Active cruise control is based off of object distance measuring The way your vehicle detects that front radars ..not usually the camera There is front radars Active cruise control Emergency collision Rear radars as well in the bumpers each side for blind spot monitoring ect These are all part of the advanced driver assist systems Meaning there not plug and play they need to be calibrated . Malfunctions are mainly cause there not calibrated at all some of the comments saying they have but not working Or not calibrated properly the ones that work sometimes and doesn’t others The dealer ran the codes and didn’t find anything cause there not dtc codes It’s calibration within the module themselves Just google adas calibrations gmc Chevy front radar active cruise control . I believe these are dynamic calibrations which you will plug in the Adas scan tool and live calibration while driving 👍
I’m pretty sure acc on the gmc is detected thru front radar … the one of few is acc with optical is Suburu with the duel cameras you see on the windshield other than that majority models are thru the radar you will find behind your front bumper / grill
Some manafactuers use radar but in our GMC it is based off the camera. 1:50 cruise control explanation 3:40 Adaptive cruise control explanation 6:20 Issues with Cruise and adaptive cruise control NOTE!!! Our good friend and insider of all things GMC gave us some insights! The Gap adjustment is a time calculation, not distance. The distance between vehicles varies with speed. The adaptive will not reengage on its own, it has to be manually reengaged. He believes the regular cruise control sensor in the grill but will follow up with more details.
My adaptive cruise control wont work because I put tint on my front window, same for my lane assist. But I never use these features anyway. Thx for the video!
@@mtnbike4522 did you ever figure this out? i have a 21 yukon xl at4 and it has collision detection but i have a feeling the at4 can't do adaptive cruise. i was really hoping i had it but i can't get it to turn on like in this video
I have a 2022 1500 ZZ1 Silverado. Has anyone missing adaptive cruse control on your truck? My dealer told me there was a chip shortage and GM not yet have a solution. Any of you all have the same problem???????????????
If you shut off your headlights on any Gm vehicle with adaptive cruise control on it will block you from using adaptive cruise control for the rest of a drive is soon as you start your engine again it’ll work again.
I have a 2019 gmc sierra denali ultimate w/ the 6.2 . I read some things that say Im supposed to have adaptive cruise control on it and others say it doesn't, My question is who's right? and also, if I don't have adaptive cruise, why do I have a following distance adjustment button like you do on mine as well? what would be the purpose other than to have the adaptive cruise? My regular cruise control works fine. The truck just won't slow down if a slower driver pulls into my lane and im not paying attention. It will run me right into the back of them no matter what my following distance is set at.
I’m dealing with the same thing, think the dealers are frustrated cause they can’t get parts for recalls, I believe it has something to do with the headlight recalls that’s making to where the adaptive isn’t working
The following distance indicator is for your emergency braking also. You will have that distance adjustment in a vehicle that doesn’t even have adaptive cruise. To find out if you have e it just hold down the cruise cancel button for like 5 seconds. That’s how you switch back and forth between regular and adaptive cruise. HTH
Me too. I have a new 2023. I have the adaptive button and gap control icons but it will not go into adaptive mode when press & hold the cancel. Trying to get the dealer involved. Anyone else having this issue?
I have a 2023 Chev suburban. Because it has the luxury and safety package, I suspect I may be able to add adaptive CC to my Suburban in a software change. I contacted my dealer but with no answer so far. Any Ideas on who in the GM World could get me an answer? thx in advance
I lm in the same boat as you. GM is very deceptive when selling the high country. Did you know there are three different high country’s? Me either. We were sold the lowest model of the high country without being told so. Great huh? Fun
Getting tired of GM. Japanese brands have had adaptive cruise standard for 5 years on all vehicles, and without so many issues. GM you have to option it with expensive packages and it doesnt even work.
Thanks for a clear understanding of the newer cruise controls!

Great video it's exactly what i needed to know thank you sir
Great video!
Thank you so much for explaining….Not a fan of this adaptive cruise control. I can understand why people do use it.
My friend has a 2023. Doesn’t work. I’m going to try these tips. Thanks.
let us know how it goes! We can only relate our experiences, love to hear if something changes or is new.

I just figured out our 2011 Silverado's cruise control only works over 60 mph. Is that normal?
No, it should engage at 18 or 20mph
