- Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #597
Date of adventure: 1/3/22
Poking around the exceptionally picturesque old railroad stop of Nipton, California -- just 45 minutes from Las Vegas, and full of weird and wonderful art, old cars and funky historic buildings. One of the best ghost towns I've ever been to!

Hey @WonderHussy, great video!
Just a friendly reminder to those viewing that Nipton is private property. Please seek permission before attempting to investigate or you'll likely be trespassed.
With that said, everyone that has been here by way of seeing this video has been super polite and cool. You have great followers!
Keep up the good work and to all, remember to be respectful when visiting remote areas of the High Desert. And have water with you. :)
Happy exploring!
Thanks for being so cool, Stephen!
@@Wonderhussy Yes Nipton is a special place sad to see the person that burned the last owner still manipulate her to late him stay .. That dude Stephen doesn't have a cool bone in his body. He would pour water in you if you were dying of thirst n the desert... He's a narcissist sociopath that, I don't think he is even capable of making a true statement and finds joy with other peoples suffering at his account.. Speak up about it he will personally or have someone call police and lie to get you arrested even at peak covid time.. Yes i am not a fan of him or any person that objectifies women and controls damaged girls 20 years younger by number but 40 years younger emotionally and psychologically he is nobody. Again not a fan of cowards that use the promise of millions to stay with him and and then be a puppet for the lie of having millions one day..
shut up steven
Nipton is a small town located in southern Mojave Wasteland, ravaged by Caesar's Legion in 2281. After the Great War, it gained a seedy reputation under the leadership of Mayor Joseph B. Steyn. Following the NCR Correctional Facility prison break, Steyn extended a hand to the Powder Gangers letting them know Nipton was open for trade. Steyn was able to arrange servicing NCR soldiers in the night and Powder Gangers in the day and keep the two separated. The town's undoing came when Steyn arranged a deal with Caesar's Legion to turn over both NCR soldiers and Powder Gangers to Vulpes Inculta in return for 8,000 caps.
If I didn't play New Vegas I would have no clue what you were talking about. LOL

I started getting into star gazing in 1999 and my wife and I went to Nipton to stay in the hotel and star gaze. We really like the hotel as it cozy and had really dark skies. For the 2000 New Year celebration we booked a room at the hotel and the hotel owners had the cafe (which was not in operation) opened up for the New Year's celebration by the hotel guests. A grand way to bring in the new millennium. Another neat happening was when a train pulled up short of the highway and the engineers jumped off the train, went into the general store to get soft drinks and sandwiches, and then walked back to the train and drove off. What a hoot!
The New Millenium was in 2001.
Had a friend of the family jump off a BNSF train on the Columbia River near Cape Horn, scrambled down the rock screed to have a beer with my Dad and his Bro! Mid 80’s - innocent but damed cool true story. You stimulated a youth memory of men long gone in a time never to be repeated because of legal liabilities and the super litigious world we live. They all hopped back on the train and headed home. Dads boat was his happy hour bar for sure.
Yes as a railroader myself we get hungry too but drive throughs hate when we take a 16000 foot train through.
@@ToyoteroMundial agree, but the big buzz was y2k, and the world stopping because the computers couldn't handle it
OK, that shopping cart art piece is,officially, the coolest thing I've seen in 2022 so far!
This was a good one. A combination of a cute, quaint town and your wonderful narration. Thanks, Wonderhussy.
The café used to be a great place to get a high stacked burger, fries, and a craft beer. They also sold ice cream which was perfect for a warm day in the desert. We would love to see the town given new life as it was always a place we liked to visit when in the general area. Thanks for the great video!
Zeus the dog?
I have some friends and we would love to buy this place and make it an actual place to stop and rest. Restore the little hotel, café and general store. Looking for capitol backing now.
-11 brrrlow...here i am under my bed blankies watching Wonderhussy at 5 a.m! Frigid Minnesota 🥶🥶
Leann : minus -10 F in Rapid City
-6 here in Milaca was around -27 last night. I hope Febuary is warmer instead of the deep freeze it usually is. Dream on!
