hi Sophia ! As a highschool looking into WSU, I’ve been watching a lot of UA-camrs who make videos about the college, and I will say that you’re my favorite out of all of them. I really appreciate how you get straight to the point and you share a lot of important things that’s are really helpful ! I really appreciate your videos, thank you ! :)
Murrow is one of the best real world style hands on programs in the country. I’m a graduate and spent 25 years in local TV news business. Weather is not pleasant from mid Oct to late April. Want nice weather, consider taking classes in summer sessions and staying in Pullman all year. Pace of life on campus is far slower, but also more relaxed. It does get hot as Hell, but compared to the western side of the state the weather is more predictable at least and way better in the summer. Plus if you are out of state tuition, you won’t see a price difference in the summer semester/seasion. Everyone pays the same. Anyone who complains about boredom and “nothing to do” isn’t looking hard enough. Yes, summer is different but if you keep eyes and ears open you’ll be fine. Def helps to have a car. Good video, appreciate the work.
Hello Sophia. So based on the age of your post, I presume you're now a senior undergraduate. I wish you all the best in either getting your dream job or pursuing your Masters. I know a lot of the Spokane and Tri-Cities journalists and news readers came from that college you spoke of (McMurray?) Another college they have on-campus there is a large animal, vet school, it's world class. Myself, I graduated from Oregon State and then transplanted here in Lewiston inheriting my grandparents ranch. Been here over twenty years now. Also, the sports community there is awesome. I have season football tickets this year. Our coach is just the very best! Go Cougs!
Thank you for the well wishes, William. I had no idea WSU had so many coveted colleges. The broadcast journalism and vet schools do seem to be very well regarded. It was such a pleasant surprise! I love hearing about farmland and ranches staying within families for generations and am happy you got to continue your grandparents’ legacy. Go cougs! 🐾
Hi I’m not even sure you’ll see this but I just got accepted to the school and I’m really debating going ngl after hearing some of the sketchy stuff that just happened. I’ve looked into more and have noticed crime has kinda been up in Pullman as well. I’d like to hear your thoughts if possible. Also if you have any more tips for adjusting to the cold or a very changing climate I would really appreciate it 🙏. Similar to you I’m somewhere where I don’t really get a lot of rain or snow lol.
@@ChannieKat Hi, congrats on your acceptance! If I could do it all over again, I would. I mentioned in this video series that Pullman has weird crime, and this is aside from the Idaho Four two years ago. I consider myself to be a reactive/very alert person and felt pretty safe speed walking home at night. On campus itself, I felt completely fine and even left my items unattended in the library for years with no issues. Pullman PD is very responsive. I’m from Los Angeles, so Pullman crime was nothing compared to how things are at home. As for the cold…my biggest tip would be to buy proper snow boots (go for functionality over aesthetics), gloves, and invest in 2-3 winter coats! You get used to the cold very quickly. I moved in my dorm in January and started wearing tank tops again in March when the temperature was in the 50s. I don’t keep tabs on Pullman’s “sketchy stuff” since I graduated and moved away, but I genuinely felt safe there even after everything that happened. Again, I’d do WSU all over again if I could!
@ oh wow thanks for your thorough response, it really helps! I hope grad life is going well for you and congrats! I’ll be scheduling a campus visit eventually and I’ll be able to scout things out as well lol. 🫠
hello, i wonder if it's almost obligatory to have a car for knowing the surrounding areas, i mean is there public transportation for moving around?, the thing is that i'm an international student and i cannot have or drive a car there. Thnak you for your videos!
I was an out-of-state student at WSU and the 5th family member to attend WSU (I was the misfit in the family not being from Washington. Everything you said is true including the friendly student body and it getting dark early and messing with beahvior. I worked in the libraries (their archives dept.) after graduating from WSU and rarely saw the sun in the winter time. It surely messed with my mood. However, I do not entirely agree about the car. It is a small town and you can make your way around Pullman. You will get the best Cougar cavs of your life.
