John Mayer is a phenomenal guitar player and a great singer...also a watch guy which gives him extra points...but, Kotzen is a combination of Chris Cornel singing, Petrucci level shredding when he bothers to use a pick and Beck/Knopfler level when he goes fingerstyle. He is next level. He should be more successful.
I concur! Both are great in their own way. No disrespect to John Mayer, but he is not on Richie Kotzen's level as a guitarists and ESPECIALLY as a vocalist (no comparison). That strong raw edged, raspy , soulful vocal range that Richie has is very rare. His voice just keeps getting better and better ever since his Mother Heads Family Reunion days. Thank God for Terence Trent D'arby for inspiring Kotzen to get this type of vocal range!
Richie has soul. He grew up in Philly so he was around the sound of Philly and Hall and Oates etc. but it’s obviously something he was born with. Just lucky regarding talent re guitar and voice.