Wonderhussy. My favorite real estate agent.
One of reasons I like to watch you is because you can make a laundromat sound interesting !
I really love old schools!
Nipton CA, Come for the art! Stay for the laundromat!
Sarah it’s amazing how the guy built the shopping cart art
Love it when you get back to the exploration Hussy Poo!! 😉💓🎉👍
Wonderhussy, you are a great ambassador for your beloved desert environs. Thanks for this tour. Great place, just needs the right hook. Stay well.❤😎
The best attraction there is You!
I enjoy listening to your voice. Thank you 😊
We need you , Wonder , to take us to the places we can't get to presently 💜✌👍
The carts looked like a roller coaster at first. LOL!
it's like you have your own TV show! Awesome.
Sarah we rented this town for three days every year on April 1st to play cards. We did this until about ten years ago. We played inside the motel. Like I said we would rent the all the rooms in the hotel and also the three cabins in the back it was great. Have fun and be safe and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
My father had a saying regarding small towns like Nipton. He called them 'poke n plumb towns' "Poke your head out the window and you are plumb out a town!"
I love this!! I would have loved to meet your dad.
About 1968, in Las Vegas, I attended Rex Bell Elementary. I had no idea he and Clara Bow were married! You can sure learn a lot from Wonderhussy!!
Mike
sold, yeah, Nipton is Epic, that whole valley bowl area is beautiful.
Can't think of a better place to get "Baked" than good ole Nipton. Another first class video from that hussy girl. Five "stars" I must say!
More More More Good Video's from you Ms. Sara, Thanks for the awsome entertainment!
This is as close as I have seen to your earlier videos in a long time, and i thoroughly enjoyed it.
All I saw of Nipton I like. The art is really cool, especially the shopping cart thing. It reminds me of a carnival ride I helped set up and take down in the late 1960s when I was a teenager , and they came to town. Great Vlog by the ever so wonderful Wonderhussy!
Was hoping you would cover Nipton!
From Australia! And loved our visit there.
Have an awesome picture of me in front of the carts.
Thanks for all the great content 🥰
@Natalie Driscoll you should post your photo🥰🥰🥰
Fantastic video as always. Yes I they are Eucalypts..
This is the sort of thing you see in old outback towns here in Oz, thank goodness for our eucalypts. I live in Australia, they definitely would survive in those areas...you mentioned you didn't think they would survive in such an arid area but they are fantastic for it, shade, greenery...what an amazing town...love your videos never miss them. Cheers from South Australia
I wonder if they were originally grown for rail road ties. The eucalyptus you see growing in places along Highway 99 in the Central Valley of California were originally planted for that purpose but it was later discovered they wrong species was planted so they were left standing to this day, I believe.
@@briang70 They are all over the western states, and I think they were brought in in the late 1800's /early 1900's to be just what they are there in Nipton...wind breaks and shade. Require little water, fairly fast growing, don't seasonally drop all their leaves at once...ideal!
Beg to disagree about the tree's they are IRS trees= You clipped us.
@@jeffmonroe9766 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
Sarah, you're goofy, quirky and even a little bit weird... And that's why I adore you. 🥰 You're my kinda people. We would totally click.
That lil' General store owner was wondering what happened to all of his shopping carts!?
Oh well, time to reorder.......🤦🙄
That window that you look through that table was amazing and I love your awesome amazing crazy weird videos thank you again for sharing
Loved the Hotel California! To cool! I do hope to go explore there. Thanks for sharing your travels I love your videos. I'm on my fourth year of full time travel living in my 25 foot class A Winnebago warrior motorhome with my little dog Tinkerbell. You inspired me 4 years ago and I'm still out here living my dream after beating Cancer! You are amazing!
It is good that someone will be purchasing the property. The artwork was amazing!
wish I had the bucks to buy this place , love everything about this place
That was a fun video!! Thank you for the entertainment every day💖💖
Thanks for the video! Besides groceries, and sodas, snacks, and Ice cream bars for the tourists, the Nipton Trading Post used to carry lots of books about local desert and mining history, as well as local field guides. They also had turquoise jewelry. The cafe had great burgers, and was a fun place for supper after a day of local hiking. On special occasions they had steaks, which was always great.