Yes on the Cougar Calves - LOL! I have to say, a car would have been fantastic to travel to Idaho and experience more of the neighboring nature scene. I definitely wish I could have done that!
Great video. We are moving to Pullman for grad school, but attending the University of Idaho. I found more reasonable appartments in Pullman. Will the drive to Moscow for 0800 classes be difficult?
Congratulations on grad school! I have a couple friends who make that commute. The consensus is that it‘s not ideal but definitely doable. It’s about 15-20 mins to get from Pullman to the UI.
Hi, I’m currently looking into Washington state university as a transfer option as a student in Southern California, I’m from Orange County. I’m Nervous though on what school to pick, I’ve looked at University of Washington and now I’m looking at Washington State University. I mainly want an environment with great professors and a community that feels friendly, engaged, and welcoming. I feel like some people here in SoCal can come off as a fake kind of nice. What is the class sizes like? Is it easy to meet new people? How is the campus, food, and professors? Thanks in advance!!
@@nadermost4864 Hi! I absolutely loved all my professors in the Communications Department and Honors College. I talked to several about my professional goals in passing and they’ve passed so many opportunities my way as well as remembered me after I was their student. Assuming you’d transfer over as a junior, class sizes for my criminal justice classes were 30-40 students and about 10-20 for my communications classes. Very individualized learning in my experience as an upperclassman.
@@nadermost4864 WSU students are so friendly and, in my experience, very open to making new friends. I met most of mine through my campus job (highly recommend) and through my roommate, who met hers through her job and classes. As an upperclassmen, you’re taking most classes with the same group of kids so always have a familiar face. Dining hall food is pretty good tbh. I think the food in town may be lackluster coming from SoCal, but Moscow is only 15 minutes away and has a lot more options. I LOVED my time at Wazzu and wish I could go back! You can skim through a few of my other vlogs to get a feel for campus. :)
@@sophiajuliet.Thank you for the replies, I’m currently going to OCC and I’m just worried about finding my community. At community college I feel like people aren’t that social or welcoming, or the types of people aren’t my type of people. Jm deciding between university of Washington, Washington state, University of Colorado boulder and Oregon state, would u know the differences in students, professors, environment, between Washington state and university of Washington? Like how do they differ?
@@sophiajuliet.Hi sorry one more quick question if u don’t mind, so I was watching another wsu video and there was this comment on it “Instructors at WSU teach that there is something inherently bad and wrong with students based on their physical appearance categories. I contacted the Dean of Students Office about this and the Dean slammed the phone on me. I guess they don't want to talk about it. Instructors at WSU teach that some students are spiritually damaged according to how they look physically... how is that career relevant? Once you have already started a program and have paid this school you better hope you don't have any concerns because the staff will treat you like garbage.” Now idk does that reflect anything actually at the school or what
@@nadermost4864 Hi! I saw that comment as well and have no idea what that's about. No one I know has ever mentioned that being their experience nor that of anyone they know either. I can't help comparing WSU to other universities. I recommend connecting with students of those schools to ask them the same questions you're asking me! I think you'd find your community at WSU and hope you have a fantastic experience wherever you end up!
@@sophiajuliet. the Summers are hell. one of the reasons I did not choose ASU or Arizona when I was applying for college. I attended WSU and never regretted it.
I have a real question and you can delete or ignore. What are your feelings about finding out bryan kohberger, an alleged murderer went and taught at that school?
It’s been a real shock to be honest with you, and it scares me to no end that the suspected was in such close vicinity. It was definitely a lesson to not let my guard down even in a small, sleepy town as you never know.

I am interested on applying in this University but i am having a trouble coz they are requiring to apply as a resident something in their website. Anyways I am from Philippines. And I tried sending them message in the email but they could not answer my quiry so I am hoping if you have any ideas about it , i would be very glad. Thank you!
Hi! Based on what you said it sounds like you'd apply as an international student. Try Googling "WSU International Student Services" and look for any emails there. I did a quick online search and found this. I would start here: admission.wsu.edu/apply/international-students/
