Really good idea to put this video out there! I like how things were explained, without too much technical jargon. I liked seeing the whole process and the order of things so I have a better idea what to expect when I get fitted. The lofts on new irons are just hilarious! It’s almost at the point where the number really needs to be dialed up one as the 7 iron is really what a 6 or even a 5 use to be. 👍🏻
The lofts make me laugh, I grab an old set of clubs out and I’ll hit a 5 iron 170 yards and then grab a newer version and hit an easy 7 iron over the same distance! 😂
@@berniebarnesgolf 😂 Yes it’s wild! I know tech and moving things around in the club head and being able to measure it now is part of it, but the lofts are just outrageous! I’d like the old lofts to be called the “real” lofts instead of “retro” 😃

Really liked this. Gareth, more like the average golfer we can relate to.
When I had my Callaway fitting last year, like Gareth, extra half inch on length of club, with mid size grips. It’s amazing the detail, real fitters go into, compared to 7 or so years ago when I had my last iron fitting.

Good content Bernie. Gareth is a nice bloke and you could have a bit of fun with him on the course. The fitting was interesting. I wonder why graphite shafts were not tested to see if those would have helped with launch angles.
His swing speed was a little quick for the graphite shafts in the fitting bag Graeme.
Impressive work from Harry! I've played Ping irons for years, but my reluctance with the G430s is the lofts have been increased to the point that, basically, another gap wedge had to be added between pitching and sand wedges. I realize it's mostly a mental thing, but golf is a very mental game! Looking forward to seeing Gareth playing his new Pings!
He’s already got them and using them! I was shocked at the lofts if I’m honest!
Great video. As someone who is getting fitted in a few weeks it was really handy to see the process and someone doing such a thorough job

Great vlog. Lofts and distance. The 7 iron is really a old 5 iron. I took my old ping g10 6 iron out for a bit of fun. So easy to get in the air. But you don't hit as far. Have we really moved on?

Great video. Not going to lie I thought I was a better player than a set of G430's but I wasn't 😂 love them now I ended up with DG 120s300 shafts 1/2 " longer retro loft blue dot and golf pride 360 gold grips. Never played better. Why not get some help. It's like buying a car with power steering and abs imo. Enjoy Gareth 🏌♂️

Really interesting video and well done to Gareth and Harry for agreeing to be filmed! I think my only question for Gareth/Harry would have been why go to a 5 iron given the lofts, would a hybrid have been an option there? Keep up the great work all of you!!
I believe a hybrid would have been better as you suggest and I would have recommended 6 iron maximum and maybe even a 7 John!
Would like to have seen Harry suggest putting the new longer, lighter shaft in Gareth's G400s. New clubs aren't cheap these days and that would have saved him a small fortune if they matched the G430s.
I have Ping fan boy playing partners, one plays G400, the other G430 and bar an extra 1 degree loft in the retros the difference is negligible to my eye between a few generations of releases. That's despite the marketing claims all brands make about their new clubs.
Gareth (like many) wanted new clubs as he had promised himself a new set when he retired Gordon.
Harry is a proper Legend, a credit to Churston, what a knowledgeable guy he is.
Good luck to Gareth with his new clubs, perhaps he'll feature in a Break wind (sorry Par) series?

Love Gareths attitude to this fitting, if it works he trusts the fitters knowledge even if he cant feel a big difference while hitting balls

Glad he saw some real improvements when Harry made the changes, I have had fittings where no matter what we tried it all stayed very much the same. Mrs Gareth won't be getting her summer holiday this year ££££££🤣🤣🤣

Really comprehensive fitting. Amazing what a difference shaft length & lie angle makes. Makes me think I should get some new Mizunos when they come out next!

Really enjoyed that video Bernie as it gives a great insight into getting fitted for clubs which I think most people are apprehensive about,it also explains what you can get out of the fitting.
I know when I first started I just an old set of clubs and just went out and hit balls.
As i got better and started to understand things more I did get fitted and while I wasn’t that confident with one of the fitters I’ve been fitted for a full set plus driver,4 wood and hybrid and understood more of the process,and I have recommended others to get fitted

Really interesting that. Gareth is a bit like myself, his range of movement is obviously restricted but he still likes to give it a rip. I've always tried to swing within myself but I might learn something from his swing and try to give it a bit more oomph. Thanks Gareth 👍

Yeah course! You can check lie angles, lofts and length etc, make sure the clubs are right for you!

Good video & I hope Harry enjoys his clubs - I only wish this had come out before Titleist fitted me into the T150s with the use of a strike board …makes me wonder if I have been ‘misfit’ !
I’d get them checked Martyn. I’m not a massive fan of the use of the board! So artificial and it sits an inch above the mat!

Absolutely Malcolm! Sometimes the little things can make the big differences! Gareth wasn’t charged as he’s buying a full set. No idea the cost, wasn’t interested in that.

G430 HL wasn’t an option ? Graphite ?
He swings it too quick for the graphite, Ping were recommending stiff steel! He doesn’t like the look of the HL version. If I had left everything in the video it would have been an hour long Paul 😂
