What I did with my geology degree | 6 YEARS AFTER GRADUATION

I graduated with my geology degree in 2019, this was a challenging degree and I learned a lot about the world and myself during my 4 years at UP. You are so right about geology being overlooked. Yoh guys so much goes into this degree but most industries just don't take us seriously. I remember wanting to apply for the ABSA quants programme and literally every physical sciences degree including geography was literally part of the requirements. It was only geology sana that was not there. It's so hard to convince people that we have great analytical skills and can do any job because everybody thinks we are just chilling and looking at rocks the whole day. Nonetheless, thank you for sharing your journey. I'm motivated to start applying.

I think I also tried applying for that programme, I even had an updated profile on the system ABSA used to hire graduates. And I couldn’t apply for anything because I didn’t meet the degree requirements. That degree was a challenge Thandi, yoh 🧘🏽‍♀️

The last part about looking at rocks all day is funny 😂. Truthfully speaking any BSC degree is relevant because you bring analytical thinking and problem solving skills to the role. Problem is the recruiters who don't understand the core curriculum of the degree itself.

Geophysics studies the Earth's structure and processes using physical principles like gravity and seismic waves. Geohydrology focuses specifically on groundwater systems and their interactions with geological formations.
I honestly cannot say anything on the demand ey, it’s tough right now 🫠
