Never made one
Not a stock wheel for the Monte Carlo. You have 15x8 Rally wheels that came on the Corvette. Stock for the Monte Carlo would be 15x7 Rally wheel.
Absolutely beautiful Monte. I have collected Monte Carlos for over 20 years. But you do know Chevrolet never released a SS in 1972. Yes you could get all the options available from the previous 1970 and 1971 SS models, but it was never factory released or titled as a SS. In1972 the SS was replaced by the "Custom". Just sharing some info, but still very nice Monte.
Chevrolet did not make an SS454 in '72 the performance option in '72 was the CUSTOM package with the 454 powertrain.
SS monte carlo was 454 turbo jet carb. 402. Big block. Not SS monte carlo one dam nice monte carlo sir. She is nice thank you for bringing her to youtube
My uncle used to be the proud owner of a 1970, Monte Carlo SS and his got all the SS emblems with the SS logos on the wheels and the SS emblems all over from the factory a very and unique monte Carlo SS with the 350, cubic inch in it 😢
There were 3823 SS Montes made for '70, and 1919 made for '71. All had an LS5 454 inch motor and a TH400 transmission. The only SS emblems on the '70 discreet and were on the lower fender trim. For '71, there was an added SS emblem on the tailpanel, plus a couple of other SS specific items on the tailpanel and the rear bumper. There was never an SS with a 350 and SS on the wheels. The car you're referring to was obviously modified after leaving the factory.
There is no 72 SS
I bought a ‘72 Monte Carlo in the summer of 1973. I was 18 and working, but my dad got the loan and I made the payments. IIRC, the price was $3200. It was yellow with a black vinyl top and black cloth bench seats- 350 V8 with a four barrel carb. I paid it off in one year and headed to college. Among all the cars I have owned over the years, that Monte Carlo was the best one. I often wonder what became of that beautiful auto.
My older brother, being a pack rat, parked his car in my parent’s garage when he married in 1972. His ‘66 Chevelle SS is still there to this day. His wife made him give up his hot rod, and he’s refused to entertain any offers.
Wow, What a Story.....These Classics Really Bring Back the Memories for Lots of People including Me :-)
nice car but just so you know, they didn't make a monte ss in 72. all you could get was a monte custom.
For one it is not a 72 SS GM did not make a 72 SS the years for the SS were 1970 and 1971, both years they had ss emblems on the lower rocker panel on the front fender and one on the rear right below where it said Monte Carlo. What he has is a 1972 Monte Carlos Custom and the biggest engine you could get that year was a 402 big block. Sorry to bust his bubble but there is no such thing as a 1972 SS
Absolutely correct. And, if I remember right, the only engine offered for a 70/71 Monte Carlo SS was the 454.
Correct about no SS454 in '72. You are incorrect about the SS on the rear of the 1970 Monte. '71 had it, '70 did not. Mine is a '70. Another thing, yes, you could absolutely get a 454 from the factory in a '72. Many were built that way. Some also had the Custom package, some did not. This car may have the Custom option, but the sail panel emblems have been removed. It would have had the both the Monte Carlo script and the Custom emblem there if it was a Custom.
@@gregnorton3718 You are right about the Super Sport for '70 and '71. The SS454 is what the package was called and the 454 with a TH400 automatic was the only combination you could get in a Monte Carlo SS454.
@@danjanes8689 My sister bought a 365HP SS 454 Monte Carlo new in 1971. Loved that car! Wish she'd have kept it!
@ Dan Janes - if you ever looking to sell yours I'm in the market to buy an SS
Might not be a genuine SS, but those bucket seats add a ton of value. It is extremely difficult to find 1972 Monte Carlos with anything other than bench seats.
Hi Nice looking car. I own an original 1972 402 bucket seat console car, with ps, pw, tilt , factory tach , rear defrost , rallies and the leveling system , all original in midnight bronze . You car is nice but not rare since one it’s not an SS , never made in 72 and second it’s not numbers match . You have a chevelle dash in it . Mine is one of 181 cars just with the 402 and one of less than that with the options I have . Let’s just sell yours as a nice 72 monte
Hate when people say 72 SS or put SS badges on a 72 car.....
Like others on here have said, there was no 1972 Monte Carlo SS. It was called the Custom. One thing they are wrong about though is that unlike 70 and 71 where the SS came only with the 454, in 72 you could get a Monte Carlo Custom with any of the four engine offerings; two 350’s, the 402 or the 454. My question is, why tout this car as numbers matching, then misrepresent what it is, then remove all the exterior chrome pieces and alter the stock dash? If you want to make a big deal about it being a numbers matching car, then leave the damn thing stock. And if you’re changing all these things, why the hell would you send the “original” wheels to California to get widened? Why not just buy a wider set of rally II’s? After all, your “original” wheels aren’t original anymore anyway. Personally, I think a lot of what’s portrayed in this video is a big lie.
Well Said Rogermurph101. I hate it when people don't know there facts, I just shake my head now and walk away as it always turns into an argument If I correct them. I agree the owner that used to have the car is a joke. I sent the original wheels in to have them widened? Ok
No such thing as a 72 Monte Carlo SS the best you could do in 72 was called custom
Any '72 could be ordered with a 454. True, there was no SS454 package offered after '71, but a Custom could be had with any of the 4 available engines. 454s were put in Montes through the '75 model year
ME TOO! I was born in 1972 as well. Today is my birthday! 7-12-1972 This car is gorgeous!
Got a 70 72 and 79 I enjoy them so much
lol, they never made a 402SS
Lovely. Such great cars if a little under appreciated.
Wow had a 1972 Monte Carlo with the 402 when I was 17 and it was mean.
Might not be stock, but would look SO GOOD with redline tires.
72 monteCarlo know SS it's a 402 Only the 454 is the true SS 70and 71.Guy don't know what he has.
Stop sign, what the hell's a stop sign?
Thanks, alot of work went into this car :-)
They didn't make a Monte SS in '72.
I like the the way you've done that dash better than the fake wood they came with.
I had a 1972 monte carlo just like it with a 402 Lt1 motor and it was a dark choc. brown but it's not an SS.
And if it was the original motor it was NOT and LT or LS, it was just a big block Chevrolet.
@@remowilliams623 Not true. LS3 was the designation for the 402. I have build sheets showing it.
As far as I know there wasn't a SS made in 72 and I didn't see any decals. Also no tach.
Correct. No SS cars had a 402, and the SS454 package was dropped for '72. I have a '70 SS454 that I've restored.
There's no such thing as an SS in '72. derp
Sounds like its loose somewhere.
Sounds like an A/C bearing going out.
No rust ! Wow !
It’s a manual with a shift kit?
Yes, we know...
It's a Tribute to a SS..
Thanks,
Mike
I hate to bust your bubble, Chevrolet NEVER made a 72 SS in 72 they change the name to Custom. And the biggest engine you could get in one was a 402 big block
Not entirely true.
The 454 was available in a Monte through the '75 model year. The SS454 package ended with '71, but the 454 was still offered.
Thats why it says tribute in the title genius
It doesn't say 'tribute' in the title.
In the video he says 1972 Monte Carlo ss which they did not make one that year.
There is NOW!!!! CUSTOM
HAha, everyone called you out bro.. not an SS... see my 2 vids on the history of the Monte and SS!!
I had an original 70 SS Green/Green
i have owned three One 70 and two 71s My brother had a 70, 72
No 72 SS ONLY MADE SS IN 1970, with 454 .
3823 SS454s were made for '70 and 1919 SS454s were made for '71. Yes, the SS454 option was available for 2 years.
72 never came ss

