Nice project! I previously built M2Q, a midi2chamsys converter for syncing DJ Ableton music with professional light console Chamsys. It was a nice project.
would this be able to turn a DMX Fader Controller into a midi Fader Controller? ive been looking for a propper Midi Expression Controller for Film Scoring but there are non made for that purpose, that are at an acceptable price point and have propper build quality. This is a topic that many composers are frustrated with. there are some cheap yet very well build DMX controllers like the DDC-12 LCD DMX that would be perfect but they only output DMX Signals. Would be awsome if this would be an easy fix for that. maybe you can explain if and how that would be possible. i and many others would be verry greatful for that.
I think with your work it must be possible to use a multi slider dmx console like a .48 chanel cheap one to control various parameters in a daw like ableton live, thank you for your work, i will try to do so
Its not always a good idea to drive a logic chip more than its supply voltage the 74AHCT125 would eventually destroy itself it would be safer to use a level translator chip these are designed to translate between 2 different logic level voltages Also the parts list the max485 device has the same url as the teensy board But other than that an enjoyable video I am a practicing electronics engineer in the uk but i dint know how to program for midi and now thanks to your videos i do now dms512 is making sense
Thanks TDR! Link is fixed. I believe that the 74AHCT125 is 5V tolerant when powered with 3.3v. This is from the Adafruit site: "You can also use it to connect 5V logic out to 3V logic in, that's when you want to power the 74AHCT125 with 3V, it can safely read 5V logic on the input pins."
Nice! This should be for sale on the market! Great device to control my Midas MR18 with my lighting desk! 😅
Thanks to your old videos of teaching midi i been doing this for a long time now
Glad to hear that!
Nice work Pal
Thanks Mark 👍
Have you tried using a resistor voltage divider instead of the 74HCT125? It really should work.
Another good approach!
Nice project!

Great Project. I would love to see a MIDI to DMX project as well, if that is possible.
Any recommendations for a MIDI to DMX set-up?

That would be cool!
can I use Teensy 2.0?

Hi! Can you write a circuit for DMX 2 Ethernet ? I paid you.
Or you can just use 2 resistors to go from 5v to 3.3v! (1.8K + 3.3K )
