I bought a 7500 duel fuel Duramax that I run on propane. Out in the open, it is only making about 65 decibels and in the shed I built for $75.00 it quiets down to around 50 decibels.

I bought 100' of 12g blue ext cord and face it away from the cabin. $20 worth of weed at the time I got the cord, now costs $130 but it still ain't $1000 for that contraption.
You aren't running very much of anything with 100 ft. of 12 ga. wire. Certainly nothing this big (9000 watts). You need at least 6 ga. for anything over 25 ft. if you don't want a fire. Sounds like it was some good smoke though.

I run a Honda 2200 to charge my batteries, use a fan in the summer and run the fridge while charging. My little cord is palenty. For manly jobs I use a 4350 that I have hard wired into the washer, microwave, compressor ect... but certainly don't run em all at the same time. Some fn idiot could light a fire doing that stupid $#!+. My mountain was on fire yesterday. Some asshole from the city was here 2 weeks ago and left a fire smoldering. He's gonna find out how much 3 helicopters, 3 engines, one tanker and 40 guys costs. I added it up to about $90,000 which he'll be paying for the test of his miserable ass life and he sure TF doesn't want to run into me, ever.

They work just fine and quietly if you invest in some proper ventilation. That includes a fully closed box if you have good air intake and extend the exhaust out and add a baffle.
