I’ve been a fan for years. I just want to say Ty! I’ve picked up so many small tips and even products you’ve had videos on. I just started my own build on my 04 lm7 and after removing the motor I was on the fence about the mounts. I will be ordering some AFP’s asap. Also hp tuners is a hit or miss for my truck. I went the tunerpro and pcmhammer route and with a little research and a spare pcm.. and I have complete confidence in getting it going enough to drive to a tuner. Great work man can’t wait for more
For your hp tuners error...it might actually be because you have an aftermarket radio and if you also have a module to preserve the door chime, that module blasts the communication bus with noise. The solution is to pull your radio fuse when you want to read or flash your PCM. It solved my issues for flashing the PCM in my 05 tahoe. if nothing else, its not that hard to build a bench harness for flashing the PCM if you have a donor vehicle you can steal the blue plug and obd-ii port from. Then get yourself a 2A 12VDC power adapter and a toggle switch for ignition on-off control.
This was my experience with my suburban as well. I have the same sony aftermarket radio and my tuner had to pull the fuse to flash the PCM when I was getting it dyno'd.
You lower the compression in the engine by running an LS9 gasket on a 5.3 cylinder bore. Also you have less gasket material to seal in between the cylinders. A quality GM or Mahle MLS gasket with a fire ring 3.835”-3.900” is highly recommended for the 4.8/5.3 cylinder bore. JD
Air aid makes a modular intake tube that fits in place of the air filter box and throttle body. I put one on my Yukon and it did make a slight improvement on a stock 5.3 with a 3 inch exhaust, little more grunt and get up at 2,000 rpm. Don’t know if you’d like that idea but it’s a much better way to get smoother airflow to the engine plus it does clean the engine bay up some
When filling these with coolant and bleeding the air out. You wanna completely fill the overflow Reservoir and then once there is no more air bubbles use something to suck out the extra coolant. Sometimes air will get trapped in the upper radiator hose so squeeze that
Had the same protocol issue with my buddies hemi swapped Jeep and he was missing some grounds for the engine. Once he put them on I was able to connect. Recently did a cam swap in my avalanche and didn’t have the protocol issue, even with some aftermarket accessories.
Idk why this popped up and played automatically, but damnit I watched the whole thing. I think UA-cam heard my talkin about ported heads with a customer just a few minutes before this video popped up.
I just did the shocks on my Chevy suburban that has 390,000 km and they were the stock shocks. I should’ve checked them sooner so much smoother and softer a ride. I almost didn’t recognize it.
One thing that I changed for exhaust is that I went with a cat back system from DNA motoring and it is a race exhaust. Somewhat quiet but has a nice lope to it then when you step on it it sounds amazing. I can make a video of it soon. I did a video of a muffler delete.
I have a bench harness I can let you use I won't need it for a month or two. It has the blue/green connection I don't know if you have the red. You just pop out the pcm hook it to the hp tuners and make any changes and flash. Have a on off for a ignition. Let me know I'll drop to your p.o. box.
Your the man! You inspire me to sit patiently in front of my phone and wait till you post a new video!!! Jk. I’m working on my own projects because of your videos. 😊
Congrats on getting it goin! What was your take on the surface shield spray you used ? I was hoping to see a bit of that and what you thought of it? Keep us posted on how the titanium exhaust bolts work out also !
Love the video. I've been watching your channel for a while now. Question, have you thought about tuning the transmission shift points? Hptuner has that option. I have an 03 GMC Denali and have done a lot of similar upgrades since watching, and the transmission mods have also improved performance. What would you recommend If you did something like that??
Hey Matt, love your channel by the way. I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with a 5.3 v 8. I have disk brakes front and back. Can I upgrade the back brakes like you did the front brakes to the newer calipers like you did with your front brakes ? is it a direct fit also ?
The oem one made it to 250k, so figured it was good enough. I used an aluminum one in my Camaro and it needed to be sanded down a few times until it fit.
Truck norris would be a great cam. I went with the tick stage 2 because I already had it, plus it’s getting a turbo and I wanted a smooth sleeper idle.
How has this 250k mile motor held up with the new power from the top end. I am getting ready to install an LS1 from a camaro that has 200k. It runs great, but the miles concern me, so I was trying to decide between a reseal like you did or a full rebuild.
Hey Matt big fan of the channel...... I'm having the same issue with my exhaust manifold stud. Im stuck with a broken stud....what did u use to drill out the stud??
I had a problem connecting my tahoe to hp tuners recently I ended up finding that even though my battery was fully charged it was dropping just enough to break communication. I tried a battery charger set to start and it still wouldn't do it but when I jumped it to a running vehicle I was able to connect.
Hey Matt, I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on the value of the GMT 800 Tahoe. They seem to have hit rock bottom. I have an '05 with 168K and it books out at 3.5K trade in, and 5.5K retail here in Washington State, whereas a Silverado of similar year and mileage is going for about 2.5X as much. $5,500 is a lot of vehicle and capability for the money. Maybe one of the best buys. I could not let my beloved Tahoe go for anywhere close to that. Do you see these going up in value, considering that it's getting harder to find an unmolested one with under 200K?
Here in Texas..Been offered 8-10 cash on my 07 silverado classic...nothing special on it besides the condition 8/10..very popular here..seen some for 14000..
Another common issue is the pump bolts, the bottom 4 have pressure behind them and if the o rings on the bolts get old they can leak. Common practice on rebuilds is to double seal the bolts with the o rings and a little bit of rtv
I have a 2006 Chevy suburban that needs the transmission rebuilt and I plan on doing some motor work in the future so I want to get a torque converter that is reliable and can handle more power. Do you have one you recommend or do you think the one you have will work?
I wouldn’t recommend it, I’m honestly not crazy about it. It’s pretty loose so it really needs some throttle to get the truck going. Depending on how low my mpg goes I may pull the trans to swap the stock one back in.
I'm here to support your decisions, like titanium bolts on the exhaust while leaving a raw block without paint.
With a 250k bottom end😂
@@lsxmatt 🤣
@@lsxmatt barely broken in👍

