frankfurt, Germany to Denmark it is the most memorable part of that trip to Germany & Denmark.
I'm so lucky to have experienced the ferry connection before they stopped it. Will be back soon!

Longer route, yet it's 15 minute faster than with the ferry. 😉

@@wkaemena yes, I corrected it now 😊
in 1979 I went to Kopenhagen by train and ferry so the ferry brought the train
took this ride for 11 years to Köln with my Grandma. loved it and missing every step.. and irl its a 3 hour ride...
That sounds a like a really good memory. I hope I can go back to Copenhagen/Germany soon
Went that way, from Gothenburg, to Switzerland, in a hired car. two times ferries, 50+ years ago!
That was a cool adventure! Though I got a comment saying trains no longer board the ship.
@@teesquared2024 That's likely true since the Oresund bridge was built. No business shipping cars....
This trip sounds fascinating! Thanks for the video.

I had done this same trip. Suddenly getting into a boat was quite a surprise and I loved it!!
Same! It was really a pleasant surprise! I enjoyed every minute of the ferry ride knowing that the train was also on board! :)
Thank you so much for this great video! I made the same journey a couple of weeks before you so this is a lovely reminder 😊
Thank you for watching! Can't wait to see the beautiful cities of Northern Europe again. I enjoyed every bit of my stay there before the pandemic.
When I was travel very first time Copenhagen to Humburge 2015 October it’s amazing memorable!!! Quite fair to be alone 🇳🇵
thanks for that great footage!! I enjoyed it a lot!!

Starting the vid off with the DSB jingle… YES!!!
Train sounds are music to my ears! Love the train system and the stations in Copenhagen and Hamburg.
Nice video! I will soon travel by train to Hamburg and this is really good information . Thanks for sharing :)
You wrote that it was Rødby Station when you actually was in Nykøbing Falster

It still runs! It just takes a longer route over a bridge, instead of the shortcut with the ferry. Not as cool, but it's apparently quicker.
You should change the title ! You did not travel in a German train but in a Danish Intercity 3
Thank you for the correction! I will amend the title accordingly. The details I used were from my Omio ticket.
