    As a 60+ woman I have become increaingly respectful of my grandmothers routine. She always shmeared oil into her cuticles at night as well as used vasoline on her body after bathing. She lived to 102 and, as a very fair skinned person, had gorgeous skin until her passing. I have also noted that the dry patches on my body are significantly reduced when using vasoline at night. It is heartening to hear that science concurs with tradition

Still have a lot of work to do on his feet and legs. Going to try this. His skin is the most damaged I've even seen skin that wasn't burned.

    This method really helped me when I had very bad hand eczema while working in healthcare during Covid. Every time I had to use hand sanitizer, it was horribly painful. The dermatologist kept prescribing me steroids, and it would make it go away for a little while always to come back. Finally, I found one of the research articles online. It took about two weeks to fix but it definitely has not come back not an easy process, but brought me so much relief as I had been struggling with this for several months.

      The biggest difference for my skin overall was a phytoceramide supplement (wheat based).

    • @KittenBowl1
      @KittenBowl1 10 місяців тому

      I’ve used filters and definitely reduces irritation for those who have extreme dry sensitive skin. I’ve also used vitamin C shower where it release vitamin C and this I found it be more helpful as it neutralizes chlorine and for someone with eczema like myself and very dry skin I found this to be very helpful not to get irritated skin in winter time more than filter kind which tends to be expensive. I love steamer for face though. And we can’t forget humidifier for our skin in dry winter.

    As a 59 year old postmenopausal female, I sleep in silk and on a silk pillowcase specifically because silk doesn't absorb what I've applied to my skin the way that cotton does. It acts more like cling wrap, but is comfortable to sleep in. One of the greatest benefits reaped so far is wrapping my smeared neck in a silk sleep mask. WOW! Unfortunately, silk is terribly expensive when compared to cotton. Thumbs up, Dr. Dray!

    Funnily enough, it was Dr Dray who also suggested a much-less aggressive variation hereof: every time after I shower, I get out of the shower wet, slather on Cerave (which contains petrolatum), and let it dry. I get an incredible amount of compliments how supple and smooth my skin always feels!

    • @pearlspetals5542
      @pearlspetals5542 10 місяців тому +3

      @@diannematthews7409 I’m a senior staff advisor at a university hospital, and I discussed this technique with a colleague - a dermatologist. He had never heard of this method (but in his defence, Cerave was introduced here fairly recently), but after trying, he’s a convert! I’ve suggested it to a number of people with various barrier issues and it works every time! (Especially if you also avoid fabric softeners). Furthermore, it saves a lot of time and laundry: all you need is an old t-shirt to wrap around your hair. I know it sounds odd but for some reason, the combination of water and Cerave dries within minutes: in fact I brush my teeth, and by the time I’m done, I’m dry.

    Yes! This is great advice. What's not to love? Soothing and pampering self-care - effective & affordable, too! I do this when my calves are ashy and itchy in the winter. For my feet 1-2x a week soak, then Kerasal & cotton gloves overnight. For my hands, AmLactin lotion every day, with cotton gloves overnight, or cotton gloves + nitrile gloves for wet work/gardening. My hands used to be dry, chapped and sore with painful cracked cuticles, esp. in winter. Now my skin is soft, silky and calm and my hands and nails are healthy and smooth. Personal anecdote: one summer when I was kid riding in a car with my arm against open window, ( before air conditioning!) the skin got really painfully dry. I don't do the bathes as much as, now I just stand and rotate under the shower for an extra song or two (it helps if your listening to music ;) ). I do this at least once a week in the evening and maybe again if I'm WFH or having a lazy weekend. I layer plain unscented petroleum jelly over my moisture (la roche posay eczema cream). I have other Rx ointments from my derm but try to avoid using on the same days, especially in the summer. Hopefully this helps someone!

Coconut oil is less greasy and I can use all day, since I don't wear makeup any longer unless I go somewhere. Both are good, I have also used Castor Oil. Also good. I get hot flashes in pajamas so I don't wear them. My face has one very dry spot and almost a pigment loss. Does not itch, but looks bad. I find myself still putting petroleum jelly on it during the day. It is like it my outer skin is trying to grow back almost like a scab. It is SO weird. My hands seem to grow these dry spots on them almost like warts. I smooth them off and I'm good. I am now letting them produce until I can get to a point to show a doctor to find out why they keep coming back and go that route. 67 in Texas.

