I found "River Lea" to be the highlight of 25, mostly because it was one of the few songs on that album that didn't sound quite so same-y in terms of themes and composition. Why that song wasn't released as a single is beyond me. When We Were Young is still great, mind.
If you're ever running out of ideas for videos this year and need something that'll rack up a buncha views, you should do a Top 10 Worst Of list for either 2006 or 2007, both years where probably most of your fans first got into listening to the radio (such as myself), but also 2 years where some of the worst songs of the entire decade came out. These were also 2 of my favorite years for Top 40 radio music, there were a lot of excellent songs on the radio as well, but Christ was the bad stuff REALLY bad. So yeah, just an idea for ya!
It’s the ballads that get radio play and become hits. But, not unlike Gaga, her album tracks also get good. Presumably, the rise of streaming hits will start reflecting that
Broadway Neophyte it wasn't a metaphor, it was a bad translation in one of the countries it was released in...which they just that was funny and rolled with
Tried to make a Spotify playlist of all of Todd's best of lists since 2010. Got ruined last year by 2 Taylor Swift songs and was further ruined this year by a song from Lemonade. The completionist in me hates you Todd, but otherwise, you're awesome, keep it up.
Taylor pulled herself out of Spotify because they were paying her too little after each play of her songs on Spotify. And Bey's "Lemonade"... her Spotify page still displays the "currently working on it and hopefully it will be here soon" message... I wonder how soon is now- I mean, how soon is that "soon"?
Todd, thank you so much for calling "When We Were Young" the highlight of the album. I feel like it's superior to Hello but everyone pays attention to that song instead.
rodycaz no it was an okay year for me personally. I meant for the world, it was a shit year. all the talent lost, all the horrible decisions....it was crap.
FlyBoy society says that. society is the one that suspends black girls for having dreads or natural hair or braids. do a google search and see how fucking prolific that is. they are being SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE HAIR GROWS OUT OF THEIR HEAD, AND THE STYLES THAT ARE NATURAL FOR THEIR HAIR! and that is just one aspect of this violent societal machine that insists only white-like hair is beautiful, why do you think so many black women wear weaves and wigs, sometimes to the point of destroying their natural hair in the process? because no one wants your natural hair. no one wants you to go to school with it, no one wants you to go to a job interview with it, no one wants it. it's seen as dirty, as subpar, as ghetto, and you're not going to get anywhere unless you hide it from your teachers or your employers because people are fucking racist. no one wants to admit that, because it makes them feel bad, but that's the literal definition of racism and it needs to stop. you'd have to be incredibly dense to think society doesn't frown on non-whiteness. that's not even going into the "becky" part of "becky with the good hair", like nonwhite societies the world over don't sell skin lightening creams and frown on dark skin. colonialism has tainted the ENTIRETY of this planet and the effects are not only really sad but incredibly plain to see. yes, all hair is beautiful. tell the world that. thanks.
My favorite “both sides” breakup song is Nothing Better by Postal Service. The female comes in with “CHARTS AND GRAPHS” to lecture the guy on why she broke up with him.
10. I love Coldplay. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends is one of my two favorites album, and is a modern classic. This song does not stack up to it, but this song is still great. So is Paradise. 9. Sorry is a fine enough, but i feel like Beyonce has more man bashing songs than Adele has breakup songs. 8. Drake, go back to Canada. And take modern Rihanna with you. 7. One of the catchiest, most infectious songs of recent years. I try to ignore the lyrics. I also totally agree that the clean version is much better. 6. I also agree that this was the best song from the album. Deserves a spot, but it's not Rolling in the Deep.
So glad to see your best of the year list! The worst of the year always feels like a punch to the face, and then this list comes along to comfort you. Thank you so much!

I love everyone bitching about how awful the last 5 or 6 years were. Bitch, 2020 is a BAD year, everything else was bumps in the road, 2020 is a DISASTER year to remember. THIS is what a bad year looks like.