Nice to see you have your old Spark back..thank you.
I saw a ghost driving an 18 wheeler through there a long time ago. On the way to swap trailers in Jean NV a flash flood washed out the bridge at Zyzzx Road on
I-15. When I got toward the end of town I saw an old lady by a trailer and I'm convinced she was a ghost because she was TRANSPARENT. The rest of my workday w as spent trying to process what I saw. Cool video good job.
You're right WH, some remarkable art works there, especially the shoppingcarts one: looks rather high-tech from afar, but when you get closer and realize it's made out of shoppingcarts ... what a cool surprise! :-)
I rode through Nipton many times ,stopped at the store a few times but never looked around. Thankyou for the tour very interesting.
Sarah I just love ❤️ your educational videos of the ghost town
Thanks for taking us along on your far flung (from me) adventures! That's why we love you!
I think my mom and dad and oldest sister stayed there before in the late 1960s . We have pictures of a place in the desert like that place in the 1960s .
I enjoy watching your vlogs always puts a smile on my face.
Literally about to drive right through there toward Brawley!
Another entry for my Bucket List.I ‘ve been sojourning the 3 Deserts since 1989 and you’re turning me on to stuff I never heard of. My gratitude is sincere and eternal.
The shopping cart antenna is cool let's call some 👽
That Consumer Installation is one of the best pieces of Post-modernist Art I've seen in years. Played Nipton a lot on Fallout, but it definitely looks much prettier in real life.
Enjoyed this episode very much, thank you .
That is a cool little town! I see the same vision you have for it... An artsy, 420 and quiet existence Hotspot. Nice find Wonderhussy!
Always loved stopping while driving through, a quiet and peaceful vibe.
That is a neat place WH!! Can you just imagine the history!
I can’t wait until they open to the public, I love sculptures!!!
The 1912 topographical map shows the depot at the NW corner of where the highway crosses the RR tracks. The 1956 map shows it was gone by then. So the metal building beside the tracks you showed is too far north and likely a warehouse.
oh wow….thanks for showing us Nipton! I always zoom past the sign, but will stop by in the future. Absolutely loved the artwork! Of course the caretaker is going to say you can look around… your charm goes before you😉
Yep blue eucalyptus originated from Australia, love heat just need watered, planted all over my old property now it's a Oasis in the middle of the desert. Such cool place in California I'm shocked, definitely going to need to make that stop.
Man I drove pass that for 3 years seeing the signs for nipon didn't know it was there but beening in a big rig you just can't go down any little road that you wanted to go down. Great 👍 love the story I wish I had the money to buy it.
Supreme first video of the new year Sarah-your standards aren’t slipping -even more quality-🇬🇧💃🏻
OH wow WH! I used to take the Nipton Exit off I-15 and go back over the 15, take a right and head to Cima, Kelso and Amboy and come into 29 Palms and on to Palm Springs. It's the back way through the desert from Las Vegas. LOVED IT! Never been to Nipton tho. Awesome place! You are the best precious person Sarah Jane. Love ya, J
Nice to see you in the new year! I was all tired & burnt out ,,but your vidoe & Spirit has got me up !!
Oh man this is awesome. I love the UFO beetle. Thank you so much for the video.
Wow the shopping cart structure amazing 👏. What a neat lil town. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Have a blessed week 💖 🌟
Love the stories you make up of how the townspeople may have lived and the true stories as well. Your narrative of these historical places is calming and peaceful.
looking on Satellite, it looks like the tee-Pees were falling apart. Looks like a pleasant stop. I love your desert videos but look forward to your future travels too.
Coolest most interesting perspectives on the internet...thanks for the memories Wonderhussy...
Thanks for all the great videos love watching you
Thanks for what you are doing❤❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great video. Maybe the new owners will revive the marijuana camp idea. It really sounded like it would work. Maybe the marijuana guys were undercapitalized or smoked too much to complete the project. The shopping cart art was amazing as well. I wonder how many homeless lost their means of transport to make it. Keep up the good work girl.
