Those things on top of Steve's and Bob's speaker cabinets are custom amp cases.
RIP, Steve.
Was at this show and was lucky enough to meet Steve after. RIP legend
Jesus that guitar tone is unreal. Like a fuckin' buzzsaw
In my humble opinion it's the greatest guitar tone of all time
That guitar sounds unreal.
the whole sound is unreal. Totally optimised for what they do. Weston seems to be playing on wires made to hold the fxxx golden gate :)
Blame PIL´s Keith Levene ...it´s so clear that Steve was never the same after listening to things such as "1st Edition " ; "Metal box " and "Flowers of romance " ...I know cause I also never quite recovered from the guitar on those records ...
Always come back to this video, had never seen a guitarist torture their instrument like that before. Fucking incendiary stuff. RIP Steve.
God, Steve...I'm in shock. You are already SO missed 😢
Who would ever even like this in 2025!!!???
🤘😲🤘
So tribal and timeless. Real shit!
Why??? Why did Steve have to leave us so soon!!!! I will never forget Shellac! Rest in Power Steve
They're great.👍 I loved Big Black as a teenager. So when Shellac first came around I was an instant fan. I loved Rapeman too. I hope to record with them someday.
You and me both brother!
Masterful recovery from strap failure by Mr Albini
RIP Albini- I love it when he wields the guitar as a theremin, then puts it back around his waist! I saw Shellac back in 2010 or so one of the best and most fun shows I've seen. The Q/A joke portion was a real bonus
Todd Trainer is my spirit animal
That just blew my head off and I’m 66.
Fuck yea Ken Jones
✊
Blew my head off and I'm 41. DAMN that's Great
I was hoping to see a Shellac show at some point. I guess it will never happen. I still have my early memories of all those cassette recordings of all Steve's other accomplishments. RIP Steve Albini. You were the sample age of my paternal grandfather when he died of the same disease at the same age, but luckily you went out look a lot younger than he did.
A name I grew to see among lots of albums/bands that were great. RIP
Saw you boys 6 times, all in SF. THANKS for always bringing IT. Bob Weston & Todd Trainor...so very sorry for your loss.
RIP Steve, and love to all your loved ones
Far be it from me to exaggerate but this is very probably he greatest known performance of what must surely be the best song ever written
Damn, I was at this show. Thanks for posting! Sad week.
Seen them in 1998 best show ever
I am in this video in the green shirt, looking like a dork. I cannot believe there will be no more Shellac shows, unless Sammy Hagar joins the band.
The proper way to use a guitar strap.
That was such an ordeal
It triggered my anxiety. Heavily.
im like noo why are you making it harder to grab the end and then i saw guitarbaby🫃
that's kind of steve's signature way of wearing a guitar strap. apparently, when he was younger in big black, he was so skinny that tying the guitar strap around his waist was the only way to keep it up
4:22 twas Steve that messed up. He should have gone into the next riff here but added another bar. Bob keeps going and is one bar ahead.
The one and only - Steve Albini
Love the "one more set" chant... Not every band ever gets that.
i remember this show. great set, as usual.
AAAHHHH!!!! I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!
God that fucking bass tone !!!!
If Kafka was born a century later and chose an electrified guitar instead of writing strange things
Check out Kafka's intrusive thoughts, they are next level.
Great sound and as usual the boys are really throwing down! Thx for sharing
incroyable band,a big thought from heart for Steve
RIP Steve. 😞
Damn 😥
@@michaelzvid I've sent this video to so many people over the years. It's one of my favorite things on youtube. Thank you for immortalizing this moment, and making sure that Steve's visceral spirit carries on. 🙏
amazing shellac!!
awesome
This is what getting killed at Action Park sounds like
Hal, i can not stress this enough. This is the first thing thats made me laugh all day and its fucking nine at night
Bruh
CROOOOOOOW!!!
fucking awesome! i love how they fuck up the change too :)
Love the pink mohawk
j'adore ce son........
no, weston goes into the next part when there is still another fill. i probably listen to this song more than they do at this point
CRROOOOOOOWW!!!
Catharsis!!!!
Trainer’s drum set up is the most uncomfortable looking thing I’ve ever seen lol
Probably the coest band of all time. Chicago stylee
Great vid - nice job.
Shellac, always +1...
Yes.
Drummer. Drummrr. Drummer. He's a broken robot.
That man is not human Love his style so much!
Wow this is really cool!
kimddown.. You should seem em live
belt buckle guitar!
So losing the guitar strap isn't accidental... it's more of a transition move from Over-the-shoulder to Free-form-feedback to Once-around-the-waist at the beginning of this song.
+Benjamin Bertrand Harmonic Percolator whistling feedback magic
good fucking job! i saw them about month earlier in portland.
I'm curious of that cymbal very high in the middle. And the amps they are using.. any one knows?
when I saw them IIRC albini and weston use it for mini-"theatrical" tidbits during jammy / extended songs (that they play differently than how it sounds on record)
I saw them at Camden I london a month ago... the cymbal was mostly ignored but the drummer would occasionally play it from 'underneath' over his head.... The amp I believe is based on a Marshall which has been rebuilt to Steve's own design... looks killer.. there is an article somewhere on the net, if you type in 'Steve albini amp..' he was using Marshall's in london...
FUCK YEA! PUNK ROCK!
in fact i came here to confirm the way todd plays it after listening. weston dun goofd
big albini
Bass goes out of time at 4:28, notice the WTF look from the guitarist lol. Awesome vid, great quality.
Its cool reaction BTW i must say :D
Steve got a little Hendrixy in the beginning
some guitar geek in here?! someone know wich amps steve and bob use?
Thx
Bob uses a Traynor TS 50B head and they led that into some home made cab. That amp sound is used in many records engineered by Steve(jesus lizard/breeders/etc)
The tronographic rusty box pedal is a copy of that amp if you are looking for the same sound. I have one and it's great.
Not sure about Steve's gear though. Keep in mind that they have their instruments made of aluminum, so that probably has a huge effect on the sound characteristics as well.
+Bálint Punok thanks allot much apreciate:)))
Travis Bean guitar and bass
What are the amp heads they're using?
Steve and Bob are both using custom amp cases, inside of which are Traynor TS-50B amp heads. See: www.offsetguitars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25350
Been searching for this thread. Thank.
So Fuckin legit!
weston doesnt miss anything. that look at 4:28 is just bandmates looking at each other right before a transition.
i reckon that bald guy has a good view
What hell is Steve playing through?
As I wrote in an earlier reply: Steve and Bob are both using custom amp cases, inside of which are Traynor TS-50B amp heads. See: www.offsetguitars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25350
@@michaelzvid Traynors .... nice. Thanks for the info.
@@michaelzvid Whoever said Steve was using a Traynor is wrong - his distinct guitar sound has always been courtesy of an Intersound IVP microphone preamp, which in Shellac is in a box that has it blended in parallel with an old Fender Bassman amp. Bob Weston does use the Traynor, though.

i was wrong. oops.
i want my fucking t shirt
Black Flag vibes
poor travis bean
(puts guitar outta tune within first 20 seconds of 7 minute long song)
Sausagefest
What's the point of the drummer -- bring back Roland.
Ripped off Kurt’s style dude.. Ohh yeah that’s right. Albini produced the recording. That’s right! The Melvins were doing the whole feedback thing back in their earliest days though so.. Pass!
That's bs
This music sucks