I always really liked Coldplay. My parents' old car only had about two CDs in them, Coldplay being both, and we used to take these day-long drives from the capital and out to visit our family on the west coast of Norway. As we lost the radio signal and the world outside got dark because we were close to the polar circle, my dad would crank out the early Coldplay CDs, and my sister and I would wake up from a half-sleep in the backseat to look at the street light on the other side of the fjords. I don't actually know if any of the early Coldplay music is any good, but every time I listen to them I remember those dream-like drives and it makes me very nostalgic.
I'm often ridiculed because I don't like her. She has two songs: "That ___ is shit and not worth my time!" (Insert man, friend, government, white dudes as needed) and "OMFG YOU ARE THE BEST MAN EVA AND WE ARE DA PERF COUPLE!!!!1!" With Christina Aguilera levels of "Look at how big my vocal range is!!!" thrown in. I'm just annoyed my her to be honest.
Maybe that would be relevant a couple years ago, but at this point, it's just not. Lemonade consistently deals with more than any of what you just suggested (the relationship drama she discusses is significantly more nuanced than you give it credit for), and the production is insanely impressive. Anyone who thinks 'Freedom' isn't an absolutely exceptional work needs to re-evaluate their Beyoncé dislike.
Callum Hofler Exactly. Lemonade is an amazing album and Sorry is such a nuanced song with some of the strangest yet great production I've heard in some time. I gave up hating her because she's releasing quality work & the growth is evident. Anyway, me hating her won't accomplish anything in the end 'cause I'm pretty sure it won't affect her at all.
Speaking of Adele singing about growing old at 25: I liked how fun’s “We Are Young” got big and Nate even quipped at the Grammys (I think?) about how they were not actually all that young anymore. (He was 30.) To me, comparing growing “old” vs one’s youth is, at first, more about recognizing a change in yourself and your life than tallying time passed. But the other kind of feeling “old” has everything to do with the passage of time, regardless of what you personally go through, due the inevitable change in the world around you. But that’s a feeling of being left behind, or honestly more specifically for me it’s a feeling of being replaced, while the other is a feeling of having come through something. Both are hitting me harder and harder. But to touch back on “We Are Young”, was that the big Class of 2013 graduation song that year? (There’s always something.) My year was Closing Time, though Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) was also still big. I felt bad who the kids who got stuck with that Vitamin C song. And now you know how old I am!
Spoilers: I honestly liked this list. Surprisingly. The only downside: No TØP or Roses (Though he did say it might as well have been an honourable mention)
Cake by the Ocean and Adventure of a Lifetime are still jams for me to this day. I listen to them when I need a burst of energy. And personally I hate censored songs so I gravitate towards uncensored Cake by the Ocean but maybe I'm missing something there and it secretly slaps. Still huge jams and will give me the pick me up I need

I found "River Lea" to be the highlight of 25, mostly because it was one of the few songs on that album that didn't sound quite so same-y in terms of themes and composition. Why that song wasn't released as a single is beyond me.
When We Were Young is still great, mind.
Oh my god yes I got too watch it this time! Please don't get removed again!
I caught it while it was still up!
You know it was a bad year when I forgot I was watching a BEST of list half way through.
Now I wonder how he's gonna do a list for this year lmao
"I can have another you in a minute" - translation Beyonce has bad taste in men, and doesn't learn from her mistakes.
yikes - B shoulda re-read that lyrics sheet
I dunno, 'can' and 'will' aren't exactly synonymous.
"In fact,
He'll be here
In a minute"
I just don't know 'bout her.
Fair 'nuff. I hadn't actually heard the song.
So yeah, just an idea for ya!
love this list like absolutely- and the coldplay concert was honestly beautiful!
I sure wish I could be invited to the concert mainly because of the part of the ground with changing colours! XD
Kieran Stark it was an experience for sure
I feel like Adele could do so much with her voice but people keep begging her for ballads
Catsie101 There are bops on her records if you listen to the other songs. 🤔
It’s the ballads that get radio play and become hits. But, not unlike Gaga, her album tracks also get good.
Presumably, the rise of streaming hits will start reflecting that
Wow, there's a lot of people mad about Todd liking a Beyoncé album here.
