Franz Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsodie No.2 - Sylvain Blassel, harp

- Written in 1847, the second Hungarian Rhapsody is probably one of the most popular pieces written by Liszt.
The whole work is fully inspired by Gipsy traditional music. It starts with the Lassan, which solemnity really contrasts with the following Friska full of joy, happiness and incredibly virtuoso.
Sylvain Blassel is the first harpist to play entirely the second Hungarian rhapsody. His transcription is very close from the original version apart from the tone and a few short sections slightly modified for a better effect at the harp.
Sylvain Blassel plays this time on an 1898, Gothic styled Erard harp (Paris branch).

That is very difficult. Impressive

Josh Deffenbaugh is it?
I really like how this showcases the lowest register of the harp in the first half; it's not often that you get to hear those notes so exposed!
I think this is probably some of the most impressive harp playing I have heard. I play a small lever harp, but this is Something Else.
I'm allmost speechless. How stunning! And so rare to hear a harpist use so many colours to get the right athmosphere. Never heard an Erard before. Suddenly your is in the 19th century.
Thank you so much for uploading.
Am I the only one thinking that the shadow looks like it's playing a piano?
i have no name to think of today smh ♡
NO!
My Dad so passionately could play this on the piano. 💔 Miss your gift, Dad, Harry Coyle Foard
I swear when he began the friska part with the up octave bounces, I was sure it's piano background sound
Lol it really does look like it
YES
I love classical music with this eastern influence. Just beautiful. Nothing like it.
romantic music*
Excellent rendition.....and on that harp with the straight sounding board, the way he plays the 'dry' sound closer to the sounding board AND how he plays it.....I hope that harpists WATCH his technique to NOT ONLY get the 'notes' BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THE SOUND
placeksue the 'dry' sound that all harpist should listen to is just a basic technique that harpist are taught quite early on, it's when you play closer to the sound board we often use it to make the piece sound less muddy and clean like he uses it here!! :))))

So incredibly wonderful.... and the harp sounds really beautiful like a bell but round and warm but brilliant and clear also ! (This is a pedaling nightmare! Not to mention having to use the little finger...which we never use!)
I've heard Hungarian Rapsode before.
There's something addictive about it this time.

와....
HI, is there a score for this? Thanks and outstanding performance!
hhholy shit this is damn good
@AdalineLove Totalement d'accord! Et Liszt lui-même jouait bien du Bach, non?
Dear God...heavenly
Is there any sheet music available? I have researched - can't find anything??? Please let me know - I would like something like this as a "show stopper" ....
Does anyone know whether there are tapes of this artist available?

5:45 totally shocked me
Amazing! My compliments! Which harp is it? It sounds beautiful. :)
a world class male harpist is a unicorn.
Dear master, when are you coming to play concerts in switzerland?
Most harp players are boring even with a great technique. You sound fantastic!
5:15
That’s virtuoso level
You remind me of Adam Gyorgy.
C'est volontaire de jouer les cordes très bas au début, pour sonner un peu comme un cymbalum ?
Just to set the record straight. Harpo marx never performed this song. It was beyond his abilities. He had harpist Robert Maxwell play it for him and he mimed it for the camera.. He also did not give Robert Maxwell any credit. The song was played in Night in Casablanca. Info from American Harp Journal Winter 2012 volume.
I have been saying this since the article came out. I have been written off as delusional.
Why does he use his pinky to pull the low C at 0:49? That's not really a thing that I've seen harpists do.
Hannah L yeah we're not suppose to use it but I think he use it to be a bit faster
@@heidia6873 But it's faster to use the ring finger, since it has longer reach :v
we'll all be playing the harp ourselves, lets learn something from the masters first!