that is Not an Ss They did Not make Ss in 72 Plus its missing chrome pices in 72 They Made Monte Carlo custom came with 402
The Custom was available with any of the 4 engines offered for '72.
it a really nice car but not a ss sorry
Wow, sounds like a beast! How much did you get for it?
The 1st gen cars are beautiful, but I'm bias, I own a 1970.
Need this *-*
ss as a tribute or not. it's only a Custom
how long did it take to remake
How much did you sell this car for?
is it really worth it.not tha popular
Ran a stop sign at 5:08 lol < but Awesome car!
There were NO 1972 SS Monte Carlos ever built. 1970 and 1971 were the only years the SS were made, in 1972 they care were called Cutom. The Last years of the Monte Carlo SS was 1971 and they Built 1919 of them. I have one that is in pristine shape. it you don't believe me Call Gm History Dept. They can tell you if that Dept. still exist. While I was in the process of restoring my I became friends with the man on the assembly line that later became the plant manager. All 1971 Monte Carlos were built in the Leeds Plant in Kansas City. The serial number started off with 138571K.. My Monte Carlo SS 454 is believe to be the last SS built. I was told by GM that if it was not the last one it was and I quote."damn close to it, because is was one of the last 7792 built for that year," which by the way was in 1972. GM's Leeds plant went out on strike the 3rd week in July and it held up production of all Monte Carlos." I bought mine from the original owner with 70 thousand miles on it. Mine was a numbers matching car, but the Engine Code showed it to be a 72. The 72 Autos were already on the show room when the rest of the 1971's showed up.
What are the engine stamped codes on your motor? I'd like to decode the assembly date, and all of the other letters and numbers that are stamped on the deck. Interesting.
@@danjanes8689 Sorry i don't have that infor any more due to a house fire, i know my motor was numbers matching, the strange thing was the engine showed to be a 72, that plant went on strike in July of 71 Kansas City.
the serial number i know by heart, 138571K238168
Wouldnt mind havent one tho!!!
I have one
stop signs.blah
72’ in the front. 70’ in the rear. If you restored this car. You should have done a little more research.👎

There is no such thing as a '72 Monte Carlo ss! It would be a '72 Monte Carlo CUSTOM, NOT SS, this is a total misrepresentation of an ss or a custom, nothing is right even for a clone! PASS...
The Custom was a new option package for '72, but it was available with any of the 3 motors. It was not a direct replacement for the SS454 package.
We just got in a 1971 Monte Carlo, 402, 4 Speed with Factory A/C!
Take a look at our website WeBeAutos dot c o m

Fake car fake year
nicest you've ever seen? This car looks like shit. I could pick it apart if you like...not much original left there.
I didn't say that it's the Most Correct, Original Monte I've ever seen and for $8,500 it's a Fantastic Deal...If you want an All Original one I have this 1970 Monte SS....ua-cam.com/video/I3GzeW4jx3k/v-deo.html
Buy you did say the nicest you've seen. I grew up riding on one and as a teen it became mine.
Unfortunately a semi with failing brakes to hit me. So I guess your black Monte outlived mine. You win.
.WeBe Autos and yes these days that's a good price.
that is Not an Ss They did Not make Ss in 72 Plus its missing chrome pices in 72 They Made Monte Carlo custom came with 402
The Custom option didn't include a specific engine. A Custom could be bought with any of the 4 engines available for '72. Two 350s, a 402, or a 454. The non-Custom cars also had the same 4 engines available.
that is Not an Ss They did Not make Ss in 72 Plus its missing chrome pices in 72 They Made Monte Carlo custom came with 402
The Custom was available with the 350, 402, and 454.