Joe..... Jonas?
Wonder if he's going on a Bizarre Adventure soon.
Vernula You thought it was joe Jonas, but it was ME, DIO!
Mfw so asexual I thought DNCE were actually singing about eating cake
You innocent person. :3
Broadway Neophyte don't worry you're not the only one. I thought so too 😐
Broadway Neophyte same
I didn't even know they were saying "cake", I thought they were saying "kick"... kicking back at the beach, how fun for us all!
Broadway Neophyte it wasn't a metaphor, it was a bad translation in one of the countries it was released in...which they just that was funny and rolled with
when we were young made me cry the first time i heard it, and i still love it so much, so i thank you for recognizing it as the best one off the album
I loved Cake by the Ocean, even if the lyrics were mediocre. Doesn't seem like Todd liked it, though. He barely said anything positive about it.
Well it would be hard to try and find 10 songs that you genuinely liked, especially in 2016
I'm still holding out. My realm will never bow to Beyonce!
Same here, but that album of hers was genuinely very good.
Never liked any of her songs, never will
She's overrated, just like her husband.
Napalm Blaziken you don't have to bow down to her. I don't know where y'all get that from but at least respect her music and talent.
Belz and ? How would you know you would never like her music? And have you even heard any of her unreleased tracks?
"Started feeling old at age 17. thats everyone, right?"
.... actually yeah. That's exactly right.
All the stuff about it being a bad year is very interesting looking back from 2020
Tried to make a Spotify playlist of all of Todd's best of lists since 2010. Got ruined last year by 2 Taylor Swift songs and was further ruined this year by a song from Lemonade. The completionist in me hates you Todd, but otherwise, you're awesome, keep it up.
AlexReynard I like the song ok, but Taylor does not let Spotify have her music
Oh, ok. That makes sense then.
Well she's back now
Todd, thank you so much for calling "When We Were Young" the highlight of the album. I feel like it's superior to Hello but everyone pays attention to that song instead.
He acknowledged TiTS!
@blackrave404 TiTS = Todd in The Shadows
I don't understand the love for Beyonce at all. Her songs tend to be vapid and self-absorbed.
Basically, she's the female watered down version of Kanye West.
FrostySumo I can't get behind songs/albums explicitly about the singer and the singer's life. That's the main reason I could never get into Kanye.
Drew Ferro How do we get to learn more about the artists if they never tell us anything about themselves?
Drew Ferro I thought 'Power' was okay.
+The Brimley But she doesn't produce anything.
I honestly like Coldplay. Even Yellow and Trouble. I was young when I first heard it so it holds a special place in my heart.
CakeTodd. I was not ready for CakeTodd. I could handle Todd Pan, but not CakeTodd.
?
Todd do got that cake tho
Ahh I remember the time when my school decided to play cake by the ocean on the intercom. My god I was laughing all the way to my next class.
People who say 2016 was a horrible year really lack perspective.
rodycaz Can someone please tell me why 'special snowflake' is an insult
Ex Team Rocket Grunt dude it was a shit year and I'm a cancer survivor. worst year ever? no. but it was shit. no perspective needed.
rodycaz no it was an okay year for me personally. I meant for the world, it was a shit year. all the talent lost, all the horrible decisions....it was crap.
Ex Team Rocket Grunt agreed its was not that bad compared to other years
Ex Team Rocket Grunt worst year ever. rip harambe
Oh, Todd, my man. I am feeling old at 12, you can't top that.
you know Becky with the good hair is a reference to a white woman, and how white hair is considered "good"
Jonatan Nilsson Oh Todd
There's a big difference between "white" hair and "blonde" or "Caucasian" hair.
Jonatan Nilsson lol who tf said that that's putting yourself down all hair can be beautiful
i mean sorry but it's like, an established thing. it's one of those unfortunate standards of beauty in the west that lauds white women over blacks.