As a huge fan of the computer game Fallout: New Vegas, I love that you are actually showing so many of the key locations in the game like Nipton, Primm, and others. Have you visited Goodsprings yet? The Pioneer Saloon is in the game too, and from what I understand once a year the whole place is set upon by all sorts of gamers dressed as characters from the game, as well as more casual "normal" fans. It's not as big or as wild as Burning Man for sure, but it could be worth a visit with lots of photo opportunities. The game has a huge fan base, and I'm sure they would love all your videos as much as I do once they discover them. I'm still catching up on your past work and having a ball doing it. BTW your gummies really work. I haven't slept that well in years.
I stayed in the hotel some years ago. Before all that junk "art" was dumped out there. I don't recall any cafe or saloon at that time. It was real quiet, until the train came. Then it was noisy. Trains at 7 p.m 11 p.m, 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. I think. Very noisy. And long trains, and a lot of train horn, and bells, and trains going in both direction.
You had me at rusty cars and tumble weed....yup
Hello Sarah! One of your fans who followed a lot of your tips and trips going around the US before heading off to Switzerland. Happy new year!
Jodelie ;-)
I think the benches might have come from a railroad crossing. Cool video. I'd like to visit that place.
Definitely concrete railroad crossing sections
Watch out for legion
We have driven the 15 many times and drove by the turn off to Nipton but never went. I’m regretting it now. Super cool. Maybe a year from now go do another video on it’s progress if there will be any! 😊 great video 👍🏻
Thanks for another great one Hussy, I love it!
Amazing video, always so interesting. What a great start to 2022. You look fantastic 👏 😍 ❤
So just watched your nipton California video it was great loved it loved love loved it what a great job 2022 is going to be a fantastic year for you keep up the great work
Those shops all look like they are well stocked. Great video, Sarah.
Thanks! I always wanted to stop and check out this town. The Mojave Preserve is my favorite place.
Just between Nipton and Searchlight is a relatively small area filled with cacti that are unusual for that area. You enter a beautiful Joshua tree forest filled with huge barrel cacti, cholla and prickly pear. Not sure which species the barrel cacti are, but they are by far the largest barrel cacti I have ever seen north of the lower Sonoran Desert. It is a beautiful area and I want to return and study the ecosystem more. I sure hope the motel opens up again. Thank you for making this video. I have stopped and walked around in Nipton several times over the years, but I knew nothing about those Burning Man sculptures. Way cool.
Didn’t searchlight get hit with those bombs a while back
YEAH! Who won the lottery? I DID
On top of your game. You do such great work. Thank you.
Your hair looks fluffy nice again....looks like you did it! I love your videos....and literally check for them every morning. Happy New Year....wishing the best for you.....
Thanks for the tour Sarah
Another neat video Wonder Hussy, your videos on these towns are so cool!
Very enjoyable to join you on this adventure! Thank You!
Thanks so much WH...I love metal art!
It's really a great location. I hope they succeed in bringing it back. That old place saved many travelers back in the day.
Thank you for the vlog of Nipton! I have passed it so many times going to Vegas, and wondered! Now, with you as a guide, I get to visit this nice town. Looking forward to more of your adventures soon. Best wishes and stay safe! 🤙😀
What a cool town!! I knew it was there, never made it to there to see it. Glad you brought us along WH!! Going o have to plan a trip there, maybe by that time it will be out of escrow. Would love to go thru the stores! Very cool, stay safe out there! ❤️❤️❤️
Love the videos. My entire life I have driven past these spots and it's so cool to finally get to see what these remote spots are all about.
This is such a cool town. I love the shopping cart piece.
What a cute little town...
Continuous Consumption....love it!

Awesome series of videos..thanks for posting.
That was fun. Haven't been through Nipton since the nineties. You're a natural. ❤️
Cool place,I hope they open it to the public again. Good call on asking permission to roam the property and make a fun video for all of us to watch.
An interview with the caretaker would have been interesting
Thanks for the Nipton update.. cool place👍🏻
