Awesome! My two favorite board game youtubers together-these two are the ones that got me into board games last year and, even though I've cooled off of the board game scene, I still love to watch these two guys review and talk about board game designs.
I found this really entertaining. I like that there was some planning beforehand so it wasn't simply who could get the most digs in. You both sought to see the other's point of view. If dialogues could be more like this in the world, it would give me so much hope.
Nice crossover from two very warm and witty shows. Thanks to SU&SD and TDT for the hours of entertainment you've given me. I only buy one or two games a year, but watching you guys evokes the nostalgic pleasure of leisurely afternoons browsing the shelves of hobby shops; slipping out box after box to read the blurb through the cellophane and feel the exiting heft and rattle of the components housed within (I also have a fetish for stationery shops, but that's another story.)
This was absolutely incredible to watch. Two people with such great respect for each other talking about the things they love (and hate). Keep up the great work both of you.

This is fantastic. I watch both and lean towards SU&SD's views usually, but I think here Tom made great/better points in general. It was very fun all around. Thank you for the crossover!
What a lovely mellow discussion about board games👍🏼 No one was “wrong” really, it was a tour of differing perspectives. Super enjoyable guys. Love both shows😁
Great show, wish I could have caught this live. Class acts on both sides, great discussions. Another example of my Dice Tower Con and SHUX are two of my must attend lists when my daughter is a bit older.
Really great show. Joy to watch two such knowledgable guys who know their stuff and treat each other with respect. Hope to see you two more often together in the future.
When Tom talked about how ruthless and fun it gets between him and his wife in Ticket To Ride, I had flashbacks to a GOT The Iron Throne game, where my wife completely gutted me in-front of 4 other players, where I was almost certain she had my back, and I was like "Yep I can relate". She ended up winning that game, but still today I have to agree it is one of my most enjoyable and memorable moments. Board games are fun but having strong/knowledgeable players makes even the basic of games even better.
I bought the game after SUSD's heartfelt recommendation, played it on Halloween (!), with that atmospheric soundtrack in the background and it was a BLAST! Everyone loved it and we were 7 players. I really liked the fact that this game is for everyone. Thank you Quinns!
I just discovered thanks to Quinns why I was having such a hard time loving games like Clank and Wingspan myself. Your explanation just blew my mind, to be honest. It was really nice to see you two sharing a video and having such a great time. I loved every minute of it.
I think the most fitting metaphor is Einstein and Bohr, especially if you think Einstein once said to Bohr "God doesn't play dice", which fits perfectly with a boardgame discussion 😂😂😂
this was really wonderful. both perspectives on each of the games was great, and i identified with having those "hangups" on certain games that otherwise i think i should like.
"We'r more alike than I would prefer" ...about the politest way of deeply insulting a person in most contexts, while also acknowledging your similarity to that person.
Fun panel. Congrats to both of you for such an outstanding job. I totally agree with Tom on Wingspan, but also totally agree on Quinns on Flamme Rouge! When I start looking for a game, one of the first thing I do is look at your reviews, not always agree but sure give me interesting information to make my decision
Thank you guys for such an amazing collaboration! Just to clarify: "Mysterium" was designed by two Ukrainians: Olexandr Nevskyi and Oleh Sydorenko. And it was originally published in Ukraine as "Містеріум" that basically reads as "Mysterium" in English. :)
With Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective I think the issue is that it isn't a game, it's a shared literary activity. I don't actually try to solve the case as efficiently as possible, I just try to experience the story in the way I want. And giving everyone a turn means you end up working together to decide what is the most interesting lead to pursue. It's nice to be driven by interest in the story unfolding instead of points or a win condition. (Holmes is by design unbeatable, and if you only read the handful of leads he used to solve the case you threw your money away on the product).
Very cool discussion! So awesome to see BOTH you board game giants discuss together! Having noticed one big difference since watching and board gaming, I wished you’d included ZOMBIE 15! Shut Up & Sit Down did a fantastic video on it, but in contrast Tom appeared to fall asleep when presented with it at a con or somewhere:) Noticed it was never reviewed I think at Dice Tower. Game itself disappeared it seemed.Rhado loved it. I understand Tom’s annoyance at the incessant use of the zombie theme. But Zombie 15 is absolutely fantastic. Anyway a great discussion guys, love you both!!
Glad Tom and Quinns met for a very lovely chat. BGG and SUSD forums morphed these "who is wrong" posts into extremely serious channel comparison discussions and I don't believe that was Quinns' intention.
I enjoyed this so much and I had been waiting for this for a long time. My favourite reviewers together! I want more SUSD and Dice Tower crossovers! Matt and Zee! Quinns and Zee! Tom and Tom! All combinations!
When looking for reviews of a board game I often watch reviews each of SUSD, Dice Tower and 3 minute board game review. It was really interesting seeing them discuss the videos that they had differing opinions on.
Great to see you guys together. Glad that Quinns never took the job at The Dice Tower and started SUSD so we could have discussions like this a decade later.
I like hearing that people disagree with me on games but sometimes I just don't understand why they like some games. I try to understand why they like games and just when I think I know what they like they surprise me. Fantastic chat between you two. Loved it.
I was curious about this too, so I googled it - Quinns has a review of Vinhos on their site that, while not exclusively positive, is really glowing. Basically there's a side of the game he wishes wasn't there, but overall, he really liked it and would happily play it again, and regards it as a hugely successful work of art and even "something I could hold up in both hands (this is a big box, after all) as everything that board games can strive to be." Look up the review, it's a great take on the game by someone it isn't necessarily perfect for but who can appreciate what a fantastic work of design it is.
This review was a while ago I think. Recently he's made a passing (negative) comment about Lacerda's games in an unrelated video (the Targi review). And now this... There is something with this designer's work that seems to be nagging him, and I too hope that he will address that at some point. It does not sound like Quinn to just go on throwing gratuitous disparaging comments about the entire work of someone like that. Especially when one of Lacerda's games (Vinhos Deluxe, as you pointed out) was actually in his collection not so long ago. That makes me extremely curious (note that I don't have any strong opinions on Lacerda's games one way or the other). tl;dr: Why the recent Lacerda hate?
Really enjoyed this crossover. Can't wait for round 2 with Matt vs Zee :P Also, I have the same problem as Quinn with overthinking/calculating moves when it's most likely coming down to luck. Even if 90% of the game is determined by luck I'll spend a crazy amount of brain power trying to get the maximum win/loss ratio out of that 10% haha, even if it's mostly futile. I think that I agree, that often makes me dislike a game because I will feel tired at the end of the game.
I have a friend who thought Dominion was the pinnacle of design. After a few weeks of playing, I got the sense it was a single player game with opponents for timers, and couldn't get over that. It was a real test of our friendship how we disagreed, but after a while we just found another niche to occupy together.
I really enjoy both SUSD and DT channels and content. They are my go to resources for board game reviews. I’m so glad that both exist and look forward to watching more of each. This was a great idea to hang a board game discussion around. Different perspectives and digging into why you do or do not enjoy something allows us viewers to locate ourselves on that spectrum (no, not that spectrum) and perhaps whether they would enjoy the game too...or not.
Absolutely brilliant! More of this. I have so much respect for both of these people and watching this was golden. Thanks. It was nice that in the end, for the most part, they could agree on what the other didn't like. For me, Sherlock Holmes is more about how much you can figure out on your own and it's a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. It's also very satisfying to do well. You are never actually going head to head with Sherlock and Quinns said it perfectly in that it's just like how he is with police. He is basically perfect and makes them feel embarrassed. Such a nice but subtle theme element that loses a lot of people (including me when I first played in the eighties - when I played again after getting into the board gaming hobby I thoroughly enjoyed it). His intuition is basically inhuman. I also agree with Quinns on what he is saying about Deck Building. For me Clank is boring and Quinns describes exactly why for me. The decks don't really feel like you really made any great input. The cards available may not even be the cards you want. So I find myself just meandering along with what I got without being excited. I don't know why I tried to describe it lol. Quinns made it more clear. And I also completely agree with Quinns about Wingspan. Yet I love some deck builders.
Tigris and Euphrates is my family's favorite game to play together for similar reasons! It truly is Reiner's masterwork. Yellow and Yangzee only comes out when we play with certain less-aggressive players/ or we want minimal majorly impactful moves.
Surprised to see all the Root hate to be honest, I've never played it, I take it that it's a sort of overhyped syndrome where people that love it really bang on about it when it's actually not as good as they make out. I mean it got its own tabletop RPG book and it looks kinda cute.
its good to see two people that disagree on a topic and actually have a conversation about it. instead of shouting their opinions. unlike the rest of 2020