Pull the radio fuse; I have to pull mine every time I take my supercharged 2006 Tahoe to the tuners. Promise it works.
I’ve heard the cig lighter fuse can cause this as well. Atleast it does on 99-02 trucks
I’ve never clicked on a video so fast
Literally same 😂
Same

That’s for sure. 2020 Trailboss 416 stroker 800+HP Street/Daily searching for info on head porting my stock 6.2 or New??
My issue on my 2005 was the radio. I put the OEM radio back in and was able to tune
pulling the radio fuse when flashing also works around the aftermarket radio issue.
El oh el at the torque converter sitting. That truck cam from TSP? 😂😂😂😂
I like the converter joke.
On my 2004 Tahoe z71 I used a Volant 3285661 Cold Air Intake with Ram Air Scoop Combo Kit with powercore filter. Looks good easy to throw in.

I'm super happy Tahiti is alive again!! 😇
Damn they are out of stock on the titanium bolts lol. Just my luck. Great video and info man . Thanks 🙏
I’ve been tuning in since the first video on this Tahoe.
Had the same protocol issue with my buddies hemi swapped Jeep and he was missing some grounds for the engine. Once he put them on I was able to connect. Recently did a cam swap in my avalanche and didn’t have the protocol issue, even with some aftermarket accessories.
I have to pull my radio fuse, as well as my remote start fuses every time I tune, or data log. It’s a PITA, but I’ll bet that will get you going.
Idk why this popped up and played automatically, but damnit I watched the whole thing.
I think UA-cam heard my talkin about ported heads with a customer just a few minutes before this video popped up.
I've reused head gaskets out of desperation I coated them in copper coat and that motor ran forever I swear by that stuff
Excited to see the Trans Am return to the channel. More excited to see your Camaro back!!
I just did the shocks on my Chevy suburban that has 390,000 km and they were the stock shocks. I should’ve checked them sooner so much smoother and softer a ride. I almost didn’t recognize it.
Honestly makes me feel better. Doing same thing to my 02 with 245xxx
Wish I had the time and money to work on my 2002 Tahoe. It has so much potential
Great video as always can’t wait til the turbo goes on
I’m used to James Lube corner but I am very happy with Matt’s Lube corner

Wow Matt, getting Super close to that Play Button. I reckon end of February for sure. Another great video too.
The harbor freight vacuum filler for coolant actually works really good
Amazing very nice job. I am so happy to see engine running 😊fantastic. 👍🏻
How much were the head milled to and what pushrod did you end up using?

Thanks but I managed to get it connected. I had to pull the radio fuse and disconnect the remote start wire from the obd.
Awesome video.. great to see the tahoe still getting upgrades 👍
Bruh did the expired torque converter meme. Perfect execution

You need a Corsa Cat back exhaust.

I heard you’re not supposed to use copper spray on mls head gaskets
I have heard to use it. Lol.
Yea it’s worked for me in both situations. You don’t need it but I feel like it won’t hurt anything.

Surprised you didn't use the SacCity billet barbell
Q: did you put any thought into barbell type?.... aluminum, seal on both ends... why the plastic?
The oem one made it to 250k, so figured it was good enough. I used an aluminum one in my Camaro and it needed to be sanded down a few times until it fit.
good video! needs exhuast done on it badly!
Can't wait for this thing to hit the road. I own a 04 z71 I'm thinking of chuck Norris cam. Is this cam better?
Truck norris would be a great cam. I went with the tick stage 2 because I already had it, plus it’s getting a turbo and I wanted a smooth sleeper idle.
How are you liking the new coils vs torsion bars? Was it worth the upgrade?
I’d say if you want better handling or looking to level the truck then it’s definitely worth it.

I always weld a nut on them, they come right out then.

Not a Tahoe question but camaro lol what did you do for a driveshaft length on the trans am? I’m doing a ls3 mated to the 6L80 as well

Just lube
Imho the hp tuner issued is vats. Im willing to bet money on it
I figured it out, I had to pull the fuse for my radio and disconnect the remote start wire going to the obd port.
You should've put a billet barbell in there instead of a stock one. They dont cost much
