    My daughter received her CAM yesterday for idiopathic toe-walking and the technician from ortho gave her a boot that seems too small, her toes hanging over the edge about a cm maybe 1 1/2 cm. I asked her about it and she said it shouldn't matter much and gave me little velcro tabs and called them extensions...? Said I should just be able to loosen the heel strap and slide the heel back. That's not really working since the calf straps keep her foot in place. Was this a misfit and should I go back to Ortho and ask for the next size up?

      Looking for the same answer, not sure if the boot I was given is over sized or not. No one seems to be clear about this the medical system is so frustrating to deal with. My heel floats slightly above the base when lying down

    • @Sodainspace
      @Sodainspace 4 роки тому

      Celeste G no medical person had an answer but I figured it out myself and my foot is now healing well. The key is that you foot doesn’t completely float above the sole but if it slightly rises up maybe 10% it is fine. Most important is the ankle not moving much and the foot is secured from the sides

Ps I haven't seen a doctor for it but my mom is a nurse so she has medical experience and has had PF herself. I have also talked to athletic trainers at my school and they have taped it before football and basketball game that I cheer at.

    Hi, I'm a medical assistant that may be working at an orthopedics clinic soon, just learning all the things they do in this type of setting. For the boot here, is there a way to test how tight it is (1-2 fingers between foot or leg, or check for pedal pulse after a minute, ect?) What else besides crutches and slings would orthopedics involve? I know you're mostly podiatry here but thought I'd ask anyway. Great vid btw!

    I broke my ankle about a month and a half ago. I've had surgery and they told me I'm ready for a cam boot. they told me to come back in when I have one to get it strapped correctly but when I called they told me I can do it on my own just to make sure my heel is to the back. I wanted to go in to make sure I had the right boot as well. The one I have is shorter. I'd say it stops about mid calf. Would I need one that goes up to just below the knee or no? I broke both sides of my ankle and I got surgery to correct it with plates and screws. I'm at about 3 weeks post surgery and they took out my staples. Thanks in advance!

    Hello! I have a rupture of ligaments. Today I just released the walker. It is inflatable (it has two airbags on both sides). The problem I have is that when I put it I feel it a bit loose. Then I inflate both sides until I feel it subject, but then I feel it tightens the edema and hurts a little bit.
    What I do is to inflate enought the good side (without edema) and inflate less the bad side (where the edema is).
    On the other hand my heels can not touch the sole of the boot as the break will not allow me. It's normal, right?
    regards and thanks for the video! ;)

    Is it applicable for a tibial fracture?? After cast (non operative treatmrent)

    • @SoleFootAnkle
      @SoleFootAnkle  5 років тому +1

      It is typical to use a boot like this after having a cast on a broken leg. Typically you will use a boot like this after 6-10 weeks of casting for non operative treatment of a tibial fracture. Usually the boot is a good way to start weight-bearing and give stability for somebody that is just starting to walk after a broken leg. As fractures have different severity as well as all patients heal differently it is best to consult with your doctor if you have any questions.

      My orthopedic surgeon recommended a boot for me since I avulsion fracture to my ankle. He said no need for surgery unless it doesn't heal correctly. So I'm wearing this boot. I bought mine on Amazon for $50 or else it would have been more $$had i bought it from the doctor.
      You can sleep with it just loosen the straps a bit. I find if i don't wear it at night i might hurt my ankle more in my sleep.

    Are my toes supposed to hang over the edge of the liner? Or should the liner extend further? it feels like it is putting pressure right underneath my two fracture toes. And it is more painful than wearing nothing at all. I've talked to the podiatrist who got me the boot. But she said its fine. It doesn't feel right to me.

    • @SoleFootAnkle
      @SoleFootAnkle  7 років тому

      Hi Christopher - if you are experiencing pain you should call your Podiatrist and discuss further. The CAM/Walking boot is supposed to immobilize your foot and ankle, but you should not be in any extreme pain. We hope you have a speedy recovery.

    Hi. Thanks for making this video. Very helpful. I'm a couple weeks post ORIF, still NWB, but in a boot. My foot does not want to get to 90 degrees so my heel hovers a cm or two above the base. Is there a good technique to push it snug safely or should I not be forcing it?