Great video from my two fav channels. I suspect the reason Tom doesnt mind if ppl dislike his fav games is because he has a million other ppl he can play with. The stakes are higher if you only ever play with 1-3 others and they all dislike your fav games!

Yellow and Yangzee only comes out when we play with certain less-aggressive players/ or we want minimal majorly impactful moves.
two giants go head to head, what an interesting video. Thanks for your insights to these titles
Who said Endgame was the best crossover
This is the best Friday to be a SUSD fan in...... well, actually, worm month was pretty sick
Great video. thank you both.
Fantastic... pure delight to watch.
“Just look at Root there...” I’m surprised neither had Root on their lists.
Surprised to see all the Root hate to be honest, I've never played it, I take it that it's a sort of overhyped syndrome where people that love it really bang on about it when it's actually not as good as they make out. I mean it got its own tabletop RPG book and it looks kinda cute.
Exactly my thoughts, I was sure root was coming out
Actually if you do watch SUSD review more carefully you will catch things which for me solidified my opinion about root.. and I love this game!
Even Tom's wife will watch this video.
Great video! Ty
its good to see two people that disagree on a topic and actually have a conversation about it. instead of shouting their opinions. unlike the rest of 2020
A perfect summary of the discussion almost exactly at @50:50, which is a nice coincidence.
Super awesome vid. Thank you gentlemen.
omg my two favourite youtubers together! Lovely video :)
This! This needs to be often!
i'm 2 minutes in and this is the best thing on the internet. thank you, guys. so much. i love you. also, i'm also high, but don't worry, i'll be more in a sec.
The best ticket to ride is Amsterdam, you get the whole experience (including choke points) in half the time and half the space. If you are really keen can easily play a best of 3. It's as much ticket to ride as a person needs.
Great video from my two fav channels. I suspect the reason Tom doesnt mind if ppl dislike his fav games is because he has a million other ppl he can play with. The stakes are higher if you only ever play with 1-3 others and they all dislike your fav games!