FlyBoy society says that. society is the one that suspends black girls for having dreads or natural hair or braids. do a google search and see how fucking prolific that is. they are being SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE HAIR GROWS OUT OF THEIR HEAD, AND THE STYLES THAT ARE NATURAL FOR THEIR HAIR! and that is just one aspect of this violent societal machine that insists only white-like hair is beautiful, why do you think so many black women wear weaves and wigs, sometimes to the point of destroying their natural hair in the process? because no one wants your natural hair. no one wants you to go to school with it, no one wants you to go to a job interview with it, no one wants it. it's seen as dirty, as subpar, as ghetto, and you're not going to get anywhere unless you hide it from your teachers or your employers because people are fucking racist. no one wants to admit that, because it makes them feel bad, but that's the literal definition of racism and it needs to stop.
you'd have to be incredibly dense to think society doesn't frown on non-whiteness. that's not even going into the "becky" part of "becky with the good hair", like nonwhite societies the world over don't sell skin lightening creams and frown on dark skin. colonialism has tainted the ENTIRETY of this planet and the effects are not only really sad but incredibly plain to see. yes, all hair is beautiful. tell the world that. thanks.
Are you doing the ø's like this Todd because of Twenty Øne Piløts?
My favorite “both sides” breakup song is Nothing Better by Postal Service. The female comes in with “CHARTS AND GRAPHS” to lecture the guy on why she broke up with him.
Oh dear god, if they take this one down again
I'm afraid that it'll disappear again if I pause.
"It was just like a platinum album where I trashed you for 48 straight minutes!"
XD Oh, Todd youre so silly
Adventure of a Lifetime's guitar is scarily addicting to me. I love it and I can't explain why.
So glad to see your best of the year list! The worst of the year always feels like a punch to the face, and then this list comes along to comfort you. Thank you so much!
For a long time I misheard "cake by the ocean" as "kate by the ocean" and thought this guy was just so smitten with some girl named kate at the beach lol
13:37 Well, we finally know how Puff Daddy forced himself into so many pop songs.
wait... wait wait wait wait wiat... what do you mean adelle is 3 years younger than carlie rae jepsen... what... what the fuck?! 3 YEARS?! what is this world anymore?!
Carly had an album around 4 years before being known for "Call Me Maybe", the same year Adele released "19" while being... well, 19.
When 25 was released, my favorite station played a handful of songs from it just because they can. This was the one I liked the most, and I was kinda disappointed that it didn't get all that big. I was still happy when I did happen to hear it on commercial radio though.
13:29 well, that lyric certainly hits different in 2024...
I completely agree with you, that adele's when we were young was the highlight of her album.
HELL YESS I'M EARLY ON A TITS VIDEO!
sweet shrimps did I just say TITS? I'm glad my mom is still shopping so she won't notice the stuff I'm typing into some guy's UA-cam video comment box.
13:40 “i know nobody’s throwing him in these songs cuz they want to” watching this in late 2023 and it feels less like a joke and more like a very very real possibility
"Set Fire to your New Lover" that be great
Todd referring to Jay Z as some kind of dreamboat is hilarious
What a year this was. This is a year where the best list had a song from drake's views and a song from a band led by one of the jonas brothers.
Cake By The Ocean grew on me so much after I heard it used on one of those Uncharted 4 memes where it cycled through the characters' dance animations.
I already saw it on Vimeo. Still glad to have it around on UA-cam all the same! :D
2:49
i used to rule the world
Chunks would load when I gave the word
Now every night I go stow away
Hide from the mobs I used to slay
I need help getting to Part 2. I tried turning my device over and nothing happened...
I always have to be patient so we can get past UA-cams auto block - and Todd is worth it.
Remember back when we thought 2016 was a bad year?
It was a pretty bad year for music
Was a weird year.
I'm sick in bed right now with a cut inside my throat, so stop making me laugh so much Todd!
CatProductionStudios a cut! Oh no help you feel better
I still hate beyonce I'm the last holdout
Don't worry, I'm with you.
Aura Master good I'm not alone
So happy to see this come up in my subscription feed! I look forward to your top tens all year, keep being awesome, Todd!
Going to watch it before it gets taken down although I want it to stay up but just in case.
Spoilers:
I honestly liked this list.