    • @killacobras3470
      @killacobras3470 10 років тому

      You should be forcing it because your foots regular postition is in 90 degrees so yea push it in their and after a few times of putting on the boot your foot should get used to being at a 90 degree angle and if it hurts alot get a friend or family member to push your foot up to 90 degree angle and also push your foot down this should help to keep your foot at its regular postition :)

    • @SoleFootAnkle
      @SoleFootAnkle  10 років тому +1

      George - while we don't recommend shoving or pushing your foot in the Walking Boot (CAM Walker) your foot should remain at a 90 degree angle to that your foot is flat and against the heel on the boot. It should fit snug and you should not be able to move it around.

    • @gblur72
      @gblur72 10 років тому +1

      Thanks for replying. I've been able to get it to 90 degrees/flat-mostly by manually dorsiflexing by pulling gently on the balls of my feet-but I've felt a bit of a strain in my arch and heel. I suspect the tendons etc are stretching as the level of discomfort has been lessening.

    • @SoleFootAnkle
      @SoleFootAnkle  10 років тому

      George - we are happy to hear this. Just as a helpful reminder, please check in with your doctor and report any level of discomfort you may have so that he/she is aware of your issues. Thanks again for commenting on this video.

      Yes, thanks for the suggestion. She is aware and actually mentioned not to be overly concerned regarding 90 degrees as she is confident my ROM will return once I move to PWB and PT. Again, thanks for the useful primer video. There is a surprising dearth of informative instruction.

      Hi Saray - I would try it out with your office pants. We realize that these boots are not "fashionable" or "trendy" but are needed for a full recovery in an injury. Wishing you the best in your recovery.

    I have a 5th metatarsal bone-displaced fracture. It’s been 4.5 weeks. I’ve had my boot for a week. I went to a follow up appointment with the podiatrist and I told them I was experiencing numbness on half of my inner big toe and the upper middle section. The podiatrist has never touched my foot in the two appointments. She said it maybe due to the boot but I don’t wear the boot unless I am walking. Could it be related to the injuries I sustained in my fall or improper use of the boot or neuropathy? I am not sure what questions to make this doctor really look at my injuries. We are only using x-rays.

    So I have a question. I went to the ER today and they told me they think I have planters fasciitis. The doctor told me the worst thing I could do is wear a boot. Is this correct? My mom has had this many times and has always had to wear a boot. Help please lol

      I received a cam boot for a 5th metatarsal fracture Or Jones fracture. The boot is extremely uncomfortable and have never had this with other boots with different fractures. This one is a short boot with a red pump. Maybe it is a less expensive boot? Which boot is this in the video and can I get it in a short style?

    You said in this video to ask any questions but you're not willing to answer any. You should add a statement in the title that you aren't actually willing to answer any questions.

    • @SoleFootAnkle
      @SoleFootAnkle  8 років тому

      +sevendays we try to answer the basic questions, however, if there is an issue of discomfort or any pain associated with the boot, we highly recommend that you go back to your physician and make sure you are wearing a properly sized boot.

    • @sevendays02
      @sevendays02 8 років тому

      +Sole Foot and Ankle Specialists Your caption says "...how to put it on or know the proper way it should fit your foot and ankle". Yet even when someone asked about how much to inflate it, you told them to call their doctor, when inflating it is part of fitting it properly. Why would you post this video purporting to show the right way to wear a boot if you won't answer questions regarding the right way to wear a boot? Whatever legal action you're worried about exposing yourself to, you've already done it by filming this unsolicited advice about how to put on a CAM boot. I do not appreciate someone trying to get themselves free advertising under the guise of "wanting to help".

    These videos never have actual post injury patients so they don't account for the pain and discomfort a real patient requiring a boot like this experiences during the application of the device.

    • @SoleFootAnkle
      @SoleFootAnkle  5 років тому

      Hi Shonda - thank you for your response. These videos are meant to be informational only and to help in putting on the boot in the correct fashion. If any person experiences any discomfort or pain we recommend that they do contact their doctor in order to make sure the boot is on correctly. We also advise patients to contact their physician if there is extreme discomfort with wearing this boot.