Flew out a specialist because they couldn’t get an IV in him because he was so chunky they couldn’t find a vein to pump fluids to heal him. 2 days of torcher the specialist comes in and gets the IV in and the smother him in vaseline and warp him in plastic. The next day the sores literally wiped off like magic. The cure was this method ❤

    This is perfect. I have vasoline and i will try. Thanks for the tips on how to take a bath so I don't keep damaging my skin. I will lower the temp of water and shorter and take out the body wash stuff. No wonder why my skin is dry because I have the water to hot, and stay to long in the bath, and put all kinds of wash and soaps in the water. Ok... time to change it to get my skin back in shape. Thank you Dr. Dray.

    I used your advice about a cool mist humidifier, which helps. This winter season I'm using Cerave Body cream on my upper body and Cerave Healing ointment on my legs. With the retinol and glycolic acid I use on my face; my face (mostly my forehead)) became so itchy that I couldn't stop scratching. So I stopped that routine on my face for now and am using Good Molecules B5 serum followed by Avene XeraCera AD. So for 2 nights and days it lessen the itch. I will continue this on my face until the itch completely stops.

    I have to admit, doing the soak and smear method as a child was extreme uncomfortable. However, as an older adult battling uncontrolled eczema all over, simply patting dry after after a shower then smearing with white petroleum jelly has definitely made a difference. I scratch in my sleep, but don't seem to have evidence of that scratching in the morning.

      Ohhh the night scratching..I had a partner with eczema and he used to scratch in his sleep and it was awful to watch. He would rip his skin off. @@mikey3387 It's a horrible thing to deal with, I'm so sorry. Unfortunately I don't have any helpful advice, I learnt from my previous partner that there were only short-term treatments and that they just don't necessarily work. The only constructive thing that actually helped was that we figured out that he had flares when he was stressed, it's pretty impossible to avoid stress but his skin would basically be ok if he could keep his stress under control. I really hope that you keep improving and find a good way to manage it 🙏 you have my thoughts x

    • @KalisBunny
      @KalisBunny 10 місяців тому +2

      Absolutely. These are her recommendations from an older video, but I still like the products very much because my skin is both dry and it breaks out. So for washing I use the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser* and then I immediately go on with Deep Moisture hypoallergenic body lotion from Neutrogena** after the face dries almost completely. I live in a cold and dry climate so that my skin gets red and dry even if I wash every day in the winter, so I honestly wash my face every 48 hours or so until the skin calms down because I'm trying to introduce Differin gel as a retinol treatment every other day and there is also a video on how to apply that (you have to first put the lotion and even Aquaphor/vaseline on sensitive areas of the face) but I still get some redness around the eye area so I might switch out to pure vaseline and try that agin. In Europe you have to get a prescription for Differin but it's over-the-counter in some other countries. Hope this helps, check out her older videos for more detail.

      If you are acne prone you shouldn’t be following the advice specifically for dry skin people. In dermatology vaseline shouldn’t be used on people with acne prone and oily skin, it’s mostly likely going to worsen your condition. Cetaphil is for dry sensitive skin people and not for acne prone oily skinned people.

    • @KittenBowl1
      @KittenBowl1 10 місяців тому +1

      Btw, if you want blemish to be gone you should really avoid any petroleum based products including mineral oil and petrolatum (vaseline). It would clog pores. Instead you should use products that contain light oils or even oil free in summer especially. Light oils are jojoba oil, grape seed oil, evening primrose oil etc. Exception of jojoba, other oils are rich in linoleic and linolenic fatty acid that will give you a very light feeling on skin. And avoid mineral oil, vaseline, olive oil, squalene oil and coconut oil as these will clog your pores. These oils are great for dry skin people. You need to use different products for acne prone skin.

Gonna try soaking and smearing with fewer soap washes. Bandages on leg to keep stuff out and less irritation from clothing. Skin appeared to mold at one point under bandages 😮 😢

    I never had a really dry skin but I always wanted my body to feel smoother and softer. It was always a struggle for me because I couldn’t tolerate any lotions on my skin. I just hated this feeling. I tried so many “light” moisturizers but still couldn’t establish a routine I can enjoy until I met my husband. He was using baby oil (it comes in oily gel consistency). I couldn’t understand how he could tolerate this stuff on his body . It is very thick. He said “you don’t do it right. You should apply right after showing while your skin is still damp”. It was a game changer… this oil starts “melting” on your wet skin when you apply it. After I use towel to absorb extra. It doesn’t feel heavy, it even doesn’t feel that I have something on my skin. Just feels nice. Now the whole process makes even more sense for me after your explanations
